Yep and it is twice as cheeki breeki. this would be awesome with 50 cal on truck with subwoofers in combat in the middle east cause then u feel like real crusader
This is no "war music" my friend, it's an old german song written by Walther von der Vogelweide about the feelings of an crusader reaching the promised land. Walther von der Vogelweide never saw this land or ever has been there.
It's about the Crusades - so it is a war song. The whole feel of this performance, the style and stance is suspiciously fascistic and bullying. So saying the bagpipe arrangement is fantastic and I love the song. But the German mittelalter-metal scene needs to be careful when it goes down this pathway.
Why should they be careful? Because you say this looks somehow fascistic? Pls. let us alone with your wokism. And by the way. The Muslims conquested palestine first. The Crusiders just tried to get it back.
This song is actually a ballad from the middle ages by Walther von der Vogelweide. I'm sure if you google Palaestinalied by him, you can find a modern English translation.
It is actually a Templar song, as they were marching towards the Holy Land which was invaded by the Muslims, also talks about Christ how He came here to sacrifice Himself for us to be saved, I'll send you translation
Now my life has gained its meaning since these sinful eyes behold the sacred land with meadows greening whose renown is often told. This was granted me from God: to see the land, the holy sod, which in human form He trod. Splendid lands of wealth and power, I’ve seen many, far and near, yet of all are you the flower. What a wonder happened here! That a maid a child should bear, Lord of all the angels fair, was not this a wonder rare? Here was He baptized, the Holy, that all people might be pure. Here He died, betrayed and lowly, that our bonds should not endure. Else our fate had been severe. Hail, O cross, thorns and spear! Heathens, woe! Your rage is clear. Out of pity for us, He suffered here the cruel parting. Out of pity for us He, the Almighty, allowed cursing. For us to escape misery, it is an immeasurable prodigy, more than any other prodigy. Then to hell the Son descended from the grave in which He lay, by the Father still attended, and the Spirit whom none may give a name: in one are three, an arrowshaft in unity. This did Abraham once see. When He there defeated Satan, ne’ er has kaiser battled so, He returned, our ways to straighten. Then the Jews had fear and woe: watch and stone were both in vain, He appeared in life again, whom their hands had struck and slain. Thereafter he walked this land, for forty days: then He ascended, from whence His Father had him on errand. His Spirit, may He protect us from the wicked, He at once sent back down. Holy is this very town, its name, is by God known. To this land, so He has spoken, shall a fearful judgment come. Widows’ bonds shall then be broken and the orphans’ foe be dumb, and the poor no longer cower under sad misuse of power. Woe to sinners in that hour! All the judgement of an earthly court, will give no man respite from accusation, for He will want at once to sort, for the Last Day annunciation: whoever leaves a single sin, unatoned here, how bereft he will stand facing Him, where he has neither surety nor kin. Christians, heathen, Jews, contending, claim it as a legacy. May God judge with grace unending through his blessed Trinity. Strife is heard on every hand: ours the only just demand, He will have us rule the land. Now do not ignore, what I have recited. My wish was to briefly explore, the discourse and to you I have presented, all the wonder that God has unfurled, upon man in this world, they began and ended here in this emerald.
@ringghul I think we might both be right. In Extremo without a doubt made their instruments themselves, but they are modelled after medieval German/Central European bagpipes, using a mixture of old paintings/drawings and archaeological findings as a blueprint for the instrument. This of course means they're likely not 100% according to original specs, but they're as close as is possible with our modern knowledge.

@Schuultz: Their bagpipes aren't medieval... they were invented round the 80s of the 20th centuary... important for their development were e.g. roman streisand, wim from corvus corax and a few other guys.... they all tried to invent an instrument that fitted their needs and in course of time we got our Marktsackpfeife in A-Dorian
In general, I asked, why not In Ekstrom comes on tour to our city? Everything. As for the paranoid dislike of Russian ... It is a privilege of the older generation.

Naja, das ist schon auch im eigentlichen Sinne ein Lied. Walther hat Lieder komponiert und das Palästinalied ist eines der wenigen Lieder Walthers dessen Text und vor allem Melodie in vollem Umfang erhalten ist.
First of all, a Christian does not tell someone to kill themselves. Secondly, the Templars sold Byzantium to the Seljuks, as well as the Kingdom of Cilicia. They even resorted to heterosexuality, and worshiped Mary, mother of Jesus as Goddess. That is heresy. The true Knights, are the Knights Hospitaller, the Teutons murdered Slavs for being "savages."
a song made hundreds of years ago is still played by bands today
more like a thousand.
ArthaxtaDaVince777 the original poem was written in the early 1200s, around the time of the start of the 5th crusade
Yep and it is twice as cheeki breeki. this would be awesome with 50 cal on truck with subwoofers in combat in the middle east cause then u feel like real crusader

Thanks @ Walter von der Vogelweide
Masterpiece! One of the most beautiful songs of middle ages, performed by one of the best(if not the best) medieval metal bands!
Gandalf930 medieval metal band yes, not anymore now. I don’t know what happened to this band after 2010 but it has nothing same now
Das Lied ist einfach geil und In Extremo auch! Weiter so Jungs! Ein Fan aus Brasilien.
LOL this is really fun! i was studying this song for a music history class and came across this rendition. pretty sweet.

Walther von der Vogelweide rockt bis heute!
