I saw this fine band in Wash DC in late '79 at The Corcoran School of Art!! It was F'in Great. When they did '52 Girls' the Crowd went Nutz, dancing their asses off!! So much Fun!!💝
I love seeing Fred in an old dirty wife beater! This was before the band developed their fashion that became their trademark. This period was all about just getting onstage and playing the music.
The more I listen to this song, the more I love it! It's just great to see these early moments of the band. I was born in 1977 so watching these scenes without colors means a lot to me! I love to be 37, but wish I had been there as well. You can't have a cake and eat it too, though... Well, thanks a million for sharing! : )
She's not on a bass, that's not until later when she'd sometimes (seemingly) play Bass for "Nip It in the Bud." For this, Fred's on bass on the keyboard. Kate played the single note twangy guitar parts in this song, but you can't hear any of the guitar parts very well in this video.
@@101Volts I was at this "show" (in the basement of a club) and as I remember they all took turns playing a keyboard base....Like is Fred is playing in 52 girls......they just looked like they had memorized what keys to push when, to make it work...
Dang... this vid brings back memories. I watched these folks perform this tune at the Corcoran School of Art in D.C. back in 1978! Too Cool.🆒🆗🆙 Kate and Cindy Rule!! R.I.P. RICKY!!👼💥🏤💝
@@dantofthegenxfamily9529 That's not a bass guitar. Fred's on synth bass, you can just hardly hear Kate's guitar in this recording. Her part's the twangy one note at a time part you can hear in the album version. Ricky played rhythm for this song.
I saw her play guitar at the Santa Barbara bowl when they were promoting their cosmic thing album. I was 10, youngest person in the audience. They were on fire 🔥
I Love their albums but when I first saw them during this show and an earlier show locally in Atlanta, the sound was stripped down and minimal....the first song I ever saw the do was planet Claire and Fred opened the song playing a hand held toy piano to the mic on the Peter Gunn like intro...
@@DerEchteBold You can't hear any of the guitar parts very well here. In the album version, you can. Kate's parts are the twangy one note parts, Ricky's on rhythm on the bottom 3 strings.
If you just watched this video and did not know the date it was recorded it could have been taped twenty years before. They definitely had a very retro look and sound, and the old grainy b&w really feeds into that as well.
You're absolutely right about the vibe this video gives off! It might not have been shot in b+w, though. VHS eventually loses its color when tapes are copied enough times, and I'm pretty sure I used to have a tape of this show where the picture had a nasty puke-green tint to it, which is a phenomenon you tend to see when you've made a copy of a copy of a copy, etc. - typically the next duplication loses the color entirely.
I might be remembering wrong, though... it's been a solid 15 years since I stopped actively tape-trading, and I lost much of my collection in the interceding years. But I do believe this one started as color footage. Perhaps someone will post a low-generation copy on here someday.
see the black/white clips many are from Max's Kansas City raw and tough part of Punk Rock I say this as 59 Punk buten even the polished ones are great ☠️💣☠️.

@@stephenbullard9550That sounds awesome. Wish I could play this at my frat parties today. I would get a drink thrown at me probably. Music today is trash. Too serious, not goofy, and can barely dance to it
I was dancing right next to him at this show and we were dancing our sweaty asses off!...Like I have said before, it was an amazing thing to have this memory of seeing them that night and then it pops up on you tube many years later. I can see my college age (Ga Tech) silhouette dancing my ass off in a vintage tuxedo jacket (bought from the Tech shop) , skinny tie, straight leg blue jeans and high tops.
I grew up in this era it wasn't the 1950s,,,,, with that said did the person filming this use a antique camera? I know when I went and saw them I tried to bring in the old camera that had the explosion of gunpowder. To take a selfie with. Like they had in the 1800s. I didn't want to be upstaged by this video. Foiled again. Had the best time at their shows though Mesa Amphitheater circa 1980 something. Tons of drunk girls. Was like fishing with dynamite.
❤❤❤❤❤ So glad to have been into the B52's at age 12 after seeing them on Saturday Night Live ,and at their concerts for every album tour and most others near , I will never forget that Fox Theater Mesopotamia tour, Whammy Tour 83. ❤❤❤❤❤ #AthensGA

Such a cool sounding harmony with those two. One of the best of all time.👍
When I have my time machine.
Up and running.
I will have been at this show.
That was an INCREDIBLE Performance for such a Young Band.
Brilliant
☠️💣☠️
Fell in love with this song all over again. The guitar playing is outrageously good as are those girls' harmonies. And the drummer. Keith Strickland.
drummer- future guitarist!
Fred on keyboards and Kate on 🎸
One of my favorite songs of theirs!
And seeing them in this live, raw venue is amazing!!!
Thanks YT!🥹
Nothing beats seeing a great band in a small club

I love seeing Fred in an old dirty wife beater! This was before the band developed their fashion that became their trademark. This period was all about just getting onstage and playing the music.
I like when Fred calmly wipes his finger on his shirt at about 2:14 while still playing the keyboard !
The more I listen to this song, the more I love it! It's just great to see these early moments of the band. I was born in 1977 so watching these scenes without colors means a lot to me!

Didnt came out in europe, its a damn nice song ! I love it. This is a verry unique band and the 2 female voices brings magic !
Just love it ! Raw, real, good!
I agree I always love bands better when they first start out
Kate on bass and a very skinny Freddie in a "wife-beater" undershirt?!
The vocals were perfect.
She's not on a bass, that's not until later when she'd sometimes (seemingly) play Bass for "Nip It in the Bud." For this, Fred's on bass on the keyboard. Kate played the single note twangy guitar parts in this song, but you can't hear any of the guitar parts very well in this video.

WOW! The memories, never imagined how far into the future would this song live on. Saw them live several times. What a moment.
great memories money can't buy mate have fun

This is the absolute best song they ever made and a fucking riot to play on the drums! Thanks for however posters this!
In Britain we have a dull national anthem. Wishing Kate and Cindy were the principal girls of the UKaaaay!
