      @@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries , although not an official release, there is now a very impressive port of the NES/FDS version of Castlevania that is called Intellivania that is, as you guessed, a port of the game for, of all systems, the Mattel Intellivison. You might want to check that game out, as well as update this video, to reflect that information.

    I remember playing castlevania on a tabletop arcade in pizza hut, back when pizza hut was cool and gave out land before time puppets and Alf puppets! I was horrible at castlevania but it's spooky atmosphere kept me coming back to shell out more of my parents quarters lol. There's always been a mystery to that game in my mind mostly because I couldn't even beat the first stage when I was a kid. I recently bought the castlevania collection on ps4 and beat the first stage but then I just saved the game and quit playing for some reason like I didn't wanna progress any further because it felt like I had already beaten more than I'd ever seen as a kid lol. Anyway, I gotta get back to playing it one of these days! I'll stop rambling now and watch the video, this should be good! 👍

    Intense rivalry in similar output between Konami & Capcom, upping the ante in sheer quality: Ghouls 'n' Ghosts vs Castlevania, Gryzor vs Bionic Commando, Final Fight vs Crime Fighters (being able to plug people with a pistol in essentially a hand to hand beat 'em up was sick fun in the latter) absolute giants!! What a time to be alive...😌

    Seriously though, this game is the apex of the platforming genre. You put together a great story, nice graphics, recognizable icons from the horror movie franchises, one incredible score, and then keep it arcade style where it's a straight line from start to finish and you have the perfect storm that is Castlevania.

      @batmetal7284 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ivanscissorhands2008 To be more accurate it's not even part 4, much like the 3rd NES game is not part 3. A more appropriate title for Castlevania 3 is sorta what they called the 3rd Gameboy game, Castlevania Legend, since the original Japanese name is Akumajou Densetsu, or Demon Castle Legend. The first NES game, the MSX2 game, the arcade game, Super IV on SNES, and the X68000 game are all called Akumajou Dracula in Japan. They are all different versions of Simon's first quest. I guess you couldn't canonically put all 5 of these games in the chronology. While Castlevania II is meant to be a sequel to both the first NES game and the MSX2 game, it's also technically a sequel to the other 3 versions too. Castlevania II is the sequel to Castlevania IV.

    Funny thing. Castlevania almost had a Saturday Morning Cartoon series. Of course, it had barely anything to do with the games other than having Dracula and other monsters in it. Instead of Simon or any of the Belmonts, it was modern day (80's) teenagers exploring haunted castles. I forget where the concept art can be found, but certainly something I'm glad didn't happen.

    Even though I never played this game (and don't even recall ever having seen it played other than here and maybe some other review) it still brings back some cool memories. Other teens were always talking about it and the game package & comicbook ad art (along with the name and concept) really caught my imagination. The icing on the cake was having the (annoyingly unheroic) hero be a regular every Saturday morning in Captain N, Game Master. Even the castle and "Dracula" (a yellow tuxedoed one?) appeared once. If they'd only done a serious take on this. An Indiana Jones type vs the Universal Monsters on TV or movies (live or cartoon) would've had me glued to it.

    The greatest franchise of all time. (just avoid netflix, though). Simon's Quest was an eye opener for me as a kid since every other game I had played before that one you had to start all over without passwords, and if you walked too far the screen would not let you back. I found it really immersive to walk wherever I wanted to and discover secrets. I had the Tiger Electronic wristwatch game of Simon's Quest, and wore it everywhere. It's still on my shelf today.

    Castlevania always had stellar music since day one. That was super important back in the 8-bit days though. I think it really helped these games stand out among the top tier games of the time, and I don't think that most people in 2020 really give the importance to an excellent soundtrack that it deserves.

      If you want to play an arcade port of Castlevania, then I suggest playing Vs Castlevania. Its an arcade port of the OG NES classic with slightly brighter graphics and a higher difficulty of an already hard game. Its on the Nintendo E Shop under Arcade Archives and its worth the buy. Its much better than Haunted Castle.

    Haunted Castle was not the only arcade spin-off of the Castlevania series. The original Castlevania was also released in the arcades under Vs. Castlevania as apart of arcade ports of NES classics (this also includes Duck Hunt and Super Mario Bros). The gameplay has slightly updated graphics but still faithful to the NES but is noticeably on a higher difficulty than the already difficult NES game. Other than that, the gameplay is exactly the same. Its available on the Nintendo E shop under Arcade Archives and its worth the purchase. Even if your spending a lot of virtual quarters to beat the game (in which I have not because of how hard it is).

    • @PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries

      @@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries I actually played Haunted Castle as apart of the Konami Arcade Classics and I thought it was okay. I like it for its soundtrack, bright 8 arcade graphics for it's time, and it plays like an old school Castlevania game. The controls are a bit stiff but I got use to it. The only things I did not like are some of the enemies cheap shots, some hazards cause unexpected cheap deaths, the fact you only get a single health bar and a limited amount of continues, a bit anti-climatic boss fights, and the damn annoying stupid bats that too small to hit and cause multiple cheap shots. As flawed as it is, I do have a soft spot for it and it's the first Castlevania game I have actually beaten, of course with a shit ton of virtual quarters input it in. I like the game but I wouldn't say I love it.

    Patman, I hate to have to correct you again, but you have a major error in this video. The X68000 was not "a cd-rom based system." It primarily used 5.25 inch floppy discs.
    Akumajo Dracula came on floppy discs. Also, the computer used a YM2151 for sound, the same chip commonly found in much of the arcade hardware from the late 80s and early 90s.
    It also had midi capabilities and you could install games to HDD.
    Castlevania Chronicles featured both the original chiptunes from the X68000 version as well as an updated arranged soundtrack.
    Sorry to have to chime in again, I appreciate your videos but once more I also hate seeing wrong information out there forever.

    Excellent overview. I agree with you that Castlevania 3 is the best of the original NES games. However, with all the many, many 2D and 3D sequels nothing is as good as Symphony of the Night. The GBA games have some fun game play, but Symphony still stands as the pinnacle of the series. It would be amazing if they made another game like that on modern and even last gen hardware.
