Well you have to disregard the first about 10 years of his career, before the gloves really came off. But oh my - did they ever come off. So let's give old Georgy boy 4 decades of speaking truth to power, with no or little regard to censorship, who got a mouth like a chickens asshole and so forth.

He was very brave for most of his career. He was talking about words you couldn't say 50 years ago. Actually, he wasn't just talking /about/ them (he made fun of talking about them in his routine), he listed them out directly. A major theme hidden in that routine (and this one, and many others like "soft language") was that many people, and US Americans in particular, foolishly tend to avoid confronting sensitive or difficult issues, and the results are largely to their own detriment.

Not too surprising as you were/are a theater kid, as were both of my children. Few activities better prepare a young person to speak confidently in public. George is basically right.. the whole Moses and 10 commandments story goes back about 5000 years (or 3000 bc). Modern humans however go back about 100,000 years, and the planet about 4.5 billion, and the universe 13 8 billion years. All of which makes that 5000 years seem a little... short.

  • @wtchtower
    @wtchtower 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

The 10 Commandments were extracted from the Ma'at's 42 Negative confessions. The only difference is all 42 Negative confessions starts with a word "I" as in "I AM". A 1st person declaring things he/she haven't done. i.e. I have not Stolen, I have not told lies, I have not assaulted anyone, etc. Unlike the 10 that are in a form of Command that opposes its doctrine on Free Will that is suppose to be the basic foundation of Religion. Love & Free Will
here is an amusing thing to think about why there are only 10. Cos if it were 42, Moses would be needing a push cart to carry all those Stone Tablets down a mountain.

You have to bare in mind that these "rules" were set up thousands of years ago when the world was a different place. Ie. "Do not commit adultery". There were no condoms or medicines to deal with STDs so from a health point of view sleeping around was a bad idea. However this rule still stands not only on moral grounds but because both men and women rely on each other for support especially when children are involved, and if someone cheats on their partner they may feel that they would rather be with the other person. At the end of the day, cooperation benefits everybody, common sense should be the ruling factor in all matters. I've just turned 60 & I'm tired of tip toeing around people. I don't like upsetting people but some of them just need to be slapped in the face with basic facts. ✌❤🇬🇧

Most of the Hebrew Bible (what Christians call the Old Testament) was written during the Babylonian captivity about 600 BC. The antiquity of the document is often greatly exaggerated. It doesn't go back 5000 years. Not even close. Egyptian religion does though.

@@scambammer6102 I agree. We are finding out more about ancient times every day. They just realised that the pyramids were there long before what we would consider the Egyptians and way before the pharaohs. It's now believed that there was technology way beyond our understanding which can explain the similarities between all religions from all over the world. I tend to keep an open mind on such matters and don't believe in guesses, just proof. ✌❤🇬🇧

We currently live in the "Age of Beliefs"... my brother coined this phrase when we were chatting one evening a few years back. Basically, the "Age of Beliefs" is where objective facts are (actual reality is) meaningless, it is all about what you believe and that is their "reality". It is plainly obvious pretty much everywhere in the US anymore and this is gaslighting of a massive scale and quite insidious.

"Age of Beliefs", what an interesting way to describe it. It is very fitting and very accurate. We Outside of the US see exactly that and can only scratch our heads and think WTF? The Us is not alone when it comes to this but it is a bit surprising to see it so prevalent in America.
Willful ignorance can be a dangerous thing and has destroyed many an empire. History has been a witness to that many many times. The biggest threat to America these days is America itself with willful ignorance leading the way. It truly is insidious . Here's looking at a better tomorrow where rational, skeptical and critical thinking rules the day. Cheers!

This was after dozens of revisions and edits from decades and decades of oral traditions (telephone game). You can think of commandments as a first edition of the constitution for primitive people written by church

He's talking about Judaism which is around 3500 years old. It definitely doesn't go back to the beginning of the universe .. lol.

There I fixed it. The whole point of even commenting was because it sounded ridiculous to say it was as old as the beginning of the universe

Moses supposedly lived around the 13th century BC so about 3.5 thousand years ago but the ten commandments may be a few centuries older either way you are looking at between 3 and 4 thousand years ago so he is a little out but its in the same ballpark. Other interesting figures for context, the universe is 13.4 billion years old, the Earth 4 billion years old, modern homosapiens around 250 thousand years old, complex civilization is around 10 thousand years old, the religion of Christianity is about 2 thousand years old and the country of England is just over a thousand years old.

Interestingly enough, Moses' origin story bears striking resemblance to the origin tale of Sargon of Akkad (aka Sargon the Great) who founded the Akkadian Empire. Here is an excerpt from Sargon's tale:
"My high priestess mother conceived me, in secret she bore me. She set me in a basket of rushes, with bitumen she sealed my lid. She cast me into the river which rose over me. The river bore me up and carried me to Akki, the drawer of water. Akki, the drawer of water, took me as his son and reared me. Akki, the drawer of water, appointed me as his gardener. While I was a gardener, Ishtar granted me her love, and for four and ... years I exercised kingship."
An origin story where the main protagonist is sent down a river in a basket as an infant? Now where have we heard that before?

The fact of the matter is, nobody really knows when Moses was around, or what his actual name was. Since there was no written mention of him until around 800BC, many hundreds of years after he was said to exist, who's to say what the real story was. And George was spot on when he said the list was meant to control people. Some people have always been smart, and could certainly come up with a strategy to control people without killing them. Especially if you can convince them there's some invisible entity that will bring the hammer down on them if they step out of line. Even if I don't see you doing wrong, God does, and he's going to get you!

The ten commandments are actually spell 125 out of the book of the Dead from Egyptian religion. look it up. and Moses would have been well taught in Egyptian religion he narrowed it down to 10. And it is bullshit because God doesn't need a messenger nor does he write books.

5,000 years ago is a bit of a stretch -- Judaism dates back about 3,000 years (and a bit), and evolved quite a bit over the time the Old Testament was written...

Trust and believe, the universe is much, much older than humanity. Humanity is much, much older than religion.
Every single religion that ever existed was basically a compilation of greatly embellished tales.
