Just did this after watching your video and I really have to say thanks. I considered doing the this years ago when I switched over to leds for everything else but only saw the videos where you had to pull the mirror. Took me 5min each side with no casualties your way. Thanks!
I agree, I watched others risk breaking their mirror and I knew there had to be a better way. I saw one video of a guy doing it this way but the quality was poor and dark so I figured I'd take the time and make one to help others out! Thanks for watching!
Great video Fast Lane Guy! Watching where you applied pressure to remove the top painted section gave me the confidence to attempt this mod. Everything went well, although a few times I had to hold my mouth just right, lol. As you said, take it slow and easy so as to not break any of the tabs. My 2015 4Runner Limited had a good amount of dust on the inside. I cleaned it up best I could with a toothbrush and air. I tested the new LED bulb before re-assembling - good thing as I had to switch the bulb around due to the polarity. A plastic trim tool proved useful in removing the lower black plastic section. My new LED puddle lights are so much brighter. Thanks much for this video, I liked and subbed!
I'm glad it helped you out! It just didn't make any sense to me to go pulling the mirror out when this is much easier. At the time, no one else had a clear, quality video of how to do it this way, which is why I took the time to make it.
Thanks for the vid. This mod definitely isn’t for the faint of heart. I swear the plastic piece that holds the puddle light has no rhyme or reason on how it goes back on. Glad it’s done with.
Thanks for your video. Just purchased 16 pieces LEDs and replaced everything but puddle lights, It's clear video but I don't feel confident enough myself to replace mines in.
Well seeing it's winter now, Im going to wait till warmer weather, better chance of not cracking plastic. LED spot there looks small, are we worried at all about heat and choice of LED that we purchase ? Thanks for this video !
I didn't take heat into account, these only come on for a minute or so when you unlock your 4runner and open the door. Once it's shut and the key is on these turn off. No problem for the video, I hope it helps!
@@fastlanecarcarellc3608 Right ! I think they might be only coming on at night too ? so the mirrors are not preheated by hot sunlight when they do ? Not sure. But yeah they dont stay on long so should not be an issue. Thx !
I wish you would've turned the lights off in your garage to demo how the lights look before/after or do one side only and then video each side to be able to see the difference between stock and your upgrade and then provide the info for the upgraded bulbs. Aside from that, good video. Since we're currently shelter in place due to Covid 19 and I just got the blacked out side markers i decided might as well upgrade the puddle light as well while i have everything apart. I've seen a couple other videos and their lights seem to be a bit much for my liking so after you tested yours it looked like your output was closer to what I would want and not overkill but would've loved to have seen a comparison with lights off.
I thought about it after the fact. To me the stock puddles were hardly visible. The LEDs actually put off some light, especially in a dark parking lot. As far as LEDs, these are just basic ones that came from superbrightleds.com I wouldn't over think them though, you don't need a really expensive bulb, depending on the style, a lot of times there is no noticeable difference between an expensive bulb and a cheap one. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching!
In RAV4 2019 I have paddle lights and 360 cam. in the side mirrors. Is procedure the same or the mirror cameras complicate/ change the paddle lights disassembly steps?
@@tannerharrell1993 Yeah I didn't think about it when I ordered all my other LED's so when I pulled the cover back off to see what it was I saw that and decided the same thing! lol
I'm not 100% sure, I did a quick search and did not find anything concrete, I would guess it is a 168 like most of the other lights around the vehicle. If I get some time, I'll pull the cover off and check.
Jammy Noun, I pulled the mirror cover back off today and did some investigating. The turn signal does not have a user serviceable bulb. It looks like if you needed to replace it, you would have to separate the clear plastic piece from its black plastic housing, which does come apart from the rest of the mirror assembly. I'm sorry I cant give you anymore information than that. I would assume that since its not a bulb you can easily replace they probably used an LED as a normal bulb would surely burn out in a few years. Just a guess though.
@X X the turn signal looks like it's own housing, it's not as simple as the puddle light bulb swap. This is probably why no one seems to have any info. You would probably be best to look at a parts schematic from Toyota.
Fucking genius! Everyone else has me taking out the mirror. I got the passenger, but the driver mirror reaaaaaally doesn't want to come off. Good looking out!

Much easier than the other videos I seen. Other remove the mirror and they look to fragile to remove. Excellent video.

Which year of 4runner is this? Looks kinda similar to the Harrier 2014-2019 series
It's a 2018 which is a 5th gen (2010-2024)
Any tips for 2011 side mirrors?
Unfortunately I've never worked on one so I can't really say. Good luck though if you try it!
What size LED bulb did you use?
I can't remember but superbrightleds.com has bulb guide that will tell you exactly what you need.

Unfortunately I have no clue, I've never had a rav4 to take a apart so I can't say for sure. Sorry.
What size is bulbs 💡
Go to superbrightleds.com they tell you what bulb you need for every light on the vehicle.
My wife has a 2022 sr5 and the mirrors don’t have lights at all
Maybe the sr5 premiums and up have them? Never looked into it. Really they should just be standard equipment in my opinion.
@@fastlanecarcarellc3608 maybe your right. My 2015 Tacoma sport has mirror lights but a sr5 2022 doesn’t 😂😂😂
What bulb is used for the turn signal light in the mirror?
168
I take that back, that's for the puddle light. I have no idea about the turn signal since it appears to be a sealed unit.
