"Karate" premiered at Yokohama Arena on December 12, 2015. Directed by Daisuke Ninomiya, the music video for "Karate" was released on 18 March 2016.
Moa Metal explained that the lyrics are about never giving up and always moving forward, no matter what difficulties need to be endured. Furthermore, Yui Metal described how the dance moves were made to help express the message of the song, as most of the lyrics were in Japanese.
Moa Metal expressed that "Karate" is her favorite song in the 2nd album, explaining how "karate has a courtesy: "Start with a bow and end with a bow." This is something important we value in our lives, because we never forget courtesy and a feeling of gratitude wherever we go."
Su Metal described the white figures in the video as representing their former selves, expressing the desire to break down barriers by fighting themselves to move forward. Moa Metal added that "karate is obviously a form of martial arts that originated from Japan, so it’s something that she’s very proud of that they are now representing this culture that came from Japan through their music, and it’s a way for more people outside of Japan also to learn what karate is all about."
    For a live 2016 version.

Nice reaction again & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。I am happy to see you get excited by this song. As tiaopiak and meime meime commented below, I strongly recommend you to watch a live version "BABYMETAL-KARATE (live UK Download 2016)" although you do not need to upload another reaction video to the same song. The live performance will definitely make you love this song more. You will find the link to that live video in tiaopiak's 2nd (newer) comment.

Nice reaction!! Thank you again for featuring BM.
I think you're very right to watch the music video first. However, live shows are what BABYMETAL is really about, so please watch this one too. It's a rainy download fes.
    - BABYMETAL-KARATE (live UK Download 2016)
Many of BABYMETAL's songs, especially the early ones, are about the feelings of a teenager. As you may have noticed, the person these girls were fighting was themselves. Karate is a song about fighting with myself.
And when you see that she is helping her friends who are falling down on the way, it is likely that she is also encouraging them.
SUMETAL(vocal&dance) inspires everyone with her powerful and clear voice and her charisma.
YUIMETAL(dance&scream) & MOAMETAL(dance&scream) energize everyone with their fierce dancing, shouting and unparalleled cuteness.
The audience then cheers for BABYMETAL with chants and interludes as they respond.
One for All. All for One. We are The One!! It's the spirit of "The One."
Even if tears spill from our eyes, let's confront it!
Even if we get sad and unable to stand up.
Even if our spirits are broken, let's confront it!
    Seiya soiya, let's fight on
Incidentally,セイヤ(Seiya) and ソイヤ(Soiya) are karate shouts. 押忍(osu) is a 武道(Budo) greeting and response.
All of BABYMETAL's songs are quite different and all of them are representative of their music. I hope you enjoy the variety of songs (all of them if possible).
All of the songs are great, but if I had to recommend them, the following songs might be a good place to start.
    - BABYMETAL - いいね!- Iine! (OFFICIAL)
    - BABYMETAL - ド・キ・ド・キ☆モーニング - Doki Doki☆Morning (OFFICIAL)
    - BABYMETAL - メギツネ - MEGITSUNE (OFFICIAL)
    - BABYMETAL - Road of Resistance - Live in Japan (OFFICIAL)
    - BABYMETAL - Ijime,Dame,Zettai - Live at Sonisphere 2014,UK (OFFICIAL)
I hope you continue to enjoy your BABYMETAL.
    Put your Kitsune🦊 up!

I'm really enjoying these reactions. I haven't succeeded in getting any of my friends to fall into the Babymetal foxhole, so watching someone else introduce a friend to their music is really fun.
Another reactor pointed out that there's a riff in this song which is also very prominent in one of Taylor Swift's more popular songs (I forget which). There's so much reuse of such elements in music I don't know why anyone bothers getting upset over the resulting comparisons, especially from a band that has so much variation in their music.

Taught by the experience of other people reacting to music, I preferred to apologize. A lot of people reacting to k-pop are insulted for comparing their music to the music of another artist. I'm glad normal people are here 🦊🔥

Great reaction and I'm so happy you and your friend understood the message of the song just from how it sounded and from the visuals of the video. I believe this video won awards too, it really is so good and so well produced.

yeah .... Babymetal can make you think that their music have similarity with other band/singer , it's all depends on your own familiarity with other music before you know Babymetal.

Great reaction! I love the messages conveyed; never give up, keep moving forward, offer help & accept help when needed, face your inner demons - it may be difficult, but they CAN be defeated! As a non-speaker of Japanese, this is one of just a couple of MV's I prefer over a LIVE video version because the messaging is easier to understand. The first time I saw this I wasn't really fully grasping its meaning. However, I was watching this with a woman that was going through a difficult time & her general outlook on life was kind of bleak. When the masks shattered she gasped out loud, started to cry & said, "They're defeating their inner demons, that's what I need to do!" That's when I understood.
BABYMETAL remarked that they were proud of this video because it revolved around KARATE, a martial art featuring no backward or retreating type of moves. Moametal loves karate because it starts with a bow & ends with a bow, & BABYMETAL tries to approach all things with respect & gratitude. Also, because karate is indigenous to Japan & its culture.
The catching the fly part was a nod to "The Karate Kid" movie.
    Arigatou! 🦊🤘

If Meshuggah wrote a pop song, I've always felt. Anyone else think the video colour pallete is a wink to the Bleed video from Meshuggah? Peak Babymetal on display here, still fantastic 4 years later.

There are a lot of influences in Babymetal. There is certainly pop music in there. So i won't hate you for saying Taylor Swift although i have no idea what her music sounds like. They remind me of a lot of different bands. To me they seem similar to Heart from the 1970's like 'Barracuda'. Heart had an incredible female vocalist and their first songs were pretty heavy.
In an interview Moa said she liked Cannibal Corpse and Ariana Grande. Yui said she liked Limp Bizkit. Which to me was interesting because Babymetal has a song in the style of Limp Bizkit 'Onedari Daisakusen' and a song in the style of Cannibal Corpse 'Sis Anger' (i think? maybe?) i'm sure about Limp Bizkit. Perhaps the girls liked those songs of theirs?

    • @TheLeomarti
      @TheLeomarti 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That's Yui who is a huge Ariana Grande fan (and supposedly Cannibal Corpse xD )
And I agree with you on Sis. Anger, even if it is a lot softened, there is definitely a Cannibal Corpse-ish brutal death metal vibe

many times its the hints of somethings familiar when listening to Babymetal that gets folks to listen to more Babymetal. It makes it easier to relate to the band and their music. Babymetal likes to mix it up, metalize it and create something all new.

Taylor Swift is a new comparison I hadn't heard before.
What we do know from an interview: the Su-metal singing style of 'hasire' which means 'run' was actually inspired by Mariah Carey. :-)

Like a lot of BABYMETAL songs, this one has a positive message about facing life's challenges.
It looks like that message came through loud and clear.
A lot of people miss what is revealed when the masks break apart, but you understood it right away.
For something a little different from what you've heard so far, here's a solo song from Su-metal (Su).
This is 'Rondo of Nightmare' from the Budokan Black Night concert, with a short lead-in instrumental by the Kami Band.
It's from 2014 when she was only sixteen, but it's still a classic performance:
