  • The Red Summer 1919, an Instrumental Opera, unfolds across various acts and scenes. It begins with Soaritu, a tribesman, fleeing from slave hunters in an African jungle. He joins forces with Oanora, another tribesman, and they find refuge in a hidden cave. Pursued relentlessly, they encounter their tribal King and fellow Africans joining the chase. They are pursued by hunters and members of their own people involved in the slave trade. They reach an abandoned village, encounter a traumatized family, and face a confrontation with Captain Stern, a ruthless leader. The opera explores survival, unity, resilience, and freedom themes amid conflicts and allegiances.
In later acts, the story shifts to the aftermath of their escape, detailing their struggles in different historical contexts, such as World War I and post-emancipation America. The characters face challenges rooted in oppression, racism, and the pursuit of equality.
The opera's finale concludes with a Diviner emphasizing the importance of unity, justice, and breaking the cycle of prejudice to create a brighter future. It Features Vinnie Colaiuta, Mike Stern and Michael Brecker as central players.
