Love the ability to truly make a watch your own. I had an idea but don't think anybody has tried it yet: replacement chapter rings / internal bezels for the Seiko Alpinist GMT / NMK951 (if you like to DIY). I really dig the watch but I don't personally find much utility in the compass bezel. I'd much prefer a rotating 24 hour chapter ring to track an additional time zone, sort of like how the Traska Venturer GMT works.
You've given a true tool watch some fashion sense. The original is purposeful and yours is fanciful. I'd be interested as I'm sure you are as to how wide this mod changes the demographic of the Marathon buyer.
Looks like a great product.... congrats. I suggest you next introduce a series of swappable bezels and inserts for the Casio Duro. Your bracelets are so perfect for that watch, and they are so fun and easy to collect multiples of. I think you'd find an eager market. I suggest a Submariner style bezel with sharply machined scalloped edge crenellations. Maybe match it with a coin edge bezel? And of course, a series of inserts as well. Top it all off with a line of sapphire replacement crystals, and you'll become the Duro go-to source!
Yeah I like a little easy modding. Like getting steel shrouds for my Seiko Arnie. Got a brushed stainless and a solid black steel. Really changes the look and ups the percieved quality.
The bracelet and bezel haven't quite been to my tastes, but I'm glad you're putting some 3rd party stuff out there for the GSAR. It's my personal favorite watch. I've had it on a gray Isofrane, that I think I bought from you, for over a year now, and I've worn it most days.
Don’t own this watch but it’s a great product. Made even better by not being proprietary. Whey reinvent the wheel when there’s a plethora of Seiko parts available.
This is a great idea. I need to practice removing bezels off my TSAR before I commit. I would love to find a full white lume brushed ceramic for my Polar model. The knurling was a good choice. I still need to get those Cocktail Time bracelet surveys to you.
Wow, this is a great idea! Now you need to make a 12-hour Navigator style bezel insert that fits into this system. This is the black 12-hour bezel with minute markings to 20 mins. I have seen pictures of GSAR watches with this style bezel but it doesn't look like Marathon sells them any more and this style of insert is almost impossible to find. Now, if you made it fully lumed you would have something very unique!
I received mine over a week ago, and it’s awesome!! A case back knife is the easiest way, I was intimidated at first because I did this once on a Seiko Turtle which was much more difficult . Pops right off and pops back on just as easy. I would love to leave a review with a pic, but I don’t see an option.
Great Job Mr Engineer. The Machined Look on the bezel and crown are much more relevant anf coherent now with the new bezel; also the design seems much more integrated.
I'll see if i can remove the original bezel with my nylon squeezy tool first. My GSAR doesn't have enough roadwear for me to feel confident using a metal blade.
I’ve been pretty much over the same old same old diver bezels for quite a while, but I do like to use my watches to time things. Any plans Marc to make a couple countdown bezel inserts? You did it at least once for the Lume Shot collab. Nobody seems to make them, you could corner the market 😀
I don't have a Marathon, but I'm just about ready to order your bezel for my Orient Ray II. Just trying to find the right insert, and I think I have it now.
Does it make the watch a little thinner or is that an optical illusion? I know the old bezel would have to have been proud of the crystal for that to be possible.
Cool sweater!:) Only, the equation should not have said the it was equal to Phi, just a+b/a=a/b, and let it be an easter egg. Of course, given the artwork, it wouldn't have been all that difficult to figure
Speaking of mods I'd love to get a big crown my Bridgehampton Chronograph. The watch is fantastic overall but the one fault with it is the small crown makes it difficult to wind the watch and it's hard to get my fingernail behind it to pull the crown to set the time.
This looks fantastic! Nice work! Is the bezel thinner (not as tall) compared to the standard GSAR bezel? The over the top chunkiness was the main thing stopping me from buying a GSAR previously. Also will this affect water resistance rating at all?
@@islandwatch Well, I'd just answer back with a question: how are those Duro bracelets moving for you? I bought one, and people are getting 30-40 bucks for just the inserts online. I am genuinely not qualified to offer advice to the Watch-enthusiast Whisperer, but after swapping out the strap for an Islander "BRAC", slapping in a sapphire crystal with red-AR and filling the sucker with oil, what are we supposed to do - buy a watch that costs more than 50 bucks to start with? Come on man get with the program.

Now…. it would be so clutch if you guys would/could retrofit a La Joux-Perret G100 movement into the OSAR. OR convince them to do it? Love the watch, not a big fan of the Sellita movement (& 38 hrs PR).
You didn't really show it, but don't bezel inserts require an application of glue? A dual sided sticky film bezel insert cut just for the bezel would be a handy product imo . Put it between the bezel and the insert.
The. hole. Your background in engineering/serviceability is shining through. Well done Marc!
Thanks!!! 😊
Amazing idea. Constant innovation from Island Watches.
Thank you, kindly.
What a cool idea! That stainless steel is definitely the way. The knurling as well looks so sharp. Better than the original!
Marathon doesn't even float my particular boat, but I'm floored by what you've done here, Marc - this is a mod that truly enhances.
That looks awesome! And I have to agree the stainless steel one especially looks great!

Marc, Thanks for showing how to replace the bezel great stuff.
Glad to be of help!
Marc. You and your crew never cease to amaze me. You are amazing thanks for all that you do. 👌😃
Guess there’s nothing preventing me from getting a Marathon now (except the disposable income)
I hear that!
I would really love bezel mods for Citizen Promaster BN0150! Your bracelets for the watch are excellent!
Very nice! Like your knurled replacement bezel .
Mark you just created a new addition mod legend. 🎉

This is great! We need aftermarket fitted rubber straps for Doxa!!
Noted
@@islandwatchI second this. I want a 300T strap but refuse to pay $440 for the OEM one
Consult a Chinese company they will make one for you.
This is a great idea.
Don’t own this watch but it’s a great product. Made even better by not being proprietary. Whey reinvent the wheel when there’s a plethora of Seiko parts available.
Exactly 💯
Great idea, I think the bezel is an improvement.

I still need to get those Cocktail Time bracelet surveys to you.

Glad you like it!
Mark please Let me know if you offer service to swiss made watches. Love your channel been a follower for at least the past 4 years.
Although I doubt I will ever own a Marathon, so freakin' outstanding, Marc! "The watches Marathon should have made."

Nice! Customizable is always good.
Honesty really like the stock bezel, but may mod my TSAR later.
Thanks Marc
Glad you enjoyed it!
As the first person to machine down a SKX insert to fit the GSAR bezel, I say this is a step in the right direction.
This is genius! I love the jumbo with the day date, just wish they made a day date version in a smaller case.
Great idea and product.
I definitely prefer the knurled to the original style.
Matches better.

We are working on that. There was a hiccup
How is the bezel action after the swap?
What did you use to hold the bezel insert in place within the new bezel?
This is wonderful. Do your Islander models feature the hole also?
Now if only you could perfect a perfect alignment tool for bezel inserts.
Funny because I might pick up a Marathon next. Thanks Mark!
Perfect timing!
Is the outer diameter of the new bezel exactly the same as the old one? Looks great!
Great Job Mr Engineer. The Machined Look on the bezel and crown are much more relevant anf coherent now with the new bezel; also the design seems much more integrated.
Thanks so much!
Looks great.
I would like to see a similar Mod for Squale 1521.
😊
I'll see if i can remove the original bezel with my nylon squeezy tool first. My GSAR doesn't have enough roadwear for me to feel confident using a metal blade.
Fantastic you are the man Wheels Up my friend Be well and Big blessings 👍
thank you!
Any plans on restocking the brookville with fresh colors?
Yes.
Pretty Nifty engineering...
Nice

Great product Mark! Question, will a bezel removal tool like that work on Islander Northport, Bayport, Calabro etc?
So to change the bezel insert I’ll need to buy a pokey stick tool?
BRILLIANT!! 🍻
Thanks!
Well now i have another excuse to why I need a GSAR. That SS bezel looks amazing!
Thanks, it sure does!
that is awesome
Nice!👍
Thanks!
Sticky tape? Will the insert stay with that method?
yes, thats what most watches use
Does it reduce/increase the watch height or bezel overhang?
Too cool!
Mark, this is so cool but where can I get that hoodie? Super Cool!
Nice!
Thanks!
Does it make the watch a little thinner or is that an optical illusion?
I know the old bezel would have to have been proud of the crystal for that to be possible.

watch the video
@ I watched it slick! Just wanted to know if it’s right or loose (play)
Any plans to make a lume bezel insert with minute markers for Seiko 5 SRPK29K1 or will the SKX013 bezels fit it..?
WHAT A GREAT PRODUCT!!!! I'm in on this. I think my GSAR with a Pepsi bezel insert would look great.
It sure would!
@@islandwatch Yeah only problem is I can't get the stock bezel to come off. So I'm screwed.
Cool sweater!:) Only, the equation should not have said the it was equal to Phi, just a+b/a=a/b, and let it be an easter egg. Of course, given the artwork, it wouldn't have been all that difficult to figure
l love my GP Marathon but, the GSAR l tried on was super chunky!! Bought a Tissot Seastar instead!
What is the Bezel dimensions? 41 or 42?
Speaking of mods I'd love to get a big crown my Bridgehampton Chronograph.
The watch is fantastic overall but the one fault with it is the small crown makes it difficult to wind the watch and it's hard to get my fingernail behind it to pull the crown to set the time.
Okay, noted.
@islandwatch Thanks!
Will you eventually make 3rd party parts for the MSAR as well?
I wonder if you could do the same thing, but with the Squale 1521? 🤔
Now we need a bracelet for the steel navigator please!!!
Haven't gone there yet.
Very Clever...
Well done Mark.
Glad you enjoyed it
Very well thought out accessory.
👍🏻

Make some in black for the two-tone tactical look.
really? I wouldn't think there'd be much interest.
@ I’ve always loved that look. Seiko has done it a lot with the Turtles.
Winner winner chicken dinner 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
🤤😋
Shame you arent doing anything for the 36mm versions.
Now do it for the glycine combat sub... 😀

sure would!

Re: “…will not fit your midsize…”, D’oh! Oh well.
Who thought military watches could also be good fun ?
:)
it's now a "Starbucks-athon"? or a "Kermit-athon"?
😂
This guy is babbling. I stopped watching at 6 min. What was the point of this vid? I swear he's drunk. Too many useless words.
Ha! You watched all but 52 seconds of it.
Nice!
