    Thanks so much, I successfully replaced the broken actuator on my wife's CRV today with your guide. I appreciate the time you must have put into this, video taping all the angles.
    Anyway for anyone wondering, this is pretty much spot on how to do it, it gets a little hairy at the end when the locking mechanism is being pushed far enough out to view it and remove the actuator but it is not a problem if you follow fishy's advice and take it slow and watch for all the parts!
    Thanks again!

    Great video, thank you. This is for the Japanese built CRV, which is very different than the process for the British built that all the other videos on this topic show. Took me a little over an hour. A little difficulty slipping the little things in, but any guy who can't handle that has more problems than his lock actuator. :)

    Thanks for the assist on this replacement. Just finished the install on my girlfriend's CR-V and your video was a big help in finding all the necessary clips and fasteners. For reference, the part number for a 2004 CR-V (Japan built) is 72155-S5P-A11.

    Great help. It took me about 3 hours to do this. Just a couple of notes. You do not have to take off the screw that is connected to the white plastic piece as indicated on your video. Also when taking off the gold plate you need to take off the screw that is in front of the gold plate. Please note that the inside door handle metal latch that you loosened that you found the clip, the other end of that rod is connected to the round part behind the gold clip. Don't miss these steps!!!

    I would've appreciated a word or two about pulling down the metal track for the window rail before being able to move it around (while it hung loose), but this video was a big help to my dad and I regardless. We swapped our faulty actuator out with a new one in about 3 hours time, so it was right on the money. Thank you very much for the video! :D

    Thanks for the guide! I detached the exterior and interior door handle bar to give me enough room to "persuade" the unit to the right, after that it's was very easy to exchange the actuator.

    Very helpful video, I put it on the computer and ran back and forth between the car and the video. Took no time at all. A very simple change out once you know what needs to be done. Actuator was $29.

    Thanks for the helpful video.
    Several additional suggestions...
    There are many slightly different actuators. They vary between model years, and even within the SAME model year, between sub-models, like EX and LX. If your CRV is your only transportation, make SURE they sold you the right actuator, or you'll end up doing multiple disassemblies. Bring your VIN with you to the parts counter.
    The way the upper front plastic clip works is that you use something like blunt like a Phillips screwdriver to push IN the center button till it hits resistance after sinking a few mm. At that point, the four inside tangs that spread to hold it in will no longer be held out from the center, and you should be able to pull the clip out of the hole with a fingernail. Before you put it back in, push the center button back OUT so it sticks UP a couple of mm from the ring. Slip the clip into the hole, then push the button in till it's flush and it'll be secure.
    Make sure you note that at some point in the video, between when the panel came off and work began on the latch, the window was rolled back up to provide access...that's the only way you'll be able to swing the window rear channel forward and out of the way like he shows.
    After you have the latch loose, you'll see at the other end of the rod clipped to the inside door release a similar clip holding it to the latch. You should release that clip and free the rod from the latch - maybe take a picture first of how it goes on. This is because, once you remove the gold-colored plate in the next step, a metal lever and white plastic fulcrum will be pulled away by the leverage of the rod, and it might be hard to retrieve them and figure out how they used to fit in there. If, on the other hand, you free the lever from the rod, you can gently pry the plate off, and see how they go together. Once you know, take them out of harm's way before they fall out. Then pry out the actuator - it's now only held on by plastic tabs and channels - and snap in the new one. Put back the fulcrum and lever in the proper orientations, and snap the cover plate back on. holding them in. Reconnect the rod - referring to the picture you took if necessary - then put in and tighten the three big Phillips screws that hold the latch on. Reconnect the wiring plugs to the actuator and use the lock switch on the inside door release to verify that everything locks and unlocks as it should BEFORE you put all the rest of it back together. Also make sure that, when the door is unlocked, pulling on the inside release rod releases the latch and you can open the door.

    Great video. To move the window glass guide out of the way, pull the rubber weatherstripping out of the metal and then give the guide a little yank. It should pop right out.

    You did an awesome job, thank you so much!!!
    On 6:30 that bolt actually should not be there - it goes to the hole above.
    You can see that on the other guy's video with CRV made in England.
    Once that track gets pulled down it takes significant effort to force it to go up. Unless you spent large amount of time shaking it and appling huge amount of force at the same time it won't go up to the correct hole above.

    Have you ever seen where the door switch on driver's side does not work, but the keyless fob works to open ALL doors? The alarm does not honk either, but all doors lock/unlock with keyfob, but not the door switch

    Hi Roadster. I have a magnetic tip screwdriver set. It has come in very helpful when dealing with screws in tight places. Sure prevents screws from falling into the wrong places. :)

    1. The 3 flat screws are very difficult to remove. Use an good impact driver and big hammer , keep banging it till it loose.

    Question, what does the door handle latch rod connect to on the lock side? (Not sure if that is what its called) Mine popped off while replacing the window motor. (Not the inside door handle side) I can't tell where it connects to on the other side to fix it. Can you help here? I have a 2004 Honda CR-V

      If in Person it is a snap, for me to explain going to be hard to do. There should be a white tab that attaches to that 90 degree end and snaps into, I do not think it is that hard to do if asked or any more than that. about 7:30 that is the rod I think not fully showing it...

    • @MrVeeBlog
      @MrVeeBlog 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fishycomics 7:30 is the perfect spot in the video. Just above your left hand is the rod I'm talking about. The connection inside the door on the left, I am not finding what it connects to. But you're saying a its a 90 degree angle it snaps into. I'll go look again but once this is connected, I can quick rolling down my window to open my car door. Thanks for responding. This one has me stumped.

    Notice the video quality is a lot better. Guess you bought a better camera, eh?

  • @TheRonen
    @TheRonen 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @casperontheweb You may have not connected, or improperly connected the rod that goes from the inner handle to the locking mechanism. Fishycomics briefly shows the hardware/location where the rod connects to the locking mechanism in his Part 2 video @ 1:45, but does not show the rod. Hope this helps and good luck.

    Mine turned out be a broken wire.

  • @bobbytrav67
    @bobbytrav67 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Excellent tutorial! Does anyone know what the problem could be if the door actuator was replaced (passenger side, black part Japan), fuses are OK but auto door lock still does not work? I also had to get 2 of the 3 flat screws drilled out on the door as they would not come out for me and they got stripped by the dewalt, screw remover did not work either watch out.

    • @bobbytrav67
      @bobbytrav67 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It turned out to be a wire not making contact in the door jam according to the shop I had eventually fix it. 106k miles 2002 CR-V. The drivers side door lock actuator was also replaced about 5 years ago. So if changing the actuator does not work then focus on the wires in the door jam as another possibility.
