  • Despite it being a spiral, it's not a spiral. Yep, definite not a spiral.

    Never noticed this before but the black sections look like little wave forms of audio, super cool!

    I attempted to make this design. I thought I followed the same steps, but my shirt looks nothing like your shirt. I didn't tie mine as tight. I like yours much better. I know no 2 are alike.
    It amazes me how that happens. Thank you for all the inspiration!

      You're welcome. If you're using rubber bands, give sinew a try. The difference is amazing.

  • @pattic.2975
    @pattic.2975 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was a very interesting fold, I like that. Maybe it was too tight, but also too thick of dye for this tight a fold? The dye didn't penetrate the material? This is 2 years ago, so you probably did more, I'm on the hunt for others!

    Thank you for sharing. I enjoy these videos & draw inspiration for my own designs & colors. I think the spiral from the center might be the desired effect you were looking for.

    This is beautiful! I love the use of black but I think a rainbow with grey would be amazing

  • @hunterh4075
    @hunterh4075 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Seems like you could get the same effect by just accordion folding diagonally, and doing the rainbow on one side and black on the other? Just seems like it would be a simpler process with less variables to me.

      The colors would have been in a different pattern and more regimented/defined using that method.

    May I ask how you come up with your designs? Do you have inspiration or is if just trial and error? I’m fascinated by your videos and am an amateur tie dye-r myself! 😆

      Some are based on another design I see and others are just something that's a whim that happens to pop into my head.

    I am just studying and planning at this point but I see no evidence of spiraling the accordion. Maybe because to the way he dyed it. ?

    How do you achieve a thicker dye that I’ve seen you use? Especially for black. Thanks!

    • @CasualCollisions
      @CasualCollisions  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thicken with guar gum. But, most people use sodium alginate.

  • @christinelandrum6144
    @christinelandrum6144 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why do you thicken the dye? Does it help to penetrate the fabric more?

    • @CasualCollisions
      @CasualCollisions  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it penetrates less and allows greater control of the dye placement. The thicker the dye, the more it stays on the surface of the folds.

    • @CasualCollisions
      @CasualCollisions  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I joke off-video that it's pronounced "money blue" as it's 3-4x the price of almost any other dye in bulk. But, it's a gorgeous, rich, hyper-saturated blue. And, I keep buying it and using it.
