That bale rack extension will help move a bit more straw at a time. Got quieter around here yesterday finally. Probably let the cows back out to a pasture this afternoon.
Good morning, Mr and Mrs Piper Doug. I like your conventions about the cattle. Its a downer when your favourites or best stock come to their end. It's all part of the business, though. It's a lot easier to get rid of the dangerous ones. 👍
Hey bud, Thanks, yeah it does suck but like you say it's part of why we do it and unlike non farm folk are lead to believe we respect our animals enough to do right by them for both our betterment. funny tho removing cranky ones helps the rest relax i find
Good morning Chad. Is the ground frozen up there? I'm afraid it will be awhile before it freezes here..... This weather has me a little flustered. It has been kinda warm but it seems like the corn isn't drying down.
Nice terrain and a beautiful river. First Nation on your side Indigenous down here. My native friends say Anishinaabe. Nice when the weaklings finally calm down. Sad to ship reliable old cows but good to cash out before bury. Our cow call is same😅.
Extension looks good to me, as long as the lengthwise tubing is heavy enough, the bracing should be more than enough. Dad always yelled "ComeBoss", but over the years, the generations that came to it are all gone. Now it's "Come on Ladies" or "Come on girls".. biggest thing is they just follow the bike..
Good morning Doug. Was the floor stripped off the flatbed when you got it? I just replaced the cross members above the jacks on a van trailer. That trailer hasn't got many winter miles on it so it wasn't too bad. Patching up trailers has been one of the things that has been my job at work somethings sure can be rough on them. I had to fix a water bowl yesterday at a herford farm yesterday..... they sure made me miss my old herford bull Bryan. Hes one of the handful that I truly miss. Maybe thats why I can't even consider another herford bull, I want to get a red angus this time.
@@burrridgefarms my black steers were about 4 pounds lighter than my red steers on two big groups on Tuesday, they brought $0.08 a pd more than the reds. Once you go black, you never go back. Lol. Think I’m done buying red angus bulls and I’ll focus more on the black angus. Happens every year it seems. The temperament on the red angus seems to be a little better though on average. Quieter for sure.
@ I envy you guys to an extent for that ability. We can background cattle up here, but very inefficient in our temperature extremes to finish them out. That’s why most finishing lots are in southern Alberta. The weather is better for it and it’s a drier climate there than up in the forest here. Nobody has tried a barn up here to finish cattle though at a large scale.
@chadtosh6831 dryer is the key!! The mud is killer for cattle in general. Literally sucks the heat out of them. For us, cold and dry, even with a foot of snow, they eat less and look better. 40° (5°c) and wet, they eat twice the hay as -20°c...
The over A would be good as long as you don't need a flat bed. It could also be sleeved in the upright and bolted on outer ends. I think I've mentioned before that when we had a dangerous cow, we put her away as people to get serious injury or worse. Cattle calls. I had visions of herds from all around heading your way lol
This trailer is only for bales so it would be permanent, we have good cow prices so id far rather move a nutter away n start a new heifer with programming, haha, yeah never thought of calling everyone elses, just as well i dont use the pipes then eh?
@piperdoug428 I used to have a bull horn in the mini pickup (as in peep peep) which sounded like a cow/bull when operated. A sort of adjustable diaphragmed fog horn. I used it when feeding cattle away from the farm. I'd expect they'd come for any sound associated with feed. I know when Carolyn says dinners out, I'm there in a flash 😂

Thanks bud, yeah day 3 is usually when you get the last wee squeaks, we'll transfer mommas back out onto grass day 4

For selling calves at auction that is very true... I intend on feeding mine out and with them going straight to the packer it doesn't matter.
