Awesome video, I've been consuming cinematography content for the last two weeks and this is the first time I've seen a black female creator, it makes it so much more accessible and inspiring to see. You also strike a balance between explaining the concepts and showing their application. Super helpful, please make more teaching videos like this if you get the chance :)
Oh my gosh! 9:18 I keep rewinding and staring at this shot. Love everything about it: the different textures, the patterns in the metal/iron, the mysterious look in those brick arches, how the sky and water complement each other, the glow and & simplicity of how the lights just escort your eyes off into the distance, and on and on. Mostly I can actually see myself there with a coffee and a pastry just staring off into the distance and enjoying the ambiance. You’re amazing! Thx! 🖼️
I LOVE THIS. This is so inspirational to me. It's been a goal of mine to include more **cinematic** **aesthetics** into my content. I do so much talking head content, but I want to go out in the wild more and share tips through more imagery and a change of scene. Saving this to rewatch again and again.
Hello I’m new hear my friend sent me this video. I told her I want to shoot better content. And here I am! I’m sooo excited from what I learned today. Thanks for sharing!! 🌃
one of the best vids ive seen on composition. this and studiobinder has me cozy and well informed right now lol. also you flexed mega with the nascar shirt
Thank you ! I am finding so many great DPs on TH-cam your work looks amazing and this video was inspiring and put together so clean and concise! I subbed and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
@@BrittneyJanae O wow, I didn't realize you started with photography. I began following you back when you just started posting on this channel. I've seen your growth and the amazing work you've been doing and am so proud of you! I started with photography as well. It's still my main medium by choice. I would love for you to make a video on the composition nuances between photography and video.
Wow thank you for this. I knew these concepts from photography but I loved seeing their application through your videos and your explanation made it less daunting to apply to film. ❤
Fantastic! Thank you for answering my life long question of “what is composition?” I’ve heard others talk about it but this was broken down very well for me!
Creating compelling art! Yes, I am a learner in creating with videos. This video was very informative, thank you for giving away your knowledge! I am now a new fan!
Thank you, I love this video!! thanks for breaking it down. I want to start creating content but actually take my time and produce quality content. Your video has help me understand things more further down!!
Thank you for the knowledge!!! This is going to be a big year for me. I can feel it. I really appreciate all the information 🙏🏽 best of wishes on your journey.
If you'd be the 18 year old who knew nothing about filmmaking and broke as well what are the ways you root for getting this and get started and what could be yours long term goal when you got to know about it a little
If I was 18 years old and didn’t know about filmmaking I would be on TH-cam everyday at least for a hour learning about filmmaking then taking out 3 hours daily to put what I learned into action. If you’re broke and can’t get a camera learn it all with your PHONE! Long term would be getting a camera I can grow to learn and create with. But I would learn lignting, camera settings and all of the essentials so that when I did get a camera I already know how to FILM
It's really nice to share videos like this. The leading lines are my absolute favorite to watch. I'm not very good at creating it myself but i really like it
Not Goin Lie, this video was very Helpful and made things very plane and simple! I also appreciate it because when searching for this type of content it’s typically made by men and I gotta say you were very thorough in the way that you articulated yourself. Your very appealing to watch! Something about your teaching style beautiful brown skin and warm tone/ Loving delivery did it for me ! Thank you💙
Thanks again, really cool to watch your journey, and looking forward to seeing your take on prioritising the shadows in your next set of compositions…👏🏾👏🏾🎥
@@BrittneyJanae ...I mean when making the unexposed areas of the scene its own character, giving depth, framing and texture which can be moody or threatening like the opening segment of 007 "Casino Royale" and LL Cool J's ""Mama Said Knock You Out"... or the shadows can convey being calm, thoughful and reflective, as seen in many instances throughout "Games of Thrones" - Looking forward to see what your take will be as you contine the journey.
Composition is so broad topic and I believe one way one way to get better with composition is by practicing while you learn how other people use composition in their works 💪 Thank you for this video good examples
Wow such a great video 🙏🏾. This really inspired me and I’m so excited to learn these techniques and become better. Thanks for sharing your art with us all.
🌅🌆🌁 fell in love with this idea when you started sharing your digital postcards on Instagram. Thanks for sharing. I need to go give some of these a try!
This is a beautiful video. I like your visual drawing of the lines. I shoot street photography in Vancouver, BC and want to get into filmmaking as well
🔥🔥🔥 I definitely would be a student if you taught anything dealing with filmmaking. Your message was clear, entertaining and backed up with wonderful visuals.
Great video, I always enjoy hearing about composition, it’s an important factor when following the rules of certain compositions as well as when one decides to bend or break the rules of composition ultimately creating their unique style. So many things can come from experimenting with different compositions
Thanks for sharing what you learned through personal experience, Brittney. I have been experimenting with video composition and use of natural lights to use in a cinematic personal vlog series on a separate channel. I feel the same as you about symmetry. By the way, I was blown away by your amazing thumbnail.
Love your videos! When I started becoming a still photographer 58 years ago I looked a a kazillion album covers. Later I bought a Hasselblad and started composing in a square. I also had a background in fine arts and a natural eye for balance, line, color, texture and light. That said, I’m curious about what camera mounted monitors you use. Being able to see what’s in the frame is so important.

She is so dope. She explains things so easy. Love a black creator!
The rule of third is universal in video as well as photos. Rule of third is great composition for talking space. Great tutorial❤

Your visuals are interesting. And also I can see from your raw footage that color grading plays a big part in the final product. Really good work !

Excellent insight and ideas. Would be awesome to know what settings you used on the camera to achieve the darker shots. 🖼Thanks for sharing!
My settings are usually the same. Shutter 1/50th, ISO 640 or 12,800 I usually have a ND on my lens. F stop 1.8
Yes! Absolutely love how you film those postcards!
"PICTURE EMOJI" , beautiful shots Brittney, I was a big fan of that symmetry example shot inside the museum
Thanks for the tips! Definitely going to use these in my videos 👍
