I scored one of these for $500! Believe me, I was shocked too. Lady didn't really know what she had. Was given to her from work as a retirement gift. Its an 8-Core, 64GB RAM, Vega 64 with 16GB HBM Memory and 2TB SSD! Pretty spec'd out machine and I love it! Im keeping it just because of its Rarity. Its the only iMac 'PRO' they came out with and one of the last with Intel. Yes mine runs warm too and will be outdated soon but for people that like unique launched items, like me, its an awesome device to have! Thanks for this video! Thought I was the only one that loves these nowadays! It goes along with my 2019 16" Macbook Pro, the last with Intel Processor. Now I just need a 2019 Mac Pro to finish off the lineup of last unique Intel Macs! Thanks again for the video!!
500 bucks!!! That is killer! Yes this is an incredible machine, the screen blows me away every time I turn it on. My main monitor is a 1440p ultra wide, and the colors+sharpness of this display is just unreal to me. Thanks for taking the time to watch!
I use a 2015 21.5" iMac with an i7 as the "head unit" for my home audio setup. Until it can no longer run Apple Music/Spotify/Tidal, I will continue to use it...almost daily. I foresee it lasting another 2-3 years, easy.
The speakers blow me away, I forgot to mention I edited the entire video without headphones… I just opened it up tonight and the speakers are absolutely massive, volume wise they take up what appears to be more than half of the space!
i got mine this week! i love the look more than the current ones and the peripherals are better than what you can get today. and for so much cheaper than it used to be.
Great video. I picked a 10-Core, 32GB Ram, 1TB SSD with Vega 64 in late '22 for $1700. At the time, I was hoping they would come out with a redesigned 27" iMac. After they released the Mac Studio and display, I figured it probably wouldn't happen. With the Studio Display being $1600 - I figured at $1700, I am basically getting the same display, and only paying $100 for a Xeon workstation. I'll probably keep it as long as it supports the latest MacOS.
My thinking is along that same line. At some point the computer will be useless but that 5k screen will look good long after that. At that point it’s time to get out the heat gun haha
@@techno_eclipse Nah. This computer will never be useless. They did Jurassic Park with Silicon Graphics workstations back in '92. It will always be good.
Still using one in 2024, it's one of the best Macs I ever had. I use a couple of M1 Macs as well, but find myself going to this iMac Pro most of the time simply because of its immersive bright display. It has some great built in speakers too, just listen to that heavy start up chime. Plenty fast for most day to day tasks, I still do video editing on it, even though my M1 Macs are faster. It runs smoothly on Sonoma, and, Apple still supports it until today. Even the upcoming OS Sequoia will support this iMac Pro. What’s not to like.
I have one of these (8 core model) and happily run a Linux distro on it with Mac OS having a smaller partition. It has given it longer life. Excellent machine as a generic 'computer device' imo. Cool video!! :)
I purchased the top spec iMac Pro back in 2017 when they came out. I changed the original HDD to an SSD back in 2020. OWC sells SSD kits for the iMac Pro with everything you need, including screen removal tools. It's still my daily office driver.
I just was given one of these from my workplace. Same spec but 2tb ssd and 64gb ram. I plan to use it for video editing. Your video made me realize how blessed I am. 😂
I have a 2017 iMac and struggled to choose a new Mac Studio and 5k display to replace it. It’s gonna be up to 5 grand to to basically get a faster version of what I already have that I bought at the time for 3 grand. I’m gonna wait until I can’t use this anymore before I pull the trigger or they finally make a new iMac Pro with the new m chips.
Ive got a 2013 27 inch IMAC. Changed the hard drive to ssd and added some more memory. It’s still running . Im gonna have to upgrade at some point as no more macOS updates
I spent $4000 on one back in 2020. Back then people were selling them for $5000…as they basically came out in Late 2017, and they retailed for like $7000 plus tax for the base model, which is truly insane. Honestly, mine has never been that fast, and the fans are crazy loud, this computer runs hot as balls all the time…I would not recommend buying one unless you’re getting one for under $1000
Love this. Still running a similar machine since 2020 and have to say it's the best Mac I've had to date. Was about to check running it on Sonoma as not on it yet, and think it seems ok.... great
I just joined the club and came across your video. I recently bought an iMac Pro with 64 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, an 8-core Xeon W, and Vega 64 for 1,400 Euros-an absolute steal. I’m upgrading from a 2017 iMac base model that felt a bit sluggish with its dated CPU. Some people think I'm crazy for buying a 7-year-old machine in 2024 instead of going for something more future-proof like Apple Silicon. But let me tell you why this makes sense: these specs are still impressive even in 2024, and this machine will easily last me for years before apps start demanding 8-core CPUs or 64 GB of RAM. Plus, I was lucky to get the Vega 64 instead of the 56, and I opted for the 8-core version because it's more than enough for the long haul. As for why I didn’t go with Apple Silicon, the math is simple: A Mac Studio would cost me between 2,000-5,000 Euros. A 5K display (LG or Apple Studio Display) would add another 1,200-2,600 Euros. I’d need a GPU chassis for 300 Euros. And an external GPU would easily run me another 1,000-1,500 Euros. So yeah, when you add it all up, this iMac Pro is definitely worth it.
For sure those days they don’t cost much. Yet while i still use my late 2013 imac 32g ram. The intel issue is the fan noise and heat that needs an external fan to cool it down not vey much a good thing. You should have talked a bit about opera legacy and if the computer still behave and work the same!
These computers are great. I have been using my 10 core 24/7 since I bought it new in 2018. It still runs great and I use it for high-end photoshop work. It's also great because I have a case for it and can ship it on an airplane and bring it on photoshoots, use it for work remotely without having to hook up separate monitors, etc. I am thinking of buying another one.
I’m still using iMac 27inch 2020; you know what ? As it has the intel chip and being able to launch bootcamp, I can play Blackmyth Wukong 4 K ( Medium ) smoothly on it, damn great !
Ok here's my situation: My 2016 27" iMac just died. I have a 2023 Macbook Air M2 15" laptop with 24 GB of memory and a 1TB HD as my "backup" and for travel, etc. I do graphic design work and minimal video editing professionally and teach college classes remotely. So I really do need the screen space for when I'm working and teaching, which makes me want to NOT replace this desktop computer with the only current iMac option which has a smaller screen ... I'm very strongly considering buying one of these older iMac Pros, and hoping it will at least bridge the gap between now and the next model iMac which I hope will have more options to suit my needs. Thoughts? Am I crazy for buying an older model computer in 2024??
Questions, Curious how much RAM and what size drive? How many processor cores did yours come with, and which GPU Vega 56 or 64? There’s a range of iMac Pros on BackMarket I’m considering buying for legacy software and dual boot.
Ive had windows my whole life deskstops and and laptops and then my ex her dad ended up passing away and he tripped out how I acted when I was over his house and wanted to use it. He would literally say a kid in a candy store so you know all the things that go on during death, who gets what and I’m still mind blown today that I was given this because let me tell you I have never went back to Windows after this❤❤ he always had the up-to-date New tech, you are the man Darrell! And my productivity or space just everything in general as far as working on a computer is completely different because of this gift, which is why I would never sell it or give it away and when the time comes, I will be upgrading😂❤❤😅
How will something like this handle photo editing with Photoshop and Lightroom? Hard core stuff! I imagine video editing is more rigorous but I'm on the verge of purchasing a refurbished one on ebay and I need to make sure it can handle my work load.
I still run the iMac 5k for audio production, last intel before M1 It’s loaded 2 tb ssd, 128 gb RAM, highest core for the time, fastest i9, fastest processor But they are 1/10 of the price refurbished with mid specs Mine was $5700! Ouch So it has to last a few more years But it does work very well for protools, studio one, Ableton Two displays using Thunder bolt, all Apollo audio interfaces External ssds for each DAW Great setup, it was just expensive for what it is today
👀 Hi from Michigan: I have the 2017 iMac Ventura • • 13.6.9 - - Purchased new in 2017 - -I may upgrade with what is coming for the iMac Nov. 5th., 2024 🚂
The only thing that kills it for me, is the 60hz refresh rate. Other than that, it's a solid Mac, and will work well and probably be the last Intel mac's updated. (T2 Chips) And those speakers.... wow. Yeah I am still a fan of the Space Grey iMac Pro
Hi, Hope you are good. Do you think this imac Pro would be still a good choice to buy in 2024 or 25? I am concerned that I won't be able to update the latest software. I want to have the 27 inch screen than 24 inch for software development and some video editing. Thanks.
I purchased one in 2018, with the top cpu and gpu, 2 TB. It was around 8500 I believe. These do get hot. I am looking forward to trading up to a studio with m4 next year. I have not had much success editing videos on mine, but i don't use it for that very often. I chalked it up to being a problem with adobe. I'm a software dev, but my eyes are going bad, and i actually need a larger screen. Wish Apple would make a 32" imac pro with m3 (fingers crossed in June)
I love the iMac Pro and always wanted a space gray iMac with that much power. I was 12 when I walked into an Apple store and saw one of these beasts for the first time and then saw it started at $5000, never got one because of how expensive it was but if Apple releases a new one of these in Space Black and Pro and Max apple silicon chipsets, I will be the first to get it.
Thank you, for this excellent post about your "space gray" 27-inch iMac Pro. Back in 2022, I was at this same place when looking at buying a used 2014, "space gray" trash can size Mac Pro 8-core/D-700/64GB/1TB SSD model for about $1,000. During this time the M-1 "Mac Studio" desktop models were on a 4-month back-order and, the "27-inch "Studio Display" was having various issues. Since, I planned on one day to add a trash can size Mac Pro to my collection. Perhaps, I should buy it now and just use it for three years until Apple's M-1, M-2, and M-3 desktops become more developed. So, I have been using my desktop system for two-years now. Currently, I have in my collection a glossy white 20-inch G5 iMac and a glossy white 24-inch Intel iMac and, I might add a "space gray" 27-inch iMac Pro model to my collection later this year if, their prices continue to drop (smile...smile).
I think Apple Plc does not support its older machines with updates for long enough. Seven years is not great imo. For casual use this machine could last for twenty years. Maybe. Also these big companies make a big deal about caring for the environment, bah no they don’t care. Even if I had to pay for updates I’d be happy to.
There lots of Apple products that since the M series are basically pointless investments now. This is one of them. And its not even about the performance, but the insane price people are still asking for them not knowing the world has moved on from Intel.
I always wanted an iMac Pro and I nearly bought one last year, but the high-end 2020 iMac simply outperforms it in every way. I do like the iMac Pro's 4 Thunderbolt ports and the color, but other than that, I didn't need the other things. I don't care about the webcam, and I use external speakers. I do like the iMac Pro's better thermal management, too.
I got (2024) iMac 2020 27" 3.8GHz 8‑core 10th-generation Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz // 128GB (four 32GB) of 2666MHz DDR4 memory; four SO-DIMM slots, user accessible // 512GB SSD // AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT with 8GB of GDDR6 memory (saving for the iMac Pro 32" in 2025-26)
It really is an incredible product. I would love to see them bring this back in a 6k screen, same form factor - minus the bezels, with apple silicon. Will never happen, but would be too cool
There’s no need to upgrade as long as it keeps working with your camera and continuous generating revenue for you as a business. There is no added benefit for slightly faster, computer in practice and spending thousands more to get the same performance.
I picked up one of these a couple of weeks ago for my wife. $1100 CAD. Same specs as yours. You simply cannot buy a better computer for an average user for that price. Period. Buy it if you can find it.
I have the MacBook Pro 💻 m1, 13 inches, I gonna sell it, I want a bigger screen , looking for iMac, do you recommend this iMac Pro? How smooth works everyday (I’m light user , some time play call of duty games but 90% I watch multimedia )
Yo great video brother!! I found an iMac Pro locally for $850 box and everything and I'm honestly debating because I'm tired of buying older apple products and go through the awkward hassle of selling off stuff and waiting with no computer until my next product gets shipped in and an M1 iMac with 16GB & 512GBSSD or even 1TB used could be found anywhere from 1,050-1,350$ I HATE the M1 design its a disgrace and the iMac Pro overall looks more amazing and can arguably keep up with the M1 iMac I guess the argument here is how will it age over time especially when software support runs out for the pro :(
The new iMac's suck. I have felt that struggle, I just decided to spend 1300 on my MacBook Pro with M1 Pro and just let that be my main computer. I can still test out these computers, but I know I have old reliable plugged in whenever I may need it
The thing is... once this computer doesn't hold up anymore you can just convert this into an external monitor. A few videos on TH-cam showing how to do that.
Just extremely terrifying. But very true, once the computer runs its course the display is effectively the same as the 5k studio display apple sells for 1600.....
I live and work in a mixed environment, so got an 18 core, 256gb ram, Radeon 64x and 4tb SSD for $2300 bucks to run some huge VMs. The ram upgrade alone on a new MAC Pro would be about the total cost of this box. I wanted it for work where I have to run 4-5 VMs simultaneously...The ram and the 18 cores makes them run smoothly...and leaves enough ram to do a lot of other stuff. The monitor is gorgeous, as is the camera, The computer is also very quiet...amazingly so. I also have MacPro 5,1 and 6,1s, and I like the form of the 5,1 but the performance on the iMAC Pro is significantly faster across the board. Unless you need the latest and greatest, it's a great computer to get (as long as you get it specced the way you want upfront). Upgrading after you get it is problematic.
Not when it came out in 2017 they weren’t.Desktop computers need more bezels than smaller devices. You are still getting plenty of real screen estate due to it’s size.

I got (2024) iMac 2020 27" 3.8GHz 8‑core 10th-generation Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz // 128GB (four 32GB) of 2666MHz DDR4 memory; four SO-DIMM slots, user accessible // 512GB SSD // AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT with 8GB of GDDR6 memory (saving for the iMac Pro 32" in 2025-26)
I own one of these, a powerful device, and you can upgrade it
This is an Amazing product. I was going to purchase this😂. And then the MacBook M1 max was released. So I had to go through with newer Apple product
It really is an incredible product. I would love to see them bring this back in a 6k screen, same form factor - minus the bezels, with apple silicon. Will never happen, but would be too cool
I got one local for $600 yesterday!
Is this your main machine?
It can do Bootcamp so.... can it run Apex Legends in Ultra?
I can test that potentially, in the middle of upgrading it
The touch ID doesn’t work with this Model
It just work with devices that contain Apple Silicon M
Wish they still sold these
Thoughts on the pink iMac? A little birdie told me your wife wants one and her birthday is coming up lol
Hmm, when did birds start talking to you? Maybe we should get you checked up on by a licensed medical professional
@@techno_eclipseI called in and they said a pink iMac would solve the hearing birds problem
Hahaha
This is better than the M1 MacBooks.
I can still test out these computers, but I know I have old reliable plugged in whenever I may need it
If you can grab one for $850, go get it NOW.
Should’nt you be jumping for joy over this good deal? This could really help your vertical leap😂
This is an extremely meta joke, and I am 100% here for it hahaha.
The thing is... once this computer doesn't hold up anymore you can just convert this into an external monitor. A few videos on TH-cam showing how to do that.
Just extremely terrifying. But very true, once the computer runs its course the display is effectively the same as the 5k studio display apple sells for 1600.....
@@techno_eclipse You can't use the iMac pro as just a monitor. I already researched this and sadly it apparently is not an option.
can you please provide us with any youtube links showing that?

I wish Apple would incorporate this design into the new version.
Slightly thinner bezels, maybe 30 inch screen, that would be incredible
I wished Apple still sell the iMac Pro.
29 inch screen (plus 2 because they reduce the bezel). New m3 max/ultra chips
They can be upgraded, who said you can’t?

All I care about is the four USB-C ports on the back so I can run a 3d printer and charge some shit.
If i found this computer at that price in my country i buy it. But here it cost 2.300 us dollars. :(
it is a 10 x better deal than the 27 inch studio display thats a fact!!
Great
That is not an imac pro. You are using the power of an ordinary imac
It will not run Logic Pro and all its new add-ons.
As touch ID as well
Dude get an 18 core iMac pro
I got mine today for $700.00 but i am seeing comments of people who got it for $500.00 :O
Where you can get that ?
I'm selling mine with a BRAND new logic board : 3.2 xeon ,Redeon pro Vega 16, 64 gb,1TB,
Run windows on it if stops supporting 😂
put Windows on it 🤣🤣🤣
I'm going to haha, bootcamp for the win!
I don't use my iMac anymore because of M1 Pro MacBook
If u don’t want it know more I’ll df take it
It can run windows, our Linux.
Upgrading after you get it is problematic.
ok
An intel Mac! No longer supported by Apple!! Whats its lifespan? …and it could break down tomorrow!😂😂😂
Find a Dell or HP machine from the same era, w sa,e specs running windows.😂 Good luck.
I have one that I bought in 2019, it’s been fantastic. I plan to keep it at least 3 more years.
Those bezels are horrendous
Not when it came out in 2017 they weren’t.Desktop computers need more bezels than smaller devices. You are still getting plenty of real screen estate due to it’s size.
Clickbait at its peak. Get an actual iMac Pro and then come back
Haha… what???
I would not buy it, It maybe a good buy for video editing but it is definitely not good for music production in 2024
