I took the same route with my son years ago. It was amazing. However, my ankles were so sore afterwards. The cave floor is covered in rock and your ankles pivot with every step. The lava rocks are air filled and very light. It was such a memorable hike.
I did these caves a few years ago with a friend and my brother and dad. It looks a lot more difficult than I remember. It was really fun but a lot of exercise.
We're thinking of going here next week, but I'm dealing with a bummed knee and wanted to see just what to expect. Looks like the lower trail will be fine, but the upper is probably something for after I'm done with PT. Thanks so much for the video and helping visitors make plans ahead of time.
@rhov-anion You're most welcome. 'So glad our hike highlights of the trail helped in planning ahead and thank you for stopping by to watch our video. ❤️👍
My brother took me today. My first time, but his 3rd. We turned around at the point of the "meatball." It's tough walking with lots of rocky terrain. Still, very cool and highly recommend to anyone!
For sure, the Lower Tube should be no problem. It's just 3/4 mi of easy walking. If you want to try the Upper Tube, you might need to lift him up to scale up the 8 ft Lava Fall. The rest are numerous fun boulder scramblings. Just be safe, take it easy and bring bright headlamps. Guaranteed to be a fun and memorable experience! Have a blast with your son!
I did it as a boy scout plenty of times back in the day. Definitely a fun trip, bring water and extra batteries. We didn't have LED headlamps back then, just flashlights that took C batteries and managed just fine
After exploring Ape Caves, places close by you can check-out are the Lahar Viewpoint and Lava Canyon trail (5.4 mi round trip hike). Stop at Ape's Headquarters and get maps and infos. In our case, that 2.5 mi long lava tube took us ridiculously long hours after climbing over 27 boulder fields and of course the video filming in low headlamp light. After that, we just want to eat, lol. Have a fantastic exploration and hiking! Don't forget your flashlights. It's chilly and pitch-black!

Agreed! It was such a fun and memorable trip. This is one of our favorite adventures to bring guests from outer state. They always have a blast! ❤

Nice! I'm glad your brother took you to this fun and unique experience. We love to come back and visit the place again also. ❤❤
Interesting video. Looks like we like some only the same places.
Thanks Mark
Kids will have a blast ❤
That's for sure! We love this type of adventure, and we came back the second time! Have a great hike! ❤️❤️
Cool video.
Thank you so much! ❤❤
Sasquatch’s lived there!.
I know right? Now that would be really something! 😊
Beg to differ. Canadian and USA tribal elders
have enacted laws and employ police both
to maintain safer reproductive regions.
I've been wanting to take my ten year old son there. He's done some basic rock climbing and bouldering. Do you think he could do this?

Absolutely. I hiked to the upper exit and then entered the cave and worked back. A little easier but it was tricky finding the entry point.
Yes! My little brother went there with us, it was so much fun

I obtained permission to show USA 10 year old
boys 3 limestone caves within Canada. Do not
let their smaller size escape your eye and hand.

Amazing 🤩
Indeed, an amazing experience! Thank you so much Ruth! ❤❤
What else would you do after a few hours in the caves. We will be there for the day.

I found ape cave after watching exploring with josh’s video
I first entered such lava tubes assisting studies
of bat habitat and also urged steel gating to
protect them from people.
Tried camping within Ape Cave.
Evicted because that boom box
3-Corner Hat classic was too loud.
