I live in Canada and haven’t celebrated Holi since almost 4 years now. Glad you went all-in. It’s literally one of the best festivals of India where you can throw water and colours to a random stranger walking on the street and all you get back is a smile. Hope you enjoy your trip guys. PS - You don’t need to be formal when in India. They wouldn’t mind if you walk in to their house without asking for permission. It’s quite normal. Completely opp than the West lol

Do come to Southern part of India . The states of Karnataka , Tamil Nadu , Kerala . U will get see a lot of heritage sites more than 1000s of years old . Hiring a local guide is the best advice . Many of these historical sites are underrated and not so popular on internet . Only the local guides can give u the best tour .
And the advantage is , people here know English very well and Hindi is not a requirement at all . More than 2000-3000 year old i.e. Ancient India can be seen only in Southern Part of India

Golden rules during holi - always wear caps or cover your heads and wear glasses for the eyes. Rest anything & everything is ok. Just to be safe because not everyone will play fair on this day. Also some cheap products can be harmful to your eyes and hair, not everyone buys expensive herbal or branded standard products and in a crowd you can't differenciate them.
