This vintage, historical, Victorian, recreation movement (whatever it can be called), is the key to bringing back quality and timelessness to women's clothes.
I used to work as a costumed and corseted reenactor in St. Augustine, Florida. I could comfortably sit on a backless bench for hours without a problem because my corset provided all the back support i needed and my 16th century skirts provided enough padding to make stone comfortable. I also found that it's more comfortable (less uncomfortable?) to have an allergic reaction to tobacco smoke in a well-fitted 16th century corset than in a modern bra. I've gotten rubbed raw by my bra band from the friction of my chest expanding and contracting violently as i struggled to breathe, but the corset support is gentler and more spread out. The chemise worn under it cushions that support even more.

Extremely late to this video, but this was such a great conversation (and thank you Katherine for recommending my book!) I also wholeheartedly agree to the final caution re: pelvic floor weakness or pre-existing prolapse. I get so many messages from pregnant folks asking me how long they have to wait after delivery before they start wearing a corset. I always tell them to wait and see how delivery goes. Without going into too much detail, my pregnancy was textbook perfect, but when I went into labor my regular OB wasn't there and my case was mis-managed by a resident in a teaching hospital, resulting in damage and multiple surgeries so that I couldn't wear corsets for the entire first year until I was fully recovered and rehabilitated. Congratulations to your fifth, that is truly amazing! And thank you again for the mention 😊
About the first one, the boost in emotional health -- this might come from the same place as weighted blankets. A lot of neurodiverse people and especially people who experienced childhood trauma benefit from weighted blankets, sort of like a prolonged safe hug
In body therapy the lower back represents support. Especially support from ones father. And you got my attention at point number 1, because whenever my husband firmly grabs my waist I feel relief and support, both physical and emotionally. I have only worn a corset three times when I was an extra in a movie and it wasn't uncomfortable at all - except I couldn't eat as much 😅 You have now convinced me; I want a corset!! 😀👍
I started wearing a corset consistently this year. It's a *huge* help. I used to not be able to stand or sit up straight for very long due to low back pain, but the corset keeps me going for a full work shift no problem. It's not the best made corset - my mom's first try, and we were modifying an extremely poor commercial pattern from etsy - but it's already such an amazing improvement you honestly can't convince me to go back to bras ever.
Yes I’m with you there, I have scoliosis so standing at the kitchen sink for just 5 minutes has had me in screaming pain, all down the left hand side. I also have a placenta hernia and until I can have surgery to fix this the corset helps to keeps it supported. Wearing the corset helps me keep active because of the full support. Best thing is you can make so many pretty corsets even with modern clothes. One thing is I wish I had been wearying them pre-menopause when I had my monthly cycle it could have helped during that time of month simply because it held your stomach and lower back which would be supporting those muscles. I have no idea why people think that it’s only used for pulling in the waists. I find as long as you can breath all the way down to bottom of your lungs then it’s not too tight. The other reason for wearing the corset is because I’m over large up top I could never find a bra that helped with removing the weight off my shoulders, the corset solved that issue the very first time of wearing one.
@@dawsie I have scoliosis too between my shoulder blades. It's nothing too crazy though. Where did you order yours, if so? I want something but can't spend a lot. I have a short waste but long hips. I hope I can find something that fits.
I have an original early Edwardian corset (it has a stamp on the inside busk with “Jan 1903” in it). It’s shaped very similarly to the one shown at 2:20. It was patented for housemaids and other working class women, being made of durable starched cotton with very minimal decoration. It is one of the most comfortable things - it fits perfectly and I don’t even need to lace it too much! The baleen morphs around the body so it takes your shape after you take it off, it’s great 😂 I don’t wear it too much due to it’s age and the risk that it could become damaged. I save it for reenactments, but it is still and incredible piece of clothing
I have been thinking about wearing a corset because I have a large bosom, and have had shoulder injuries that are exacerbated by bra straps. When I was in high school, my doctor prescribed longline bras to combat neck and headaches, but I still ended up with huge furrows in my shoulders. I hope to be able to take your course in the future, as my sewing machines are in storage until my fiancé and I get married this coming May.
I wore a corset to get me through the pain until I got a breast reduction I was a j cup now I'm a g cup. I could not afford a custom corset so I was stuck with an off the shelf that did not fit too well and even that was better than nothing. (bras aggravate a rib injury I had as a teen). So I'd say go for it. One thing that was a down side for me: I got a lot of attention from men which I hated as I am NOT attracted to men. So body issues were exacerbated.
My 98 year old mom wore a Maternity girdle during her four pregnancies. It laces up like a corset... She said it took the weight off the sore places if she put it on during wake up before she stood up. She had always worn shape wear, and encouraged me to do so when my back hurt. Elastic support is always a help. A corset seems like a natural help.
I absolutely agree with the benefit #4 ! It's so much harder to fit beauty standards nowadays because everyone is doing plastic surgery, whereas before you just could use "external" help ! Loved your video, thanks for all the great advice !
❤ eye opening. I am a large busted woman with chronic neck and shoulder pain. Love the idea of more comfort and distance between the public and private bodies too🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
If it didn't cost so much time to make one I would wear one. I wear a waist trainer occasionally, and did wear it daily for almost a year to help heal diastasis recti and an umbilical hernia. I had a lot of the same benefits you mentioned. *I didn't wear it with lazy abs though, meaning I consciously held my abdominal muscles flexed through the day and it served as a reminded and support for that muscle training. I actually gained pelvic floor muscles through that time and no long have urine leakage now that my core is strong again.
I'm 60 and I've had scoliosis since my early teens, which have gotten worse with age, also due to cancer treatments, early menopause and osteoporosis in my spine. The muscels in my back are constsntly sore. I bought a vest that is made of a tight-knit slightly elastic fabric, similar to shape wear, but being a lot more elastic. I can only wear it in the cold season. When I put it on it feels so good around my rib cage hips, hugging me. May sound silly, but it's very pleasant and my back muscles are less sore.
I wear a back brace like you would buy at Home Depot, but it is problematic for starters the velcro sticks to my clothes. It also isn't tall enough to help my entire back. After searching the web for a better one and coming up with nothing, I am going to embark on designing my own, but as I started thinking in that direction, I stumbled onto your channel and now I am moving in the direction of designing and making my own corset. I have a degree in fashion design and have made period costumes for stage production and wedding attire.
I soooo want to try wearing a corset. Years ago in my early 20s, I spent several weekends during the summer working at a Renaissance Fair & wore a costume corset. I loved it & have been interested in wearing a real & supportive corset. I like the posture enhancement & frankly, the overall body shaping properties. Hearing that it can help w/mental health is very intriguing & just adds more incentives to my desire to wear a corset. Problem being, I haven’t sown anything since high school home ec class! I don’t even own a sewing machine. But I’d so love to have one made especially for me.
After doing historical reenactment I have learned that feeling laced up in something is a sensory nightmare for me and I can't stand boning in anything but I can definitely see why some people love them. Especially for back support.
I spent 2 months volunteering to build and used a back brace everyday, even to do seemingly menial tasks that required to crouch a lot. It’s was a blessing, so I’m not surprised a corset is helpful in day to day activities, actually the back brace is also built with boning. I already knew corsets could be helpful but now I’ve lived it myself and I look forward to making a corset.
Wow! Thank you for sharing this information. I totally believe that corsets help with pain relief; and it has helped relieve my pain every time I wore corsets! I I have not worn a corset on a daily basis but have had a few. I have suffered back pain my whole life due to "s" scoliosis and have worn girdles for years; which helped all the same benefits you have mentioned...except 1980s - present girdles are never quite long enough (torso) or have fabric that wears well from being made out of modern elastic fabrics that do not keep their shape. I have always said "shame on COCO Chanel for introducing the "freedom movement of removing corsets". I am a retired fashion designer/tailor and am excited to check more into this subject! Seems like a good idea to make custom corsets now since I need one too. ❤
I’ve been in pain this year because for over a year I haven’t been wearing bras because they don’t fit me. I’m a very conical shaped skinny girl and my spine and bust needs support but my rib cage size is different from my slightly small bust size. Nothing fits well or looks that great. Not wearing a bra has painful results, even though I’m discreet about it. Skinny people with a small bust very much need what you have been describing.
I know why it does that to your mental and emotional health. It’s because it’s pressing on your belly where your visceral fat is. We hold our emotions there and the pressure is going to help pull up unresolved emotions. We do agree that corset training makes your belly smaller right? Because it’s helping to process visceral fat which would also make your belly smaller.
I love corsets. I love the feeling of wearing them. And I love the silhouette. I do have a good one from UK corset story. It has 24 steel bones. However it is not custom made. It took a long time to shape to my body. It doesn't fit perfectly on the hips. I wish I Had a custom made one. I don't think my sewing is even close to good enough to make my own. But I will check out your link 😊
I am having the too tight problem with modern day bras. I got fat and they just don't seem to make undergarments that fit me and don't suffocate and hurt my back.
I have neck pain now you make me Wana try one. Cause now that I'm in my thirties I do not wear underwire bra. I just can't anymore so now I Wana try just from your comment fr
I have a modern day corset with hook and eye closures that actually have shoulder straps that help support my upper back as well. And had thought about giving it a try again. I suffer with a lot of back pain and I think your video just so came up in my feed to affirm my thoughts. I shall pull it out and give it ago and hopefully help my slouching posture and scoliosis as well. Thank you for sharing 😊
Thank you for all your great advice!! Ive been contemplating wearing a corset to help with my posture. I have always had bad posture and also have scoliosis. Over time it has worsen bc of my bad posture. I'm hoping this will help!!
Thanks for your video. I have been out of Corsetry for a while but it benefited me when I was wearing them. Only caveat was when I had walking pneumonia... not a good time to compress ribs. But, I have decided to try your course to make a custom corset. Eventually, I would like an overbust as the bra strap thing is not working for me.
I have wanted to learn to sew for a long time. You are inspiring me to do sew. Haha yes pun intended. My youngest daughter wanted to learn and bought a nice machine. She never used it so I bought it from her with full intention to learn how to use it. That was 4 years ago.
Just a helpful tip. You may want to have it serviced before using it. Newer machines are built to be used shortly after being purchased, and consistently thereafter. When they sit unused, even new, the oil can gunk up the machine so it needs to be cleaned and rejuvenated. If you use it while it's in such a state, it'll decrease the life span of the machine. Think of a sewing machine as a car.
I’m getting a breast reduction in Jan of thinking about it for about 10 years. My reasons are that it’s a horrible difficult experience buying bras and clothing and I have horrible back and shoulder pain on top of a chronic illness. I’ve never buy a bra I actually like. I literally just buy what fits. And with clothing I have to size up so much to make it fit that it makes me look sloppy and baggy. Which is so frustrating because I have a 29” waist. I’ve looked into corsets and tried to get one made but she just couldn’t get it right because of the 11” difference.
Worked for a plastic surgeon for five years. He specialized in breast reductions. It really did help with some headaches, neck pain, shoulder and back pain. Just keep in mind that when your breasts are smaller, if you have a large belly ( common with large breasts because physical activity is difficult), it will appear much larger. Good luck. Enell bras help with physical activity both before and after breast reduction surgery.
@@deborahgrantham7387girl with an A cup and a bit of a belly here. Can confirm that if your bust is on the smaller side it can make your stomach look larger.
There's a lady who sells organic flannel wraps for doing castor oil packs on the abdomen. She says that the light pressure (in her case, from the flannel wraps) around the abdomen do induce a sense of relaxation. And she also says as we breathe in and out, the light pressure on the diaphragm helps move lymph through that area. Obviously, only light pressure and not too tight.
Beautiful girl and video, well presented, beautiful children, and i agree that corsets will fix bad posture, build confidence and oxygenate the body much better by fixing posture and ability to breathe correctly.
Oh, wow--talking about pressure, check out something called a SPIO vest or other types of vests, usually made for children with autism or similar conditions, who benefit from a feeling of pressure around the torso. This is fascinating!
Very interesting and informativ video! Thanks! I want to buy a corset for me soon, because I want to try it out, and I like the style of corsets. And I can imagine, that it´s helps a lot with self-confidence and loving your self, and gives you more wellbeing; because of the pressur effect. I guess, it´s like using a weight blanket. Or, I guess, it´s the same like a so called "thunder jacket" for anxiouse dogs!
Thank you for this video! I would really love to start wearing corsets on a regular basis. I have scoliosis and back and hip pain, and it also causes me to have a terrible posture. This would be a problem solver. Im also very busty, and ive played with the idea of getting a brest reduction simply because modern clothes don't fit me... but you made a wonderful point. It's unfortunate many of us feel the need to change ourselves due to modern day fashion not fitting us. Thats not right at all. Ill definitely be looking into your corset making course, thank you!
I think in modern life having a weak core and suffering from headaches and backpain from resulting bad posture (also no one tells you to stand up straight anymore) is really common. And having a heavy bust dragging you down. Bust support in a bra is meant to come from the band but when you have quite a bit of fat around the ribs you are either having a too tight band digging in or you have very little support from it. Resulting in pulling on the shoulderbands. The old support wear used to be full torso, you used to be able to buy them at the market stalls here so I got a good look, they could hold in everything from the hips up, just like a corset really just more flexible and washable. And then of course the step in with it for hips and thighs. For a smooth look under the dress. I think it's only really recent the bra was all you had. It's interesting that the pressure makes some people les anxious, for me I can't take anything too tight around my stomach or trying to hold my stomach in, I need to practice belly breathing for relaxation. That is restricted by a corset unless it's very loose around the waist.
I wonder if someone should try the belly binder first and see if they even like the way it feels before investing in a corset. Also core strengthing might help too.
I loved belly binding after my 4th & 5th. My 6th & 7th I got hemorrhoids pushing. My 8th I didn't, I was so shocked, so I put on my old binder on the loosest setting 3 days after baby & gave myself a new hemmy as well as my old one popping out again. My pelvic floor itself is pretty strong though.
Very interesting. I'm intrigued, but also confused about how the corset may exacerbate core weakness while also helping with posture even when not wearing it? Really puzzled by this since core strength is essential to proper posture. Anyone have any enlightening comment on this? I would mainly be interested in wearing it to help with my posture as I tend to slouch as well.
I have Postural Orthostatic Tacchycardia & Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (cousin of Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos) and medical corsets are recommended sometimes to help with posture / muscle strain, preventing hypermobile movements & blood pooling in abdomen. I’d imagine gentle management of these things (because people may have some Hypermobility or blood pooling without being unwell) would likely feel more vitality & less slumps through the day. I would like to find out how to make one/have one made (I’m not well) that helps medically and is flattering to wear for everyday use. I’d have to be careful the friction didn’t effect my fragile skin from my HSD too
A lesser known fact is that our bodies have skin regions that have (more) sensors that stimulate the feeling of safety and bonding. In particular of imporance for babies. Those skin regions are (amongst others) upper back below the neck, the inside lower arms and halfway the flanks (at the lower ribs). Typically the regions that make contact when holding a little child (or your partner!). Corsets might stimulate the flanks regions, resulting in the first benefit mentioned.
8:58 as a large busted woman I lean forward to support my bust. I think those of us with larger breasts just shifts our posture without good support. I love how corsets help with that
When i want to feel good about my body, i put on my best corset even though it's a bit fancy. It makes me look nice and i don't feel guilty about that, especially as someone who simply can't lose weight in a healthy way (after 30+ years of trying).
I'm 67, and I recommend a Carnivore diet for a few months and then finish off on Keto or Mediterranean meals. I found Carnivore to be a game changer. I use it off and on, sometimes only two weeks, and I get great results. But, if I learned one other thing, it's that we are all unique, and it might even be you have tried these diets? Whatever the case, id never thought about corsets, but, gonna try it!
@@catherinecastle8576 oh yeah I've tried all of the diets. Also fasting. And exercise. None of it lasts, sadly! But I'm grateful to be healthy otherwise.
@@sarareimold3151 yes, me too, glad to have what health I do... I had a head injury at 40 that changed my life and my formerly reasonably trim self. Also, I never get the results on Carnivore my husband gets, but, it did help me, thankfully, because if you're happy at your weight that's one thing, but, if not, yet find it hard to lose weight no matter what...the constant trying can be a kind of a daily misery...so if something works to help us feel happy, I'm all in! Actually, my go to place of happiness is an English Afternoon tea...pot of tea, egg salad sandwich and a custard tart...7th heaven for me. If my husband points out the obvious, that it's not a weight loss strategy, I just glare at him until he goes away. My attitude is a cheerful disposition is important too 😉
I really want to wear a corset. First i have to learn how to sew. I don't know anyone i could personally hire for this some they're way out of my price range to order custom made online
Hopefully this is a good place to ask this question. I have a very small bust for the size of my frame, and I always hear people talk about corsets for large busts, but what about small? I recently made my first ever stays - the Laughing Moon Regency long stays - and I had to use the smallest bust gusset available yet I have a 36 inch waist. I like the idea of wearing a corset, but i know that regency one did nothing for my body positivity in the bust department lol. I have always worn molded bras just so I can achieve a more "flattering" shape and have some definition between my bust and waist. I know corset times used padding, but how would you pad the top area out for wear with somewhat modern style clothes? I would really love to try wearing corsets, but I've just never heard any experience with a small bust and I'd love to hear other people's stories.
Bernadette Banner's channel might be able to help you with that. I think I remember her having a sort of "pillow" on top of the corset to get the "pidgeon breast" shape she needed in that video.
Hi Katherine, I learned a lot in this video and I must assume it could also help with digestion. Love your choosing in clothes. I would love to see a video about fashion you wear or how you handle the hair-body situation (if you know what I mean 😅). Thanks a lot! 💯🙌🏼
Katherine, I so much enjoy your perspective on different things. Today’s video is very intriguing. Do you know anyone who makes custom fit corsets? Online? Dot
I just had the thought that maybe the weakened pelvic floor is the reason why doctors believed the uterus was held in by strings. The belief was that the uterus was held in by strings and tight lacing a corset could cause those strings to break, causing uterus prolapse. Maybe the reason is because long term wearing of a corset can weaken the pelvic floor and cause uterus prolapse. If so, the "fix" for this potential is to ensure you remove the corset periodically to do core exercises.
Thanks Katherine. I'm thinking about corsets lately, because when I layer on sweaters and vests at wintertime, the increased pressure is uncomfortable on my boobies as a braless woman. Would rather make a custom corset than wear a bra!
Also, Katherine, does your husband have to help you get your corset on, and how do you keep the ties on it from bulking out your clothes in the back? Dot
I’m not Katherine but I do wear corsets and I’m easily able to put it on without help. The corset and strings are well-concealed by clothing made from woven fabric, but will show under close-fitting knit fabrics
I have an apron belly and I'm not sure how to wear a corset that fits right over my whole belly if that males sense. They never cover the bottom like 3rd. Any tips?
I don’t have the time to learn to sew one, what’s the best place to get a custom corset? My goals are to help with neck and shoulder pain, to stop slouching, general spine support.
I have definitely felt the effect of feeling better emotionally while wearing a corset. I feel this is related to the fact that while wearing a corset we are not over eating. Eating too much is one of the main reasons nowadays people are more prone to depression & mental illness.
Childless, apple shaped yogini here. I’m fascinated, because none these benefits relate to me (I’m currently in the planning stage of a self-made bra). Especially number 4 is anathema to me, because practically all corsets nip in the waist in some shape or form. The only example I know is the regency period. But when I’m not apple shaped I go straight up and down. I don’t want my private body masked by something it is not and never will be. But thanks for a great video, because we are all so different and what a joy that is.
Checking on it, looks like she had SSL issue yesterday but has since repaired it. I know how annoying those are from our own website, so thank you for letting her know so it could be fixed.
They take the weight from our breasts solely off of our shoulders. It also behaves as a kind of back and abdomen brace. That cannot be a mistake that there is pain relief. It actually makes complete sense. They certainly look much more comfy than “spanx” 😬
Thank you, Katherine! Extremely informative. On that cautious side, do you think a corset is not that suitable for menopausal and older women where the pelvic floor will have a natural tendency to weaken? Otherwise, all the benefits seem to fit older women's needs so well.
If you are unsure, it would be wise to consult with a pelvic floor PT. Most people could benefit from some pelvic floor PT (simple exercise to do at home) If and when everything looks good, corsets would definitely be great to try!
Yes, I agree, and am happy for anyone who finds improvement that route. The good thing about corsets is they can help support the weight a lot more comfortably than a bra (ie. not on the shoulders).

I don’t wear it too much due to it’s age and the risk that it could become damaged. I save it for reenactments, but it is still and incredible piece of clothing
I did 18th century living history many years ago. I loved wearing a corset; my back never hurt. The support was great!
I've started to wear a Victorian style corset (that fits me). I LOVE the back support! I don't wear it daily though but I love it.
Now I want to wear a corset.
Love the idea of more comfort and distance between the public and private bodies too🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
Yes, I wonder if large breasts would benefit? We're not all tiny little women 😘
Your point on mental health reminds me of how weighted blankets can help with insomnia linked to anxiety and in neurodivergent people
Totally agree with point #3. In college my back went out and lacking anything to help the pain. I put my corset on, and I was able to move again.
Definitely putting this on my "to sew" list.
Such a beautiful blouse. I would love to learn how to sew this. It's absolutely stunning.
As a neuro divergent, I feel SO much better in a corset.
I want one. Where would you say is a good place to get a corset?
really 😮 I'm neurodivergent too.. I have to try it!!
Same and... SAME. I need to get more styles.

I have that hip and lower rib pain. I was a nursery nurse for 29 years. I held babies on that side, my body remembers that tension.
I think I still have the red weal on my back from wearing wired hold up bras years ago 😢😂
I wouldn’t have thought of how it might be comforting to feel the gentle pressure around the abdomen. Thanks for giving me a new perspective!
This is very intelligently thought out.
I know why it does that to your mental and emotional health.
It’s because it’s pressing on your belly where your visceral fat is. We hold our emotions there and the pressure is going to help pull up unresolved emotions.
We do agree that corset training makes your belly smaller right?
Because it’s helping to process visceral fat which would also make your belly smaller.
thundershirt for dogs are used to reduce anxiety.
That was really interesting. I'm always interested in improving my self-confidence and posture. I will try it :)
I really love the first point. When I wear my 18th century stays it makes me feel as if im being supported.
I am able to wear a corset much more comfortably than an underwire bra. Corset wearing also helps me with neck pain
Where do you get your corset?
I have neck pain now you make me Wana try one. Cause now that I'm in my thirties I do not wear underwire bra. I just can't anymore so now I Wana try just from your comment fr
What a lovely commentary on corset-wearing.
I had to stop wearing mine when i had my gallbladder removed. I should bust it out again now that it's been sometime. It helped my posture so much

Thanks for all the information. I love wearing my corsets, they definitely help with my back pain
did you buy one? I'm hoping to find a good place. I sew..but I can't do that class :D
🎉 I never thought of it like that. I already have a weighted blanket and love it.
Hi Katherine I bought two corsets and going to start wearing yeah
Good Catherine will I be able to purchase the corset you are waring meant the same style love it very beautiful.
You are my favorite youtuber
im a daily corset wearer ..my 18 th century stays are my favorite
I love how corsets help with that
Hi Katherine. Great info you are talking like we know what your saying. What is a stay ? You flash some garment but we have absolutely no idea !?
I think a good modern alternative to a corset would be well fitted shapewear
30A future corset-wearer here, and yeah, there are padding styles meant to be worn with a corset to make your bust appear larger.
I love your crown of braids.
Online? Dot
A good custom made corset is a wonderful piece of clothing.
Nice explanation,... well done
Obrigado!
Thanks!
Hm, I’ve been planning on making 18th c. stays and jumps for myself. I wonder if they might help me with my migraines. It will be interesting to see.

Hi Katherine great utube very informative interesting God Bless you for giving birth to five babies wonderful 💕
Great tips, I am intrigued. Thanks.
Thank you. This was very informative and helpful :)
Unrelated to the video, your top (or is it a dress? It looks like a shirt) is very pretty. :)
Is there a pattern for this top?
I thought the same, and wondered if there were a pattern. It’s beautiful!
Thanks! It is a wrap blouse, and I got the pattern from a seller on Etsy ☺️
I have an apron belly and I'm not sure how to wear a corset that fits right over my whole belly if that males sense. They never cover the bottom like 3rd. Any tips?
Beautiful top.l have know idea how a modeling company has not snapped you up .you are so beautiful and feminine,it’s so refreshing to look at 👍
I don’t have the time to learn to sew one, what’s the best place to get a custom corset? My goals are to help with neck and shoulder pain, to stop slouching, general spine support.
I have definitely felt the effect of feeling better emotionally while wearing a corset.
I feel this is related to the fact that while wearing a corset we are not over eating.
Eating too much is one of the main reasons nowadays people are more prone to depression & mental illness.
that's a lotta hokum and fatphobia you got going on.
If I’m not up to making one is it possible to get a good adjustable one?
Childless, apple shaped yogini here. I’m fascinated, because none these benefits relate to me (I’m currently in the planning stage of a self-made bra). Especially number 4 is anathema to me, because practically all corsets nip in the waist in some shape or form. The only example I know is the regency period. But when I’m not apple shaped I go straight up and down. I don’t want my private body masked by something it is not and never will be. But thanks for a great video, because we are all so different and what a joy that is.
What about acid reflux? I read that you shouldn't wear shape wear or a corset since it may cause the acid to travel up to your esophagus.
I love corsets. 😍

I wished i would have searched for tbis information when i had my babies, i tried to wear a corset type wrap but i couldn't find one to fit me.
I have wanted a corset for years but can't afford a good quality one and I'm not sure I have the confidence or patience to make my own.
They take the weight from our breasts solely off of our shoulders. It also behaves as a kind of back and abdomen brace. That cannot be a mistake that there is pain relief. It actually makes complete sense. They certainly look much more comfy than “spanx” 😬
Loved this! Where are you finding those undershirts for your corset. Like at 7:25. What are they called? I’d love to find them too
They're called shifts or chemises usually
Thank you, Katherine! Extremely informative. On that cautious side, do you think a corset is not that suitable for menopausal and older women where the pelvic floor will have a natural tendency to weaken? Otherwise, all the benefits seem to fit older women's needs so well.
If you are unsure, it would be wise to consult with a pelvic floor PT. Most people could benefit from some pelvic floor PT (simple exercise to do at home) If and when everything looks good, corsets would definitely be great to try!
@@KatherineSewing Thank you. That's my point... with age, every pelvic floor gets compromised to some degree.
Any corset recommendations for purchase, for those of us who don't sew?
My question too 🙂
Some women get breast reductions because of the weight issue, not appearance necessarily. The weight cn cause back pain headaches etc.
Yes, I agree, and am happy for anyone who finds improvement that route. The good thing about corsets is they can help support the weight a lot more comfortably than a bra (ie. not on the shoulders).
