    This is the exact viewpoint that shows that football is more like chess than mindless running and hitting the ball.

    im italian, and our national team has a formidable defense and goalkeeper, and they will usually hold back and then score all the last minute goals

      @Alfa&Omega 00000 it's true, because in this match Italy scored at last minute (90+3), have you remembered this match ?
      it's Italy v Belgium in Euro 2016 by the way, and final score is Italy 2 - 0 Belgium

    Except, of course, that one pass (at 0:16) opened up the possibility (at 0:18) to carve open the defence with a short, reverse pass forwards with the outside of the boot to the attacking midfielder who has just wandered in between the lines of the midfield and the defence. A more creative player might have spotted that opportunity.

    I played this brainless basic unbreakable defense tactic back in my school time. We did this at the early game not just only to defend but to probe our opponents as well to see what tricks they have. Only then, our couch will switch the tactic as soon he saw the opponent's flaw.

    The Italians were successful with a defensive strategy, because the ball speed and ball circulation from the opponent was mostly too low to disrupt their defensive system. The Italians could easily reposition.

    • @matteoconti2195
      @matteoconti2195 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The passes were low because italy left no room for short exchange. And, with so many opponents concentrated togheter, a risky pass could have caused a deadly counterattack.
      Slowing down the opponent pace, causing it to pull over more players to break the defence and the counter in open spaces is part of the ideology of italian defence.

      @@matteo.grossi Nah... C'mon... Italy had the same players in both competitions. Only the coach was different. Italy plays this way since when dinosaurs walked on Earth. In Euro 2016 Italy won against Belgium, Sweden and a decadent Spain. Belgium is like a dolphin. Lives underwater, sometimes shows his face, make some funny thing and then vanishes again. There is no "unstoppable"(thanks) Italy defensive system when it stops during the competitions. LOL And worst: defensive system without offensive system won't work forever, you know?

    • @mcbaltz
      @mcbaltz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matteo.grossi Big names of Italy were there (Buffon, Bonucci, Candreva, Barzagali, Chiellini, EL Shaarawy, Insigne, De Rossi, Verratti, Immobile (worst name for a football player, right? LOL)...
      Nope. Decadent Spain because of what they did after their time of glory. 0x3 against Brasil in 2013, 1x5 against Netherlands, 0x2 against Chile and out of Round of 16 in 2014 World Cup (Italy out too, btw)
      So, i say you can't call it unstoppable when you don't reach at least the final...
      But you're right about the decision agains Germany. There's no shame on that. Tough game indeed.
      Oh! There is no penalty kicks lottery. It's all about strong mind, stamina and ability.
