  • Travelers in Time: France (Episode 03) La Forge de Vulcain / L’aciérie de Gandrange
In this video, we go to an extinct world. We explore the remains of a colossal steel mill where no furnace is blasting anymore, and no iron is melting. In the 1970s, this was a major steelworks in France - but first the economy failed, then politics. A price has been paid though, but solely by the only losers of this crisis: the workers, without a job anymore, deprived of their second home and poisoned by asbestos. This video is an obituary. We travel back to a time before this became the extinct world it is today. #urbex #abandonedplaces #bwturbex
For this video, we teamed up with @industry_explorer who documents the forgotten industrial heritage of France ► / industry_explorer

The part of this vid where you bring back the "life" of this mill with fire in buckets, and fire on wheels with that awesome music... awesomness. Watched that part 3 times. It is mind blowing to see such a place, to think man can build such colossal places. My father worked away from home in a steel mill after he left the coal mines. I had a glimpse of were he was those weeks he was gone from us through this excellent documentary. It is always wonderful to see the places and history you share.🖤

Thank you so much for this splendid video. From the Narration, the History lesson, the Video artistry to the choices of Music. Yet another fine example of supreme Documentary making. Splitting the History into the 5 acts is pure genius! Here in England, one of my Uncles worked in a near by steelworks, which also had its problems too, then subsequently closed leaving hundreds of workers loosing there livelihoods in the blink of an eye. Sadly my Uncle took his own life due to feeling his self worth had been stripped from him. He had worked so hard in the industry all his life, just like his generations before him. It all brings it home how man can build such enormous complex structures, but yet when times get hard or wrong decisions are made, then lives are shattered and Buildings just left behind in the aftermath. But! Thankfully we have BWT to bring us such breathtaking videos to show us all what we rarely get a chance to see. I'm so proud to be a Patreon supporter of these brilliantly talented people. Thank you for all you do.

TH-cam randomly recommended this channel some time ago and I was so grateful that I didn't ignore it. Since then I've been binge-watching your videos and I was completely hooked. The cinematography, video editing, and narration in each video were so beautifully done. Not to mention Till's voiceover! Has he ever considered making ASMR videos? 😂 Anyways, this video is terrific. Can't wait to see more of your adventures!
p.s. I work in a hospital and we still use that "old" pneumatic tube system to transfer blood samples. Cool findings!

With your unique and impeccable style, cinematography, editing, and musical choices…you have created a fitting tribute to the many lives that were intricately bound into the story of this place. You frame perfect windows into an earlier time, fraught with mood provoking contrasts and the detritus of a period where men battled the elements to create materials to build a future very different from the past. Sadly, once again, money for the owners triumphed over the hard work and pride of these men, forced to find new ways to provide for their families. You never disappoint, and always inform…thank you for quality content, and stay safe out there.🖤🇨🇦

Since this place was closed in part due to asbestos, I’m glad to see you wearing masks and respirators when in enclosed places. Like offices and control rooms.
This place is massive! I loved the contrast between the molds and mosses and the natural decay.
In terms of the politicians failing this plant and it’s people., Mr Sarkozy was just convicted and sentenced for crimes of corruption and worse while in office. No surprise he couldn’t be trusted here.
Great exploration. Having the stories and the before images added a lot, so thanks to your new French colleague.

I love these industrial sites for their richness in patterns and colors brought by the decay. And I'm also a fan of big machines and structures.
But I also feel like this video could have been 15-20 minutes longer by adding more continuous shots of exploring with live narration for a more immersive experience in addition to the marvelous 'money shots', which by the way I would say your videos not only have the highest density but also highest quality of among the urbex channels I follow - please keep that part up!
I dont have a problem with long videos at all. If I like what I see, it can be as long as it needs to be to show as much as possible. But I reckon I'm not exactly part of the mainstream on TH-cam with that attitude these days. I suppose you know more about the viewing habits given the view statistics youtube provides.
But still, the more the merrier as far as I am concerned! 🤩

It does take a team to do great work and it is righteous to acknowledge others that contribute to making all these great episodes meaningful. What really stands out is the research and background your team provides to convey a complete and full story for the viewers. Wow, the sheer size of this place. Thank you for also appreciating the ordinary things. Rust, moss, a sign, someone's handwriting. It's very immersive. 🖤

In 2014, I was in Esch-sur-Alzette in a coal-fired power plant. That's not far at all from the steelworks. In other parts of the complex, of which only a small part is still standing, scenes were shot for "Crimson Rivers: Angels of the Apocalypse
    ", among others.
To see such industrial colossi for yourself is very impressive. Unfortunately, I took far too few photos.
The power plant was demolished by 2019.
