    I think is the first time i watch one of your videos....and i love the honesty and not the fact that you are not scared to share your opinion. Furhermore, i like that you argument why the game is not for you, and why you found it boring etc....
    You got a new sub!

      Many thanks my friend!! This is how I roll, if I love it I'll say so but if I don't, I'm going to tell it how it is and never buy into hype. 👍

    Great advice. I wish more reviewers gave you clues as to how you might find the game after a while. Thank you. I'm going to save my money.

    It’s a hard game to rate out of ten - I’m not sure I could. I’ve found it strangely compelling so far but it’s on the shelf again for now and I think it will scratch a certain itch every now and then and go back on the shelf in between. I backed it out of curiosity and big props need to be given for trying something new - the main audience I think is fans of games like Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley that likewise don’t really have any story and so less like Galzyr in that way. I’m not big on those video games but found Mythwind quietly compelling while I play it. Will be interesting to see if that can outlast me solving all the characters or not!

      It's going to appeal to some people for sure. I've never actually played Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley, just seen them in action.

      @@TheBrokenMeeple played animal crossing years ago and didn’t really get into it but lots of people loved it - and in terms of its approach to grinding and story it’s very similar

    Really glad they included a range of difficulties, can't imagine why I'd want to buy expansions to get a higher difficulty character.

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I can see that but maybe at least have more easier than harder.

    • @ChrisSmithSmooth
      @ChrisSmithSmooth 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheBrokenMeepleI'd think 2 easy/2 harder would be sensible (As then you can get a 2-player 'learning game' at the least).
      Though I think the only way to make my game group happy is them all being the same - Otherwise everyone would want the higher complexity characters - Whoever got the low one would almost certainly whine that it's boring even if it's equivalent to the others 😅
      I imagine they designed a few and chose the most fun ones, rather than going for easy/hard - If so that's probably the right decision.

    Based on your description there's two other games I feel would compare from your tops: Fields of Arle (which I love) and Outer Rim (which I sold fast). In my case, that creating head cannon from a chain of event cards in Outer Rim just didn't do anything for me especially with its watered down mechanisms. Fields of Arle though man is that a fun game to work out - no event cards necessary. I think trying to inject a bit of Outer Rim into a game like Fields of Arle would just make me feel I'm wasting time on those events. Especially if I'm not even to work towards a score. That's what Mythwind sounds like.

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Outer Rim is definitely going more for a narrative style approach though - it's closer to Galzyr where as Fields of Arle would be more akin to Mythwind. They both still have endings though.

    I've backed this like 3 years ago cause it looked like something different, I'm kind of sick of same old same old games, still haven't received my copy in Europe.
    I was expecting more story and theme, and now I'm kinda worried if it's really a mini euro game(s), rinse and repeat style.
    I did play Galzyr and I don't think the games are comparable, looks like your expectations got the best (worst) of you because you expected a chill time, cause Galzyr for me is "Reading: The Game", there's almost no game there as mechanics go.
    One of the best games of all time, Robinson Crusoe, has a 45 page rulebook, and it's written horribly, so I don't have a problem with big rulebooks, most rulebooks feel like a chore most of the time for me until I master the game.
    Maybe I'll leave a comment after I've actually played the game, 4/10 does seem a bit low, but who knows, but I'll go even lower...

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would play Robinson more often if it had a much better rulebook though. It hasn't hit the table in years. You won't get story and theme here, it's the Euro mini games through and through with a nice pleasant veneer over it.

    Doing the same thing over and over and over and over that interesting? Well that's essentially the cyclical nature of life. I think that's the lesson behind this board game, did you not notice the derivative nature of... Well everything within the spectrum of human experience lol. Do a then do b then do c cycle through alphabet rinse and repeat 😂 I enjoyed the content thanks for sharing your experience and opinions on it

    Nice review, as always. I was soo intrigued by this game when it was kickstarted. I am soo glad I passed on upgrading my 1$ pledge. It got overhyped by reviewers who didn't even like these kinds of games. But I sensed some boredom, repetition and not enough story. I hope the 7th Citadel - which is close to shipping - will solve my specific itches and if not, then we've got some more Sleeping Gods to tackle.

    I’ve been playing the farmer. The lack of money has sucked the first couple seasons, so you DEF need to buy equipment right away.
    I’ve started on skills right away instead of equipment… idk if that was the right play! So far it has been meh with the narrative.
    I do enjoy the mechanisms overall though.

    I love some more criticism is coming out on this game. (Amy and Maggie, ThinkerThemer, had some interesting things to say too)
    I want to love it, but if I'm being honest it's starting to sound less and less appealing.
    + they are doing a $1,- 'pre campaign' promotion. Pay $1 and get a 'free' expansion if you back the (upcoming reprint) campaign. Non-refundable. I don't like this new manipulation tactic/ trend.
    Thank you so much, I think I have a much more realistic view of the game now, instead of just 'cozy goodness'.

      @TheBrokenMeeple  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They criticised? Wow! But yeah, those practices don't sound good to me. I didn't even glance at the original KS.

    • @ronjapoes
      @ronjapoes 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Amy and Maggie highlighted the fact that the buildings aren't very thematic or immersive. The art (of the buildings) is great, but mechanically they all just give you a small bonus on an action. Bit of a let down after all the hard work building them.
      Maggie liked it and rated it well, but I personally got the feeling it didn't quite live up to her expectations.

    Luke, this feels like an unhappy port of a video game. I don't begrudge a sprawling 4X for having a big help menu, but on cardboard, I like games that have the nubile feel of a caress from Occam's razor. Asymmetric player powers? Great! 30 page CD insert rulebook? Get outta here!

    Wow do I not want to play that game.😅 What's the point in not having a goal? That's where all the fun is! Trying to reach the goal and finish the game and start over again. That's what I liked in Earthborne Rangers: Lots of freedom but still an overarching story with an end in sight. Glad I skipped this.

      I take it you're not a fan of games like Banished then? Most city builders play like this. It's supposed to be mostly just relax and build. Try to be as successful as you can be. As much as the rules were criticised in the video for being so numerous the gameplay itself is very simple. This is a sit and relax and switch off style game. And frankly there's not enough of them in the board game space, absolutely not many that are city builders either.

    • @dominikgarbauer6883
      @dominikgarbauer6883 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@prototypep4 Not necessarily. But I'd rather have that in a video game. I'm looking for something different in a boardgame.

    • @prototypep4
      @prototypep4 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dominikgarbauer6883 that's fine, I'm just saying it is hardly a criticism of this particular game. It's not trying to be a winnable or exciting game. It's just a basic city builder. One of the only ones I've seen actually work well on tabletop too.

    • @Rik77
      @Rik77 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@prototypep4but video games are able to provide satisfying positive instant feedback and atmosphere like sound effects, dynamic visuals, graphics etc. board games can't do that.
