The whole idea of not being able to support these kinds of innovative and interesting watches but still wanting them to exist and succeed is something that really resonated with me. Thank you for highlighting De Bethune's incredible work!
the noon at 12 intuitively makes sense to everyone because this way, the gmt hand follows the path of the sun in the sky. there very few watches that have it this way but this is the most intuitive way of heaving it and the best way to use it as an am/pm indicator.
The Patek 5224R, which has a 24-hour dial for both home and local time, also has noon at the top of the dial. I agree that it’s a very intuitive placement and I like seeing it in this DB. Thanks for sharing it with us!
What a great look. You know I'm not usually taken by these weird dial designs, but this one is out there yet very tailored and sophisticated without a lot of unnecessary crap added just because they can. Great implementation of the GMT function. If I had a spare $120,000, I still wouldn't buy it, but I'd probably pay off my mortgage.
Great Scott that is just…..many Scott’s of greatness. The dial, the blueness, the curves, the Star Trekitude and the ball! Good heavens the ball!!! I do love what it do do.😏
Gorgeous! For some reason it reminds me of the Frederique Constant Worldtimer a bit, which also has a lot going on in terms of depth in the dial. Bit of a different price range though 😉 Great video, thanks!
That’s crazy, I was just thinking about this brand this morning questioning if anyone cared about them anymore with the rise of other super high horology taking the spotlight. So thanks for showing me people DO still care about this brand!
It's fun to share the same appreciation, but even better to share the enthusiasm even if it's something not obtainable because that doesn't matter. What's beautiful this beautiful, no matter the cost and you can't always have everything beautiful
Yep, De Bethune is pure concentrated high horology. I wish I could see one in the metal. Their earlier pieces are simply gorgeous, but the new ones are very cool too. It's also interesting how their designs changed over the years but you can still see the common design DNA. Tim Mosso reviewed a bunch of their watches.
The 50mm lug-to-lug means this is a hard no on my hand-made, artisan-inspired, bespoke, 6.75-inch wrist. It’s nothing to do with the price. It really hasn’t. Honestly. I watched to the end, just to make sure.
I love the correlation between really, really expensive watches having often unpronounceable names. First the sheer cost spills out of your mouth and you end up dribbling in to your hand. Then the name hits you like a tongue twister - wow, double whammy.
The fact that my wrist hair would sprout obscenely through the lugs would put me off it. No, uh, no other reason. But that alone puts it out my consideration. Ahem.
Why is it that so many haute pieces look like town center clocks from the Renaissance era? Do you pair them with a neck ruff and powdered wig? Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the workmanship but the aesthetic does nothing for me. If I ever spend more than say $20k on a watch - I know the featured watch costs so, so much more - it’ll be on a Ressence or something with a similarly modern look.
I like these but the finishing is very sub par at the price point. They aren’t the value buy they used to be before watchbox invested in them. Mb&f or gauthier are good alternatives.
I really don't like De Bethune's watches. I'd like to. That said, I respect the hell out of their watchmaking and the team they have going over there. I've watched interviews with the two founders and walkthroughs of their manufacture and I really like their attitudes and philosophy. Its just the end products look hideous, _to me._ Subjectively. Let me repeat for the other commentors: subjectively. I think they're ugly, and very confused, a mish-mash of clashing elements finished to the highest degree. Even the movements look awful to me (subjectively). I wish they would create a sub-brand of the same quality but making more traditional, actually attractive, watches. Until then I'll admire them with a 10ft pole.
In a watch like this, what gives the watch maker or producer the idea to charge $120k?😂. I mean why that specific figure? Why not $80k or $150k? How do they determine that to be a fair price?
They make a lot less watches per year than Lange and constantly invent new balance springs and balance wheels. Movement finish is not as baroque as with Lange but still top notch. Their margins are probably still super high but the above has to be kept in mind.
42mm is an appropriate size for a large-ish dive watch, not a dress watch. And over 13mm for a manual wind movement is embarrassingly shoddy. The price is also too big. Design is meh.
You are pronouncing 'depth' incorrectly..... Its pronounced 'dept'.... The 12 at the top of the GMT just makes more sense intuitively, as thats where the sun would be at noon if you are standing on the pinion. The rotating blue/gold GMT ball.... GMB..... is a really nice touch and worth about the first $100,000 of the asking price.
Absolutely extraordinary. You just have to admire that daring but still so tasteful aesthetic. And then paired with the technical brilliance...*chefs kiss* Grail-material🤌🏻
When the little ball flipped colors, it got me. It got me in the heart.

🫡 I’m doing my part

I totally agree. I guess I could rotate my Rolex GMT bezel and do it myself. But not with my Explorer 2.

But the 24hr dial isn't intuitive for daily use
I love how your reviews cover such a varied price range
Simply exceptionelle. Will buy one in the future and really looking forward to it for the next 10 years.
Holy crap that thing is gorgeous. Your 7" wrist that is...
Wife, is that you?
Another great production 👏

This piece is insane.
The watch is De BeCaca, but your reviews are worth 120000$! youre terrific dude, Happy New Year!
Not gonna lie, this watch is super nice looking 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Absurd watch...im mostly here to hear you talk 🎉

I wish watches like these were more affordable but ofcourse i understand the price
Yeah, that thing is stunning.
The watch is truly beautiful

Damn, that watch kinda looks amazing on the wrist
*gets closer to the mic and whispers*
"All the way to the end"
Would really love you to view and review Baume and Mercier Riviera 39 mil. Much love!❤️
modern Breguet feels. great piece, cheers.
Once you experience a watch face with a trough and a ball, troughless, no ball watches are never quite the same.
Only 120k!?! I'll take one for the weekdays and one for the weekend.
Do they offer Affirm payment plans? Asking for a friend.
Beneath a Sea of Starry Variuses. gorgeous
We’re all here together and the watch is fine.
What a baller watch!
Dang, that is hotter than a 2 dollar pistol! 😲
Beautiful 🔥
The fact that my wrist hair would sprout obscenely through the lugs would put me off it. No, uh, no other reason. But that alone puts it out my consideration. Ahem.
Did you get paid by the brand for this review?
Wow indeed.
What a bargain 👏
I like your favourite sport. Good one.
Greenwich mean ball….I lol’d
Love it
Just wow.
"...all the way to the end."
You win.

I appreciate what they do but for the price, there are just too many superior alternatives imo
You mean like a Patek 5821?
There are superior alternatives at half the price
De Bethune make some of my favorite watches that I will never buy.

fuck it, we ball
It’s very big
a masterpiece... made for the rich.
Aren’t they always? My videos being exceptions, of course.
just some mild feedback, but the music in the beginning of your vids is too loud for me
this looks great on your .000096004 US nmi wrist...when are you getting one for yourself? Do it. Do it. Do it.

If you have to pinpoint the exact parts of this watch that make it exactly worth its price point, this watch is not for you.
@ so basically, it’s for rich people to get ripped off?🤣
I've impeccable taste, you say?
No watch should cost that much, this is not even Lange levels, what in the world of dollars is this price point??
They make a lot less watches per year than Lange and constantly invent new balance springs and balance wheels. Movement finish is not as baroque as with Lange but still top notch. Their margins are probably still super high but the above has to be kept in mind.
It's higher than ALS undoubtedly...
@ Nope!!!

Doesn't deserve the price
agreed
INCREDIBLE watch, but doo doo ....... price😅 cheers

For the love of… please stop rotating that watch around on the sapphire crystal face down, on the table! Happy new year, though.
Absolutely hideous watch
All right, first of all, it’s not MerSAYdeez.
It’s MehrtSEHdess.
Mersaydeez nuts
@ ha ha
