i have a bad experience with jbraid x8, after 2 months of fishing in salt, it snaps so easily even in casting and setting the hook, also the waxy coating that makes the line stiff - not a really big fan of it. but kastking super power braid on the other hand, i must say hands down for the quality you get from the price you pay, have a white 6lbs spooled in my ultralight setup for rock fishing targeting small to medium sized snappers and groupers yanking them out of the rocks for about almost 3 years now, haven't respooled even once, how 'bout that! though i agree with you about those wind knots and i think thats the only downside i get so far, cheers ish! nice review and please do a fishing video already using your fuego lt! ive been waiting for your experience about it! peace!
Ish With Fish I have always use fireline , although their nano fil version had let me down a few times , it can cast farther and smoother , but let a pike or toothy fish and bam there goes your lure
*Have used the braided line for several years **enjoyable.fishing** recommend both for salmon in the summer as well as walleye through the ice. Can’t beat it for the price!*
this is a great video. i wish more people created this style of informative content. clear explanations, not to short, not too long, obviously not pushing an agenda, results are supported with actually descriptions: texture, wear, rating confirmation, etc. thank you!
This folds up relatively small and extends out to a good length. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxphFK7ETiDP5G4IGsNcg7vbASDp_YfDpI I would warn that while it folds down to a convenient size, it's still a bit too large to fit into my tacklebox, which I think is a pretty "normal" size. I guess a hardcore fisherman might have a hardcore box that's larger than mine, but for the typical once-a-year fisherman like me, it will have to be carried outside the box.
Thank you for this refreshing video. So many ''unboxings'' and ''reviews'' of cheap gear on YT it makes my head spin. As much as I think Kastking is much (much much) better at marketing than developing gear (read choosing from an OEM catalog), I also, like their braid. I used their Super Power, Fortis and Mega 8 mostly for surf fishing. I prefer Mega 8 for the smoothness (less noisy, further distance?). But the last spools I ordered it seems like the diameter of the line was different from the last order... The diameter itself is not as advertised. I measured 0.42mm for the 30 lbs zombie green advertised at 0.28mm. I could skwish it down to 0.33mm. But it's a strong line. Bought Seaknight Monster W8, diameter is thinner than Casting Mega 8 but still thicker than advertised. Have not tested it yet... Looking forward to your vids if you manage to test the 30lbs. Cheers! Keep up the good work.
My favorite: The Godline! Especially the 8 strands braided line! Can't beat it for overall smoothness, suppleness, strength, castability, and affordability! Trust me, I have used most of the most expensive brand names out there!
Ive always used spider wire stealth braid. Started using field and stream 15lb braid. For $16 and 300yds. I prefer it over spider wire. Spools wonderful, not spongy, resistant to abrasions and color does not fade. Field and stream is def my #1 go to for braided line.
*This fishing line is very smooth and strong it casts very smooth and it is very sensitive due to very little stretch. It is as good or better that higher priced brands, i definitely reccomend all fishermen/woman to try it.*
kastking braid is my favorite braid to use ive caught stripers, salmon, leopard sharks and my personal best batray is 100+ lbs with 40lb kastking superpower and plus its cheap
Nice video. Bought KastKing superpower a few weeks ago(before watching this), had used powerpro exclusively until now, found kastking to be a little louder through the guides but over all just fine for bottom jigging as you stated here. Also bought a kastking saltwater version tackle bag, happy with it too.
NP. Have you ever had chance to use Daiwa Samurai braid? Not sure it's even available still, never see ads for it. Different type of braid, crazy smooth, but very expensive.
no not yet, i hear it's smooth and crazy thin tho. tbh i lean towards thicker line because they're less prone to wind knots. for my purposes, j braid has been good enough.
Just tested break strength on kasking super power braid (20lb/9kg) on my channel. line broke on average at 7.4Kg/16.2lb..powerPro spectra was 18.9lb/8.6Kg..at $9.99/327yds of Kastking...its excellent value and performance for the money.
hey man, found your video extremely informative. I have used the following lines: 832, slick 8, powerpro & kastking. I personally am not a fan of 832 as i've seen my knots slip and that hasn't happened at all with the other lines. however, maybe it was the random spool i got that didn't match up since i know and see so many others love it. maybe i'll give it another try in the future. powerpro & slick 8 are an easy and safe choice of quality/dependability for me. kastking...i'm so impressed with this line, just recently i landed my pb 40lb striper on 30lb braid w/kastkings 30lb flouro (no longer available) and it had ZERO issues. i just recently ordered from j-braid to spool up my seigler sg & penn slammer for an upcoming trip to Panama and your review gave me even more peace of mind. Also thanks for your trip on the Godline...I'll be sure to steer clear of it. Seems KastKing is the way to go if you're trying to save a buck, also their customer service is really good as i did have a small issue with one of their spools. i ended sending it back and they replaced it with a brand new spool. can't complain about that! Thanks again and Tight Lines!
LTTP on this video but thanks for putting it together! 95% of my fishing is off the rocks so I'm normally only spooling my reels with 80lb braid and your comparisons here are helpful for anyone tired of hunting for rockfish or cabs and constantly losing gear. I primarily have been using Piscifun Lunker braid and SeaKnight W8 more recently; I think for me Lunker has been more consistent in holding its strength whereas the W8 breaks off when I really think it shouldn't, but other than that everything you said about these brands was spot-on.
Haha I think you’re just fine! I only run that heavy in order to haul fish up cliffs without breaking off as well as cutting through vegetation. 80lb braid will saw through kelp beds like butter.
My favorite braid is Daiwa hands down! For big Blue fin tuna you can't beat it! That all I use after using Power Pro my knots were slipping and I didn't like that it had a waxy feel also didn't like that I lost fish when tying Mono to braid for a top shot! Now that All I use is Daiwa best that I ever had, I knock them dead with this line.
Good afternoon, small question... Have you check the diameter of the braid with what the manufacturer is writing on the package? You can have big surprises.. Like 0.22mm declared and the true diameter. 0.3mmm
I haven't used the 4 strand Godline so I wouldn't know if your assessment is accurate! But you need to try their 8 strand braided line and come back with another review! An honest review and tell us what you think!
Thank you for this useful video , it’s first time to me start casting and i used diawa jx8 but i get some wind knots.. and i want to buy cheap braid line to learn then use diawa so which one you prefer to me to start casting without make wind knots ??
Good video. I've liked last king line. Thanks for actually trying all of them out. I swear over half of the reviews are by people who have never tried them
Daiwa j braid is my all time favorite. Kastking powerpro is ok but I've found that in spinning gear it is sticky or it just digs into itself. I had a horrible time float fishing with it and I notice it doesn't cast as far when tossing spoons and hardbaits. And yes it bleeds super easily
I got a good deal on KastKing SuperPower 30lb and it's decent. What I don't care for is the resistance and noise when reeling it in.The only other braid I can compare it to is some Mustad also 30lb test I got at Walmart (not sure the model but it was dark green). The Mustad seemed possibly a bit weaker but was smoother reeling it in,it seemed to resist less. Both bleed color, not an issue for me personally.
Ish, what is a decent cost effective braid for fishing for river stripers up to about ten pounds? Medium heavy action rods. Mostly fishing with jigs and swim baits.15 pound test good? Would 20 be better?
Man I really enjoyed this video. I'd love for you to do like a major aliexpress braid review. I bought the sea knight max power 2 for $4 for 300m its actually pretty good after you break it in but I'm not testing it like you. The 30lb lifted 15lb of weights but broke when I slightly bounced it. Apparently when you knot a line that cuts the strength.
I got a spool of the god line.. This stuff nests constantly when none of my other line does that in my baitcasters. It also breaks and it IS loud. Glad to see I'm not the only one. Saved me from giving it a third shot as it is cheap but damn.. I'll spend a little more.
I got 1000yds 40lb 8 strand for $15 from a company calped mounchain so im waiting for it to come in.. Has 4.5 stars but the largest complaint is bleeding colors
@@ishwithfish I personally haven't had any issues. I have been using the X8 40lb newer stuff and the old version of the 65lb and it's been great for about a year so far. *knocks on wood*
I'm a big fan of the 8 strand beyond braid. Excellent braid for the money. Power pro and j braid imo are still at the very top in quality, but if your budget minded like I am I've been very very pleased with the beyond braid brand.
Kastking has been my favorite budget friendly line for years it lasts longer than most name brand lines and is one of few lines that comes in pink. In my opinion Jerry Brown is the best braid in existence and fused lines like fire line are at the bottom of the list power pro is better in reputation than function
in my experience shimano power pro and kariki get wind knotws way easyier than fire line. i find that 4 - 10lb fire line is the best light braid and j braid is better for 15lb up
You mention kastking and j braid do very good on surf fishing, bottom vertical jigging..... Are they also good for salmon steelhead bobber, spinner, drift.... fishing?
Hello have you heard about/used Hercules 4 strand pe braid before? Would be great to see you review it in 20lb I'm really interested in green/camo colours! I know of other channels that our a fan of it! Looking on amazon the price seems really good!
I see you have mostly smaller sized spools. I tend to get the 300m or larger. Get the monster spools as after all not like you are only going to use it just once. Also if a Huge spool can still get use out of remaining line on spool, same goes for mono as well. Nice video BTW- once again.
Thanks for the review! I've wondered about those lines. I've been using 50 lb Spiderwire from Walmart for almost 2yrs. $15 for 300 yards. Saltwater, very little bleeding, no problems
I have been using the Spiderwire EZ Braid 20lb on all my bass rods for about 3 years now. What I really like is that it is a coated braid, therefore very smooth. It casts really well is very quiet and gives minimal where on rod eyes.
Hi, thanks for the video! I need to buy a braid for tuna spinning for my Daiwa Saltist 8000. I need a PE6 80lbs and I have to choose between Jbraid x8 79lbs (0.35) and Power Pro x8 84lbs (0.41). Which one would you choose?
One question even though the majority of these braids are below the standard required are they better than the non braid equivalent for children’s rigs. I favour spiderwire braid
tbh i wouldn't put any braid on a kid's setup, i think the stress of braid would break most, except a dock demon. i just leave the crappy mono and call it a day lol
Ish, I just got to use my new rig I put together for Xmas as my second rod and reel for crab snaring. Being color blind I decided to get a bright yellow, a color I see well. I went with an Amazon Hercules 40 pound 4X. I have no words {{Printable}} for what total crap this line is!!! Three casts with three snares sailing off into the salty sea!!! I make my own snares so it wasn't a big expense but if I would have bought them at the tackle shop those three casts would have cost me $45.00. Today I went back to the J-Braid X-4 50 pound that I have been using on both my Ling cod rigs and my other crab rig. I have never had a break off of snare or fish with the J-Braid. My question to you is: how much difference is there between the X4 and X8 J-Braid?? Would the X8 be a better choice when I reline?? In the meantime I now have 1000 yards of nice yellow 40 pound backing.
@@ishwithfish Thanks, that helps a lot. So far all I have tried was Cod fishing and snaring. I was a serious Duck hunter but moved to Vegas for 9 years then moved back to Ca. There is no more duck migration past Sacramento so my old partner has gotten me into ocean fishing so I'm just trying to learn. I'll have a boat ready for next season.
sup nick! weld spot? tbh i'm not sure what i'm looking for. the spool itself looks partially melted in the center cause i use a drill to strip this garbage line off my reel lol
@@ishwithfish you may have to rewind a few secs but there looks to be a dark green spot on the underside of the spool. Those I've seen as welds splices or pigment globs in some braids
@@ishwithfish I've seen it before. I've also seen plenty of pigment blobs. And lumps. That finatic pro video I put out when I took that line off I found some more lumps /bubbles / blow outs. Power pro back in the day had issues with that.
I've been using Reaction Tackle's braid for about 3 seasons now. Is it PowerPro? No, but it's like 1/3 - 1/2 the price and 9 of my reels are still spooled up with the OG braid for the past 3 years. Pretty good stuff for the money.
@@stevemorris8545 "is it power pro? no, but it's half the price" Your words mate, response was to that Average meaning pretty meh comparative to braids i have used
The best value line is Spiderwire EZ Braid. 14$ for 300 yards super smooth holds knots incredibly well! As for my testing it's casted 10 to 15 yards farther then the best braids on the market. I can literally cast into the wind without wind knots. Best stuff on the market period for cheap line no comparison!!!
@@ishwithfish My 2 rolls are from ebay ($20 for 2x110yd). My reel is spinning, and fish in a range 10 - 30lb. Also, my application does not require long cast, rather very light setup weight (sometimes using even 10lb mono main line is very difficult, memory and stiffness are huge factors). On a price factor: On my reel, I can use only half a roll 14 lb, the rest is 10 lb mono backing. Backing should be strong, but limpness is not a big factor: Big Game works great here.
If you want cheap decent braid berkley big game braid is probably your best bet it’s about $15 for 300 yards Sufix pro mix would be my second choice for budget I definitely think power pro is the best of all of them casting wise and strength wise
Hello just seeing this video today. Looking into getting braid line for my catfish rods. Just wondering what you would recommend for big catfish? Thanks man!
hey man, to play it safe just go with powerpro. its a bit more than jbraid but imo its the most dependable and thin diameter. catch a monster and you'll feel confident in your line. Jbraid second place if you want to save a few bucks👍🏼
Haven't found a braid I like. Old fashioned I guess. I do use it. After trying several brands I decided on KastKing. I also like Suffix. More expensive though.
I just bought some 80lb to rig up a planer rod for trolling. I have the rig made but I haven't been able to get out and use it yet. I'll be doing a review on it as soon as I get a couple of days pulling some lures with it.
J braid is Good for casting and you can spool much more on your reel. but for abbreviation its much more prone. Actually all of the braids. thats why i buy cheaper braid with same strength and lot cheaper.
Hi i just watched your video. I have to say I used the power pro regular, the suffix 832, Berkley fireline, and tried a brand I can't remember the name of that I got my fiance for like 8 bucks. My most favorite line out of the ones I listed is power pro. That is my go to braid of all time. I love the knot strangth and it is strong as hell. I could pull in a Buick with it if my rod didn't break lol. I do like the fireline have had anything wrong with it but just feels brittle to me. I thought the 832 was trash and I thought the braid I got for my fiance was trash too. The 832 just barried it's self in my spool and couldn't get it out I ended up having to cut it out which ended up scratching my spool on my reel. Plus didn't like how it tied. I do wanna try Pline's braid they have out. I tried their tactical florocarbon and loved it so far but did only use it once right before the season was over. But had a lot better experience with their floro compared to a couple of others ive tried. But so far for braid my all time favorite is power pro original.
Fire line has worked for me but it's pricier. I also like the seaknight 8 strand, and Hercules 8 but it breaks at about 80 percent of rating with knots. My 4000 reel hates J Braid but the 6000 is bueno.
@@twillis1986 which one broke? I love my suffix but i use my j braid morr for just casting Pacific technics. But youre reviews ate not on point with what some other more experienced reviewers they have way different opinions than you.
Kastking has some very good reels for the price! Try Kastking kestrel elite spinning reel for ultra light fishing or valiant eagle baitcaster for bfs fishing it is pretty good and i catched a 52cm perch on the valiant eagle and 50cm on kestrel spinning! Also the roundness of a line does not determine if the line is good if you fish around rocks or vegetation you want a rougher 4x braid so it cuts true vegans and is abrassion resistant around rocks
(spoiler alert) my all time favorite braid is Daiwa J-Braid X8. what's yours? any other cheap dependable braids i should try?
Ish With Fish I've always used kastking braid ,now I feel like trying that Daiwa seems legit coming from you as a fishermen!
You gotta try the Daiwa j braid 8x grand i made the switch over from powerpro to it.

Jbraid x8 is quite cheap.

SeaKnight W8. I have used that for 2 years. Works great!

I tested, then stocked up on Jbraid, it's the best all around value. Farthest casting for super ultralight is nanofill
I like Spiderwire stealth 8 braid. It's so popular that my tackle shop is always out of the most popular variants.

I've used kast king on green for striped bass LI with decent results from surf. It's not great but not bad.
I switched from power pro to godline because I was experiencing less breaks! And it does great for abrasion resistance. I personally enjoy godline.
interesting, i heard the recent generation of godline works much better than the sample i used.
@@ishwithfish I personally haven't had any issues. I have been using the X8 40lb newer stuff and the old version of the 65lb and it's been great for about a year so far. *knocks on wood*
@@ishwithfish could do a Salt Strong style test of the different versions. Should be pretty easy to test
Try seaguar smackdown it's some of the best and so round. Also try suffix 832. That stuff is so strong and round too.
I'm a big fan of the 8 strand beyond braid. Excellent braid for the money. Power pro and j braid imo are still at the very top in quality, but if your budget minded like I am I've been very very pleased with the beyond braid brand.
Beyond braid and Hercules are one in the same. Can save even more money with Hercules.
Kastking has been my favorite budget friendly line for years it lasts longer than most name brand lines and is one of few lines that comes in pink. In my opinion Jerry Brown is the best braid in existence and fused lines like fire line are at the bottom of the list power pro is better in reputation than function
great feedback thx. all the sturgeon charters in my area use jerry brown, must be good stuff.
in my experience shimano power pro and kariki get wind knotws way easyier than fire line. i find that 4 - 10lb fire line is the best light braid and j braid is better for 15lb up
I’m thinking about Using braid. Interesting thanks.
Jerry Brown line one and Izorline are my go to for spectra.
Jerry Brown number one choice for sturgeon guys in my area👍🏼
Sadly, I can't seem to find the KastKing SuperPower in white anymore.
Brian Summa Probably I bought the last 40 lb line :)
Betweeen the seaknight monster w8 and the daiwa j-braid x4 which would you choose for the same price?
j-braid. for 4 strand its pretty round, smooth, and reliable. not that w8 is bad, but i have 10x the hours on j with no issues.
You mention kastking and j braid do very good on surf fishing, bottom vertical jigging..... Are they also good for salmon steelhead bobber, spinner, drift.... fishing?
its probably fine for that, but for salmonoids i think the preferred line is mono or copolymer - the stretch helps keep the barbless hook pinned.
I like the godline 8 strain pink 65lbs test. This stuff feels silky smooth. I don’t know what you mean about chainsaw.
Thx for the feedback. I was testing their lower poundage v1 x4 vs your 65 x8, big difference👍
ser how mach the 300 mtrs 6paonz of line
Which one would you choose?
thx for watching! although it's more pricey, i really like powerpro, it's very durable and i think has better knot strength than jbraid. go with pp👍🏼
@@ishwithfish thought jbraidx8 was your all time fav?
In the meantime I now have 1000 yards of nice yellow 40 pound backing.
i think the 4x is good enough for snaring and jigging, but for finesse stuff like lures the smoothness of the 8x best.
What do you rate piscifun storm reel, is it a good for saltwater
tbh im not sure, never tried that reel🤔
Hey brotha!!! great breakdown!! At 15:09 is that a weld spot on the line that you can see through the spool?
sup nick! weld spot? tbh i'm not sure what i'm looking for. the spool itself looks partially melted in the center cause i use a drill to strip this garbage line off my reel lol
@@ishwithfish you may have to rewind a few secs but there looks to be a dark green spot on the underside of the spool. Those I've seen as welds splices or pigment globs in some braids
really? weld splices in the middle of a spool of line? that's so shady, lemme check again.
Power pro is average lol
@@Notinserviceij so what else do you use as a benchmark for an industry standard other than the "average"?
@@stevemorris8545 "is it power pro? no, but it's half the price"
Your words mate, response was to that
Average meaning pretty meh comparative to braids i have used
The best value line is Spiderwire EZ Braid. 14$ for 300 yards super smooth holds knots incredibly well! As for my testing it's casted 10 to 15 yards farther then the best braids on the market. I can literally cast into the wind without wind knots. Best stuff on the market period for cheap line no comparison!!!
Suffix 832 smoothest most quiet braid I've ever used
Yup that stuff is legit! Pretty costly but you get what you pay for!
@@jlima37yt47 I buy the big spools off Amazon or bass pro when’s they’re on 1 15lb 1 20/30lb and 1 50lb
Great review, TNX!
Would be interesting to have your opinion on Berkley Nanofil.
thx! that stuff's pretty pricey, but if i find a good deal i'll give it a shot, thx for the recommendation.
On a price factor:
On my reel, I can use only half a roll 14 lb, the rest is 10 lb mono backing.
Backing should be strong, but limpness is not a big factor: Big Game works great here.
great tips, thx!
Just recently respooled my spiderwire after 15 yrs with power pro.
You'll be back to powerpro
If you want cheap decent braid berkley big game braid is probably your best bet it’s about $15 for 300 yards
Sufix pro mix would be my second choice for budget
I definitely think power pro is the best of all of them casting wise and strength wise
What are your thoughts on Diawa j braid vs Diawa j braid grand?
both great braids for the money👍🏼
Ish With Fish ok
Piscifun Lunker or Runcl powerbraid? What is best?
could be the same stuff, but Runcl is ok. KastKing has better braid👌🏽
Trilene braid is what I've found to work best for me. Very strong and I very rarely get wind knots.
Haven't found a braid I like. Old fashioned I guess. I do use it. After trying several brands I decided on KastKing. I also like Suffix. More expensive though.
thx for the feedback👍
Hi, any test of seaknight w8 100lb?
50 pound power pro. My go to braid.
Can the "Kastking Super Power Braid" in 10lb test be used in catching 7lb large mouth bass?
Dan Druff yes sir but i would prefer 15 -30 pound braid for bass depending on the lures your fishing
Shadock braid is pretty awesome
Like your review if you get the chance should check out Saratoga braid been using it for awhile now seems very good to me and cheap
Is kastking bleeding on with ebay potentially fake line? Does it happen with store bought too?
KastKing sent me their line directly, so if it bleeds excessively, it's on them.
I would like to see you review Reaction Tackle braid I found it on Amazon seems to have great reviews at about 1\3 the price of powerpro.
cool, thx for the suggestion, i'll check it out.
Power Pro moss green, 30lb fresh water, 40lb and 80lb salt water. Last for years.
agreed, great stuff👍🏼
But so far for braid my all time favorite is power pro original.
great feedback, thx!
@@ishwithfish I subscribed btw
what about Hybrid Braids? and the flat Braids?
Well the Berkley Fireline is a hybrid braid
Godline s is my favorite line
Fire line has worked for me but it's pricier. I also like the seaknight 8 strand, and Hercules 8 but it breaks at about 80 percent of rating with knots. My 4000 reel hates J Braid but the 6000 is bueno.
I use both J-braid x8 and sufix 832, but for me the sufix 832 is the best,
I agree. I love suffix 832 and the j braid. I don't think eather is better there just a tad different.
@@danielbeavers8701 i just watched a static weight test on 50lb sufix 832 both wet and dry broke at 30 lbs
KastKing is actually not too bad of a brand, they have some very nice rods and reels for rock-bottom prices
Yeah i just got their Spartacus plus reel
Ish, is there any good places 2 hr's from Sacramento that are good for rock fishing?
sorry bro, there's a reason i never feature shore-based rock fishing ... its cause i suck at it and rarely catch anything😂
@@ishwithfish Gotta keep doing it to get better :) I wanna start this summer, spend 5-6 days up at the coast fishing the tides!
right on, gl and tight lines!
Which is the best braid bro
just get daiwa j-braid or powerpro, best bang for your buck👍🏼
