REI's film, "How to Run 100 Miles" , always helps keep me motivated with my tasks. In addition to that The Squamish 50/50 (Ethan Newberry) is so much damn fun, and since we're on the subject of Ethan Newberry and the Barkley, his film "Where Dreams Go to Die-Gary Robbins and the Barkley Marathons" is a must watch in my books.

Hi guys! Loved the selection but I would strongly include “ Western Time” by Billy Young. It’s about Sally Mcrey journey through the WS100 and it’s very empowering story, specially for female runners. But if was my favourite film about running I’d say Forest Gump!!! Because he runs for the same reasons as I run, “ because it feels good”😂😂😂

Watched ‘Chasing Pounamu’ last night with my wife and daughter (neither of who run) and they were both shouting at the tv for Adrian to make the cut-off 😁 I’d totally recommend this to anyone for a feel-good film 👍😁

It’s one of the best running films I have watched. She doesn’t hold back or gloss over the rough parts and isn’t afraid to wear her emotions on her sleeve for all to see.
Ca C It’s actually a very fun race and a great time for runners and spectators. I was there last year for my daughters marathon run and it was a wonderful day and lots of fun.

I'd add 'Where Dreams Go to Die', my introduction to the Barkley and still an extraordinary piece of work; 'Unbreakable' (free on TH-cam) covering a stellar field taking on Western States; and, less showy, Kerry Ward's films including taking on the US 200 milers but also smaller adventures like taking on slot canyons

One of my favourite films growing up is called “town of runners” it follows the lives of 2 junior athletes as they go through the ranks to try and compete for Ethiopia, it’s very feel good and gives a good insight into the culture I must have watched it like 10 times, I very much recommend it! And I also got it out of complete chance for 50p in a charity shop like 10 years ago it was such an amazing piece of fortune for me to see it !

My goal is a half marathon by the end of the year, assuming life gets back to normal. Great recommendation!
If you love anime, Run with the Wind is super inspiring. Its about a group of amateurs trying to qualify for the Hakone Ekiden, a 200+ km relay involving 10 runners per team. Themes of grit, teamwork and finding meaning, really inspiring.
The Ginger Runner is an excellent channel who puts out amazing content every week; Running Kit reviews, weekly podcasts and fantastic running movies. Would definitely recommend!
Interesting list but they all seem to be about ultras! From the big screen, Chariots of Fire is one of my favourites. There were some movies about Pre (Steve Prefontaine) about 20 years ago that worth checking out. I remember another one about The Four Minute Mile which features Adrian Dunbar from Line of Duty!
I loved Anna's back garden marathon and then to cook hot cross buns too. I bet they went down well! I really hope 'Witney Runs A Marathon' is on the list. It is the only film I've seen lately and I loved it.

Such healthy positivity - so much needed these days - thank you! I've watched many of these and especially loved your own account of your incredible run - so earthy and honest. Marvellous stuff and like many on the list, will induce emotional responses, from tears to jubilation. I highly commend any of Billy Yang's movies and recently enjoyed "A long run" - the story of Bob Anderson's run challenge he set himself at age 64 - he also founded Runners' World magazine - great story. We also loved "Transamerica" with Ricky Gates - his story of trying to understand his country and its people after being seriously disillusioned after a recent election. As a child I would almost always see my parents watching an athletics based movie called "a shining season". Its an oldie and it'll bring a tear to your eye.

I’m surprised that most films are about trail and/or ultra runners. There is a need for road runners, and non ultra runners.
