And yes a good giggle out of it is way better than losing sleep I will try to remember that... And sharing it with us shows a lot. This is why we love you so much. I really love your well water system this fascinates me. I am a realtor and run into many situations as I sell mostly, well prefered country homes for many years and enjoy seeing other parts of Canada situations. Plus I was born in BC so miss it still. I was wondering where the cleaning water for the milk machine was going! Oops 😊 where do you usually dispose of it? It's such a treat to see and hear the animals, it's not often that I get to hear a cow moo or any of them crunching on their food. Last year I freeze-dried squash and I love adding it to spaghetti sauce! My husband doesn't like eating squash so putting it in soups and spaghetti is a way I can get him to eat it. Thanks for sharing your day on the farm with us.
I thought that was weird that it looked like the water went into the milk reservoir. Oh well, I love that you can laugh it off! The cabin is coming right along. It seems that it would take away the rustic cabin feel if there was a bathroom in it, but I understand no wanting to have visitors coming into the house. What about an outside shower with rain catchment and use a compost toilet or the outhouse? It seems dealing with the waste would be a big project, would you have to have a separate septic system? That was so sweet seeing all the animals, especially the cows and the bunnies. My 2 year old grandson watched with me and enjoyed it so much.
Hi Chelsea!! The small cabin is really coming along beautifully 😁 I am curious, though, if putting the ceiling under the loft might make it seem so much more enclosed and shorter. I'm wonder if painting it white or something might be better. You'll be losing like 6 inches of what would make it feel taller underneath 🤔 Also, if you DO end up putting in a bathroom, I know Simple living Alaska uses a hot water heater that needs no outside power. Just the propane tank and like a D size Battery 👍 I'm happy for you about the grass clippings!! Do you have a pile of them off to the side just rotting for future use? It's fantastic as a fertilizer. I've heard that if you shred your zucchini and squash and then freeze dry them that it turns out really great for adding to sauces and such. That it reconstitutes really well. I had just had the thought when I saw the jars that you had not emptied milk ...and then you claimed it. It happens! Dan did a great job explaining what goes on with the well - so interesting. If you move the overflow pipe in the general direction of the old creek bed, it will find its way and clean out the bed for you. Meant to mention to you last video that for your herb bed by the greenhouse...if you cut open a mini bulk bag and lay it down under the bed it acts the same as landscape fabric. It allows water through as well. I ran it up the outside of the bed but should have gone higher of alternatively gone on the inside of the bed. I have done this on my beds to stop tree roots and quack grass coming up in the beds. Because you will have multiple cabins, maybe a separate bath house might be better. Alternatively or in additionally, maybe a small room for a composting toilet might be an idea. For handwashing inside the cabin, a water jug (filled from tap) on the edge of a basin would work. Good video!
No word of a lie, when you tossed the milking hoses in the wash mixture, I thought to myself, 'I guess you need to make sure its into a different bucket or have emptied your milk. I'm sure she already did that.' The twins were thrilled to see a bee update! 🐝

Composting toilet maybe an option for the cottage bathroom. They are becoming increasingly popular in the caravan/RV industry here in Australia.

Hey Chelsea, why only R14 in the walls? R20 is recommended and will keep it cooler in the summer.
Our walls are 2x4 in the cabin and R20 is designed for 2x6 walls - we will likely do the R20 in the attic though.
