Amazing. Especially the last part where he says that it's reconnecting with our ancient roots. We do come out of the water. It makes sense but is still very impressive!
@Jonathan Soko We are all born from our mother's womb, which is filled with amniotic fluid. We quite literally are immersed in water until we are born.
I must learn French.. I'm so impressed how he's figured out how to work with his body and breath..thankful he shows us the capacity of the human Spirit
some great life advice/philosophy here. Be one with the moment, don't panic and force things, release tension an stress. Thank you Guillaume and TED for the insight!!!!
You can't speak french ok but is it a reason to hit the dislike ? What he's saying is great omg. I've been learning english a lot to understand TED articles and you guys just rage quit and leave with a dislike ?
I know this reply may come a bit late but... still... I think that through life we learn how to let go of these minor issues, not everyone will understand the grandiosity of what this man does and to which extent he manages to touch us deep within, by bringing us enlightment and taking us back to our origins. Its not for EVERYONE to enjoy. Im glad I came across this, personally it made my day :) I want to learn more about Guillaume Néry and hopefully will continue to enjoy the deep ocean through his eyes... Peace :)
wow what he said about sometimes needing to be in the present and go through that intense moment when you want to look at the surface/finish line but instead, just focus on what's in front of you, one step at a time. And in no time, it's over. So true, often when under intense pressure we want to just get to that end point (in his instance to breathe) but we've got to not do that but stay with it and soon we will be there
For those like me who have a wee bit of French, it was a fascinating talk. I was grasping for meaning most of the way, but he was very expressive and passionate. A lovely talk.
Wow, for some reason this is exactly what I needed to watch. Extraordinary talent and humility! Diving is the one thing I really miss during this quarantine.
Wow. This was an amazing talk, incredible and motivational. It sounds like a terrifying, but extraordinary experience. I can't believe the amount of mental strength this man has.
Life keeps happening and I keep coming back to this video. It’s such a powerful message, this mindset helps me so much to cope with anxiety. (And also makes me wanna go for a swim.)
Guillame Néry ...thank you for this wonderful speech. It took me with you while you experience all that. Hats off to what you do and feeling of humility. Bravo! Keep it up!

What is he mention is all about the power of the mind that can shift your spiritual condition to another realm. Human being is made up of physical body and spiritual soul. It is connected to the divine power. He reach deep state of consciousness by free diving. Maybe the calmness and quiet and lonely surrounding on the deep ocean, lack of light, nothingness make him feel something that not all human can achieve. Some can achieve this state by persistent meditation. This is remarkable. He already upgrade his body and soul compare to many human beings.
16:50 I wish to talk with him more about this state as this state seems very much like "Samadhi समाधि". He is the living person who doesn't claim as Saints in India did, but I feel the same he has achieved. Many people believe that it can only be attained after death, but the man says otherwise. I believe more in him than rumors.
Vivek.. thanks for saying that … His narration was bringing to mind the movie "altered states" where a guy goes on a mind quest with deprivation tanks and shaman forest drug experiences … our consciousness is the only thing that gives the universe of colliding rocks any meaning and yet most of us barely scratch the surface (pun?) of the possibilities for our conscious states.
@@solarnaut Yeah, same as movie Lucy. I am following him on Twitter, but he seems busy these days related to problems in his country. I wish to help him while I ask my question but how? 🤔🤔🤔
@ 16:50 he seems to sharing the notion that when you stop breathing your thinking stops too and your mind calms... while there is a connection between breathing and mind state, I don't think it's quite that direct. Earlier when he speaks of being at the bottom of the sea within the deep blue abyss, @ 10:56 he speaks of feeling like "a speck of dust, stardust" and @ 11:36 he says "Im a little speck of nothingness lost is all of time and space." For him and his wife, clearly the sea connects them to their spirituality. Others find that in meditation or sports or arts or work or fellowship or family. Maybe he is busy with earthly problems at the moment and maybe he doesn't always have time to respond to random inquiries... but maybe if you happen to ask him at the right time, your question(s) will feed the energies of what he and his wife are … dare I say "preaching"? ;-) It seems that many "enlightened ones" have had some form of "ego death" This guy may or may not be a good teacher for you... but there are other options as well... what's that expression "many paths one journey" or "many paths, one mountain top" or "many paths, one sea floor" ? ;-) Sam Harris' book "Waking Up, spirituality without religion" has a good chapter on "gurus" (many of the chapters are available on youtube) May you have many enlightened moments between the breaths.

Beautiful talk. Thank you! *** PLEASE note... If you are unfamiliar with freediving, the translation for Nitrogen/Gas narcosis is incorrect! Guilherme says it in French correctly, but the videos translation calls it decompression sickness and the bends which is INCORRECT. DCS is something entirely different and quite dangerous. FYI
Please give english subtitles. I am sure he is sharing incredible things which world needs to applaud. His videos are breathtaking and his fans are eager to know what he is saying.
I am a big fan, his videos are amazing!!! His videos doesn't need translate, it speak itself. I follow him but can someone translate into English so that he can reach audience around the world. I really want to know what he had to say about his experience. thank you
Thanks for the talk needed it today ... I watched your video featured on nat geo and it reminds me all the time of all the possibilities human body is capable of doing ..and the absolutely fascinating blue world .. nothing like it I have ever watched. ❤️❤️❤️ 🙏🙏🙏 I pray for your good health and many more successes ..
So basically, freediving is about HUMILITY and RELAXATION. Thanks Guillaume, now I'm interested in trying it. But I think I better start training with a master of medication.
Confession: I figured he was just some one-trick-pony who was going to acknowledge "so, yeah, I'm a freak who dives absurdly DEEP... but, hey... I made you look, didn't I ? :-P " … BUTT …. WOW … "a journey between two breaths" (isn't our whole life just made up of a series of journeys between two breaths?) DUDE is a freaking poet (thanks subtitles!) and had me in tears narrating his descent and again with his (and Carl Sagan's) Pale Blue Dot and again when he returns to our world... which, as he says, is where he belongs as he is "born again" with a new breath. He is humbled that "his team" enables him to go on these journeys … in truth there aren't too many things that any single human being could do without Team Humanity … just imagine how much the internet would suck if it had a population of 1 ! Haaaaa.
for those oblivious to French. he's talking. about his experience as a free diver, what he feels, what is done in the process. he's referencing the video. he tells that the feeling goes from your arm to your heart. etc

Dont get me wrong. I am wondering when the time comes for him to go away from the living world, if he might think being there in the depth of the ocean is the most wonderful way to go..where he know the most beautiful feeling of being.
