I wish they grinded them down instead of cutting straight through to preserve the size of it and getting a "nugget instead of a half cut, but i get it would take a long time.

I'd assume that they cut it because they're processing so much rock with little to no value in it. Grinding slowly through every single one simply isn't feasible if you're going through so many 'duds' with nothing of value in it, or opal of a far lower quality and value. Basically, by cutting them, they can evaluate more rocks, and thus increase their chance of finding opal in the first place.
They explained in another segment that aggressive grinding will cause the opal to disintegrate, so it just wouldn't be feasible to gradually grind each one down to determine if it was even of any value.
@@FutureSight666 XD except no. I kinda had that similar line of thinking about the Yowah nuts for a little while. The reason they don't lap them all on a diamond wheel is because until you get into it you don't even know if it contains opal at all or to what degree. It would literally drive you insane within an hour.
Its a gamble. Cut it and you know what value it has, but you lower it by cutting the opal. But if you dont cut it, you have no idea how big and clear it actually is
How much do you think it would take to grind those opals instead of cutting them in half? Someone said a week and someone said they would be worth 10x more
No choice, can't see the opal in those whole nuts without doing it, just like in the beginning when they found nothing in them, and people don't speculate on opals, it's all about known amounts.
couple reasons, the nuts are either going to be specimens or cut into jewellery. In both instances, cutting down the middle shows the most face for specimens and allows more backing for cutting into jewellery

HAHAHAHAH what I exactly thought which is why i clicked in this video xD it looks like an avocado on the thumbnail
looked like the colors of the one that was stole from me.
a million years old fossilized avocado, who knows? it looks just like avocado
avocado is over rated
That massive $50k one they cut in half was gorgeous. I'd love to make a large pendant and rings out of that.
I wish they grinded them down instead of cutting straight through to preserve the size of it and getting a "nugget instead of a half cut, but i get it would take a long time.
@@zeragaming4581 gotta value the labor, they would’ve been there for days just polishing minerals that had no value.

Big time congratulations. Thank you so much for sharing this video with us. Next best thing to being there.
Straight up if they didn’t cut all these in half and instead extract with grind stones this collection would be worth ten times the amount
grinding take way too much work tho

Wonder if there's ways to dissolve the soft rocks and not harm the opal 🤔🤔🤔
well.. you would only really get the pure ones then and no the patterned ones.. what would be quite a waste.. but i know what you mean
But you not open price on the shoppe? Because i want buy this one....please give me chance to buy this one...🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Why do they cut right through them? Wouldn't you try to keep the opal as big as possible?

Hard to determine if they're in fact opal any other way...
The feeling of finding a pocket like that pocket must be one of a kind..
will it be worth even more if it is not cut into half? very beautiful colour.
The host rock holds the opal together. If you are unlucky, when you grind the rock away it will also break the opal and make it fall apart.

I dont understand why you would cut each nut directly down the middle when thats where the opal would probably be.
couple reasons, the nuts are either going to be specimens or cut into jewellery. In both instances, cutting down the middle shows the most face for specimens and allows more backing for cutting into jewellery

Why are the stones cut in the middle though? Doesn't that severely devalue the opal since it's size is now only half of what it was before?
it increases the value

Instead of cutting it from the middle why not the top so you do less damage?

it wouldnt reveal the opal and you would be potentially throwing away rocks with opal in.
