  • The e46 M3 CSL replica has its first go on the rolling road in my ownership.. Does she deliver the hoped for figure or is it time for strip down rebuild or worse yet for sale?

    Its showing great torque! These engines don't make higher torque very easily. So great job!

      Thanks 👍 I’m confident the peak horse power will be higher on the next dyno run - compression tests results came back strong 😁

    I went there in September, my car made 354,2. karbonius box + remap.. There is definitely room for improvement in yours in the map, filters etcc. Nice vids keep it up!

      Fingers crossed, need to install the 4.1 ratio diff that’s sat in the garage so combined with a tailored calibration it would be great to see 350+bhp

    I have a standard E46 M3 and a standard E92 M3,I’ve read even when new these cars were not achieving BMW’s stated BHP.

      Sadly this does seem to be the case, standard on the e46 M3 seems to be 315-340bhp, luck of the draw!

    Love your car wish I could turn my 2000 328i to something similar to yours

      Anything’s possible if you put your mind to it 😊 wanted to build mine for years so it’s certainly not been an over night build

    My e46 m3 made 336 hp standard with paper air filter 280 flb torque and a quantum tune at Surrey rolling road it depends on the day also

      Good figure indeed! The more I've researched it the more I have discovered the stock air box does do a very good job for delivering performance but the noise the CSL air box makes is just bliss! Since this video I discovered two issues so along with a tailored calibration the old girl should see 340-350 BHP fingers crossed, shall get it back on Surrey Rolling road again to see back to back any potential gains

      Yeah that’s true it does make a great sound from the front end I found valve clearances air flow mass and fueling are important for making the power you want , tuning does help when the limiter is raised fueling is increased and Vanos valve timing is tweaked. Be good to do a comparison with the two, mines smg too with csl rev match of course

    neglecting that CSL air box symphony, should've filmed from the engine bay.

      I have so many videos of the intake on the channel I thought i would let people enjoy the exhaust (plus avoid a trip hazard in the Dyno cell at the front 😂)

    Does this calculate the drivetrain loss? Why not show a true wheel number?

    • @stoneautomotive
      @stoneautomotive  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, yes it makes a “typical” adjustment for drive train losses, in the UK we love a fly wheel figure & it’s what most manufactures quote.
      I’ve noticed many Americans prefer wheel horse power figure so will request this from the dyno operator in next time I take the e46 in for a run 👍

    • @KRBY555
      @KRBY555 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stoneautomotive What's the adjustment though? Surely it would be better to just quote the actual number measured? Down under it's all wheel too. I've seen M3 dyno days where they all put down 280-290 who - CSLs included

    • @stoneautomotive
      @stoneautomotive  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree, just how it is with majority of tuners/ dyno operators across the UK, at the end of the day there are so many variables that a dyno should only be seen as health check or comparison with modifications as so many get caught up with peak numbers it’s easy to over look the mid-range etc. Next time it’s back on the dyno dynamics I will get a wheel figure graph

    350hp with a fancy airbox and a clone ECU? that seems over ambitious or am I missing some info?

    • @stoneautomotive
      @stoneautomotive  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There have been CSL air box equipped cars at Surrey Rolling road which is a Dyno dynamics roller run 350bhp, I will point out this is flywheel not wheel horse power.

    330 whp is really decent for this car. Add 15% on and that's your power at the fly

      Tank Roberts this was flywheel hp, not wheel!

      Its decent crank but he didnt have remap done and it was done at 25 degrees....

  • @pereldh5741
    @pereldh5741 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Rolling road only shows the Wheel HP. You really have no idea what the engine power is, its all to do with power loss thru the drivetrain. Even gearbox oils etc have an effect

    • @gregdepot
      @gregdepot 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No idea is kind of extreme there is average losses like 15% for most FR cars, or testing new cars on a similar dyno for a base line, or a flywheel dyno etc.
      That said a dyno best suited for showing changes from the a baseline run

    • @puttitat2851
      @puttitat2851 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really true, you can measure rolldown resistance by putting it into neutral and letting go off the clutch - and then add the resistance to the measured power = crankshaft hp.

    • @pereldh5741
      @pereldh5741 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      puttitat2 True, didn’t look like they did that here tho. Which begs the question how they could be so accurate.

    • @puttitat2851
      @puttitat2851 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In short: They couldn't.
