    Gene,
    I hope the community of followers who take the time to watch your videos, understand and appreciate the time and attention it takes to figure out and wire up a PID unit and to put it in a video which is spot on in terms of instruction and information; I certainly do. I'm not a chatty guy, but I think it's time for a few kudos. You could have simply re-uploaded your old video on this DIY Plates and put your feet up at home or spent time with your family, but instead you took your time and broke the whole process down into such tiny bites even a child could eat it. In the past you've shared your successes both in your grows and with PLC, but you're also always willing to share your failures, whether it be a particular area one of your lights may not do so well in or if you have root aphids, you have the balls and respect to tell us, the anonymous (for the most part) viewer. Your willingness to share the Jack's feed line and in doing so, sharing exactly how you use it was huge for me and I'm pretty certain a lot of people here. My point simply is you're the kind of person I'd want on my team, the kind of person I'd want to work beside, the kind of person I could (and have at this point) take advice from and know I'm not being BS'd. Kudos to you my friend; you're a pretty respectable man in my book. Thanks for all you do!

    Being a jacketed k type thermocouple, I'd recommend rolling a little ball of copper wire and dropping it in the hole with a good amount of thermal paste, that way the probe squishes up against the ball and plates ensuring direct contact readings as its design intends, This will mitigate that 5 degree offset you have there :)
    I would also highly recommend you add a fuse holder on the Phase or "hot" mains line coming in, before the power switch and install a 3 or 4 Amp fast blow fuse, this will save your house burning down if anything fails short. To get the device up to commercial electrical safety standards I'd also recommend making any Earth wires a little longer than the rest so that they are the last to rip off should any undue physical force be applied to any cords, as well as replacing those wago connectors with "acorns" (BP connectors) as the wago are known to fail and are rather dangerous when used in mains rated appliances.. Excellent video with some really good info! Be safe folks! :)

    I built it and it's working now. For anyone else who knows nothing about electronics: The first power cable you see at 18:50 should only have the female end stripped. Leave the three prongs intact. The power cable you see at 20:07 is a separate cable and you need to strip both the male and female end so that the wires are sticking out of both ends.

      Yes USD, just under $300.00 bucks, I got everything that Gene has listed in the description section, and put it together exactly the way he’s doing it here, it works really well, my favorite thing to do is make bubble hash and press that at super low temps and get this buttery rosin. Yum

    • @stevieg4201
      @stevieg4201 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’d like to add, This press build, is an awesome build guys, I’ve been looking at some basic pre-made presses on line that are about the same as this one, and it almost seems that we can build this one, and customize it to your likeness, for at least half of what a pre-made press costs, sometimes a lot more than half. By building your own, also gives you the benefit of understanding all the components and what they do, if you ever have an issue/problem, you can fix it yourself. I ordered a couple extra heating elements just in case, I mounted the top plate a little different because it seemed a little slicker to me. It’s worth the time it takes to do. Good luck to the folks that build one. 😎

    Interesting side note: PID controllers are how racing and freestyle FPV (with goggles) drones are controlled and how they react to every little movement you make and the environment. Imagine teaching it to balance on the tip of a pencil. Now factor how much each little change to those PID values affects movement and reactions in something as fluid as air. It's a brilliant mind game and the end reward can mean flying like a bird in something that feels so natural as if it's wired straight to your brain. If you ever see someone with goggles on go have a chat. 4:20 flying is bliss.

    Got into growing a little over a year ago. Ive become a bit of a snob/connoisseur. I’m seeking cleaner highs, better flavor. Ordered some bubble bags, thinking about making hash rosin. I’ve got tons of extra 3d printing hardware which I can use/modify for creating this. I just need to get some aluminum blocks.

    Great video, thanks for your time and everything you do....Looking at it...if i wanted to go a step further i could just get a second pid and have control over each plate right..

    I use the pid controller for a couple different things so i have the power going out from the controller wired into a plug strip. every device i use it for gets wired into a plug and has its own thermocouple, the plug strip has 1 outlet that bypassed the controller so i can have something plugged in with constant power as well
