  • It isn't over until they officially say "it's over." Hopefully this is the beginning of an amazing comeback story.

    Lack of characters doesn't necessarily limit the gacha option. For Shining Force it can easily be fitted to have "Gacha" styles based on their classes where you could create custom unit styles based on the "styles" you have available for each character much like Saga RE-Universe which has the gimmick of gacha pulling different character styles and being able to attach 1 ability from another style of the same name to said unit.
    In theory let's say you could have Bowie in different style of "Sword classes" or the mages in the different flavor of casters. It's fun to have reimagined character designs based on them fitting different class roles.

      @gurvmlk 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I mean, if I'm understanding you correctly, Shining Force 3 essentially did that. Giving the player customization options by having most job classes capable of wielding three different types of weapons, each with their own characteristics, and special attacks. Or having all the wizards only learn three spells naturally, with the fourth spell slot being reserved for spells provided by equipping certain rods. So those kinds of mechanics would be on-brand for Shining Force.

      Even Fire Emblem Heroes does alternates so we could do that too but Tyadran pointed out (I think I cut this part) that the animations are extremely high effort. They appear to be custom for each character which also implies a lot of work per character.

    They have made such an incredible game. This should definitely be on Nintendo Switch. making this exclusive to mobile devices would be the wrong thing to do.

    On the "Not a lot of characters for a gacha" you might need to consider that promotions can be "sold" separately (so Swordman Max is not Hero Max) at least doubling the number of character. Then add the event costumes (Valentines, Beach, Christmas...) some original content (see FF Brave Exvius as an example), villains joining the line up...
    EDIT: and yeah I'm against the very concept of a gacha game. Want me to point out Breath of Fire 6 as a good example of what NOT to do?

    • @gurvmlk
      @gurvmlk 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not to mention they could also incorporate the special promotions from Shining Force 2 to expand that even further. Do you want Wizard Kazin, or Sorcerer Kazin? Provide each as a separate character, and you've got two-for-one right there. Not to mention they could give those very same special promotions to the Shining Force 1, and Gaiden characters as well. Lowe as a Master Monk? Kashing as a Pegasus Knight? Sure, why not.

    One of the very few gacha games that may get some money from me if it ever releases.
    I sadly agree that this game may not release at all but a lack of characters is not a thing. Why not hand the player enemies like Kane or Gesph? Why not add Shining in the Darkness, Holy Arc and 3 in the same style? What about newer Shining titles? Would be some additional work BUT not imposible at all.
    So they gonna release Cosplay then?
    edit: Priston Tale war damals ok. Hab es eine weile gespielt damals und es gab einen Nachfolger.

    • @nihilshere
      @nihilshere  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Tya's point was just that the Shining series has far less characters than something like Fire Emblem so we'd have to do things differently.
      It'd be cool to have some Shining merch like that but I doubt it. The license is probably just for their game and they also probably want to keep the business ventures mostly separate.

    I have been waiting for shining force heroes of light and darkness for so long, my first console was a mega drive with built in games like shining Force 1and2 and i loved them sooo much. Seeing an amazing graphic sequel to shining force is my actual hope to come out haha I don't even mind if it is a gacha game, as long as it is my favourite one haha

    I'd disagree about the lack of characters. Shining Force 1 and 2 are 30 apiece. The other one I was familiar with growing up was the game gear version, Shining Force the Sword of Hajya...thats another 18. I'm sure there are more with the Sega CD games and Shining Force 3...easily over 100+ just for the playable characters. Start adding in NPCs and the bad guys throughout the games and you could get over 200 characters off source material I'm sure.
    Just for reference I play Langrisser mobile which is a similar genre and a gacha game. They release about 2 characters per month. If SF mobile was a similar gacha style they have enough characters for years. Another thing Langrisser has done is as the story line in the game expands, they simply create new characters within the mobile storyline. The langrisser mobile game is like its own game that happens to incorporate characters from the franchise...its not like it has to deal with a limited amount of source material then stop, and in reality, if the game lasted long enough to introduce hundreds of source characters, I think that would be considered a massive success among mobile games.

    • @nihilshere
      @nihilshere  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I was talking about comparatively. Fire Emblem Heroes launched with 100 characters in the pool so that'd be the whole cast of SF1 and 2 plus some. That doesn't leave you with a ton to add (outside variants) when Sega pays even less attention to games outside those 2. I still really hope it comes out at some point though, I'd definitely pay into it.

    • @randomyoutuber308
      @randomyoutuber308 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@nihilshere I never played FEH, so I couldn't speak to that, but like I referenced Langrisser, it launched in 2019 and launched with I think around 12 SSR units and another dozen or so lower tier units. It currently only has a little over 200 characters as it approaches being a 6 year old game...and probably about 1/3 of those characters are crossover characters or original characters.
      A little different because not based on an existing franchise, but I also started playing Sword of Convallaria recently as well. That launched with about 20 legendary characters, and maybe another 30 or so lower tier generic characters which I doubt anyone uses beyond the length of time it takes them to pull a handful of legendaries.
      They've both seem to follow the model of start with a small pool, and then run special banners for newly released characters first appearances, and run focus banners for increased odds of getting banner characters and put 2-3 characters on those banners so as the pool grows you can at least increase odds of getting specific characters. In either case I haven't minded the gacha systems, between pity systems and focus banners it generally isn't that hard to get what you want, you just have to be smart with resources if you aren't going to whale out on everything.

    Not a lot of characters?
    SF1: 30 playable Characters
    SF2: 30 playable Characters
    SF3: ~60 playable Characters
    SF Gaiden: 18 new playable characters
    SF Gaiden 2: 12 new playable characters
    SF Final Conflict: 18 new playable characters
    SF Resurrection of Dark Dragon: 3 new playable characters
    Shining Wisdom/Darkness/Holy Ark: 12 playable characters
    And that's not counting the villains, portrait NPCs (Eliot, anyone?), and as nchastan mentioned before, variants (seasonal, promotions, alternate/2nd promotion, swimsuit characters). And this is all before considering if they can get access to the IPs for SF Neo/EXA/Feather and Shining Soul 1 and 2/Hearts/Tears/Wind/Blade/Ark/Resonance.
    There's plenty of material for a gacha game to work with, but as Chris said, the Gacha market is pretty heavily saturated, who knows if they'd get the whales they need to be successful.

    • @nihilshere
      @nihilshere  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We don't know that most of those games are included for one. Even with all those though, that's still far less characters than our comparison FE Heroes has to work with. Heroes launched with 100 characters so that'd already be every character from SF1, 2, Gaiden and still a few more. That's the scale we're talking about.

      @@nihilsherefair, though like most gacha games, I imagine a lot of the common pulls are npc's and side characters. If you look at Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, the main line FF games only have around 4-12 payable characters each, and they've not only had a successfully run, they also have a 2nd gacha game (FFBE War of the Visions). Langisser probably only has 50ish playable commanders in the whole series, yet they have a long running gacha game. I'm pretty sure Shining Force has plenty of material to work with :)

      Feda's definitely a great alternative to Shining Force, although I personally prefer Shining Force just a little bit more. It's the little things, like the lack of character promotions, and a lot of the battles themselves being a bit less interesting (special clear objectives notwithstanding), that keeps my preference on Shining Force. Nevertheless, I absolutely recommend at least giving Feda a try to anybody who's even remotely a fan of Shining Force.

      @@orangeslash1667 I am hyped for Unicorn Overlord. For years, I've wanted to see a return to the Ogre Battle series, but a spiritual successor is just as good. The closest of which I've ever seen was Soul Nomad way back on the PS2, but that had some very distinct differences. I actually do have Unicorn Overlord on Switch (picked it up on day one), but haven't started it yet. I'm currently in the middle of a different game that I want to finish first, but Unicorn Overlord is definitely next on my list after that.
