0:58 cell depression at its finest
"Recognise that there is something wrong with themselves, and might admit it, and kill themselves (suicide)" -- this made me laugh helplessly especially with last minute study
Bro same 💀💀
I really appreciate all the hard work that you take to help other people understand, may god bless you
I really enjoyed this, it taught me lots about cancer and how it works. If you did an entire playlist on Cancer I would definitely watch it.
Bailey Macnaughton wonderful idea
BUT SERIOUSLY... IN 12 MINUTES AND 35 SECONDS I HAVE LEARNED MORE ON CANCER THAN A 1 AND HALF HOUR LECTURE IN MY COLLEGE CLASS... THANKS SAL!
"...recognises that it's somehow damaged and destroys itself." Me_irl
Lol, I enjoy watching these videos to study from since I am in anatomy at the college level and some of these are good "refreshers". I have also laughed at some of the word choice for example "Psychopath" and his "descendents" . This makes studying fun. Not only that. Sometimes I just watch these videos because I like watching them.
Our teacher made us watch this video. Im a freshman. In high school
iSK I’m taking bio over the summer so technically I’m a freshman lol
iSK you’ve graduated now lol
U done with college? 😂
I actually learned this while learning physics, specifically why some types of radiation can cause cancer by upsetting the electrical state of atoms in a DNA molecule.
Khan, brilliant as always. Keep it up!
This man is one of the great minds on this planet. He could easily teach at schools like Harvard or Stanford. It is a true privilege to be able to listen to him speak on such important issues
This was extremely clear and the way you break it down which such compassion. I love how you are keeping it real and still manage to stay on topic. Thank you for this amazing video:).
I like the phrase "by-product of broken mytosis" :) it explains everything.
Congratulations!! You have a fantastic way of transmiting knowledge, simple and easy, perfect technic.!
Can you do some more in depth videos about cancer e.g. the angiogenic switch, growth factor overexpression, autocrine GF signalling etc!
Thank you doctor. I wish i could get you as biology professor. your explanations are very clear and way understandable compared to that of my professor. Good job!!
This is a great intro video to cancer. Brings everything I know about it so far together and gives me this great base to keep going
Your videos and presentation style is so amazing. You are a natural born teacher. Do the world a favor... DON'T QUIT!
8:15 "Cellular psychopath" sounds like a good name for a band.
gotta say, you have got to be the greatest teacher in the world
I have to say,, you are really enjoyable to listen to,, you have a great way of teaching,, God bless you
Thanks from South America! Your intention to educate the world is really wonderful!!! Thank you very much!
'invasive' 'benigu' 'tumour' 'neoplasm' 'metastasizea' 'frequently'
all of Sals amazing vocabulary, words i have never heard of till now then...
'grows like crazy'
i love it!
I had to watch this in my year 7 science class the other day!
cancer has been one of the serious medical condition especially in my country Kenya. working in public facilities have made me learn more. The problems we are facing are: lack of information about cancer, inadequate diagnostic facilities doctors.
The information you are giving will enrich people in terms of knowledge and take appropriate measure in controlling its menace.
You explain this so well! I really appreciate your content. thank you 🙏😊💯
good teacher! thanks,
You are great you taught me everything I needed to know about cancer😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I wonder if there's a method of artificially inducing aptosis that kills off mutated cells before they become cancerous
I am very grateful for your patience in trying to explain these topics. Thank you for all the hard work.
For the ones who are asking him to go more deeper, just look at the other videos. This was an introduction to the topic and a generic, wide overview.
It's just a lame attempt to share how intelligent they think they are. We don't care.
you are so kind !
dude you're amazing i love this!
A very simple explanation anyone can understand.
amazing thank you
two of my relatives just died from cancer last 2 days. :(
maybe I should learn something from here so that i help the people suffering from various type of cancer in the future...
My grandfather dead from cancer in his liver
I am going through all of Khan Academy videos right now! I will be as smart as this guy! or at least as knowledgeable as this guy!
you're reeeeally good - my teacher even uses your videos in class
Wow! I like learning stuff just to know it. If u could make more videos like this ( and the brain teasers I love those) I like learning stuff even though I don't need to know it especially about the Human body and space. Thanks for the awesome an easy to understand video
Wish people form all the world 🌍🌎🌏 enjoy this like i do thanks khan academy
thanks for announcing this on youtube stephan
I enjoyed this like to see more in the future 💞
wow !!!! thanks you help me a lot
excellent video keep up the great work
You're very smart! You might as well make a video on how to cure cancer too!
please do a playlist all about cancer!
it's interesting
You did fine with pronouncing metastasizing, when a cell metastasized; based on it being hard for you to pronounce, I'd say, Mr. Khan, that you did a marvelous job of working your way through that problem... if you have difficulty pronouncing anything, take your time and do it right.
I think it shows how simple cancer can be explained i already had good knowledge of cancer before watching this but it shows easy to explain and we know exactly what we are dealing with and how difficult the solution is/are. Because its our own body not some foreign entity effecting the body but our cells mulfunctioning.
excellent information, as usual
thanks for the upload
: ]
Cellular phychopath haha awesome. Thanks, great video!
thanks!!!
Interesting video!
the plural of nucleus is 'nuclei'
I'm a 3rd year med student. Excellent job. Very well explained.
I'm really glad to hear Medical students learning their biz on TH-cam, makes me feel secure. LOL
This comment was posted when I was 2
11:40 Is there such a playlist? I would love to see it.
Incredible simple explanation by phases/-Wow!! Cant wait to see what AI does in the future. Great Job
thanks.
Prayers will do more than money and your studies ever will. without them, you wouldn't even begin to think of a cure.
great video ! really enjoyed it... Can you tell me which software i cud use to create blackboard videos like these ??
I define cancer in a different way. Tumorigenesis is a
complex, temporo-spatial, multistep phenomenon that begins locally in macromolecules
at the level of quantum interactions during spontaneous thermodynamic
fluctuations [Waliszewski P et al. On
the holistic approach in cellular and cancer biology: nonlinearity, complexity,
and quasi-determinism of the dynamic cellular network. J Surg Oncol 1998;
68(2): 70-78]. Macromolecules undergo deterministic chaotic oscillations
caused by physical forces whose average value in time is zero. Some of those fluctuations
lead to the irreparable DNA damage in protein encoding genes as well as to the
altered function of DNA polymerases. Those alterations result in both
qualitative and quantitative changes in non-linear, non-bijective, and
quasi-deterministic dynamic cellular network composed of genes, their
regulatory elements, RNAs and functional proteins. In particular, mutations
appear in some critical genes during DNA synthesis and replication (compare [Tomasetti C et al. Stem cell division, somatic
mutation, cancer etiology, and cancer prevention. Science 2017; 355: 1330-1334.]).
A novel cellular phenotype emerges. Since that process occurs random and
parallel in different stem cells, malignant phenotype may appear in different
tissue localizations. Usually, cells with the mutated DNA self-organize in a tumor,
that is, a tissue structure composed not only of malignant cells, but also
fibroblasts, muscle cells, and blood vessels. Although that lesion develops
locally, phenotypically malignant cells spread over the body and colonize the
distant organs as metastases. The metabolic influences of the local lesion
change eventually metabolism at different levels of hierarchical organization of
multicellular organism, from
subcellular organelles up to the organism level. Those metabolic alterations lead
to death of patients. Thus, a variety of interactions within that hierarchy determine
the course of tumorigenesis as a disease.
I really enjoyed this video! Cancer is ripping the world apart that’s why I want to help
I learned this stuff a year ago.
As for youtube being bad, I wouldn't care if a rocket scientist learned calculus from Khan. If it gets an "A" on the test in class, it's accurate enough to learn from.
Haha! for a soon to be Dr you need to lighten up. I'm 53 compared to what I absorbed in College to what I absorbed the following years I would call it a ratio of .01% to 89%.
TH-cam is awesome. I have learned more in 3 years of TH-cam then I would have learned in a decade of Univeristy.
Good luck to you kid!
can u do a video on the full process of apoptosis and necrosis, outlining differences
Can you please make a video for the Lac Operon process in E. Coli? It's so confusing and you would be even more fantastic for clarifying it to all us biological sciences majors out there. Thanks Sal!
Yes bro its very confusing
thank you sir
@valhala56 If you even realised how much medical students had to work, you wouldn't be scoffing here. It's a great recap to difficult concepts. Thanks Khanacademy!
And hope if there was language classes it will be cool 👧
Watching in 2022 , amazing lesson 🤩
I have to go to the doctor tomorrow, this video was so scary
@Anonie324 Thats "ALIVE AND WELL by Philip E. Binzel, Jr., M.D Whale" for the free book
"cellular psychopath" lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Can you recommend any good book about understanding cancer especially breast cancer
Great video, but maybe you should mention an important point that everyone seems to forget about when talking about cancer...
How does it kill you???
You'd be surprised how many people know lots about cancer but can't answer the above question.
"something wrong with my brain". don't think so. Your brain works great. It takes the most complex subjects and makes them simple to understand. You are like the professor in college you wanted to take over and over.
I have lernen with Mr Khan Mathematics, chemistry, physics and now medicine 🤣🤣 are you really great man

Watch this informative video about *9gag*.
And Pewdiepie
Good Stufff... YORK EXAM HERE I COME!
.. the reason i chose to do biology. im still 16 so i got a long road to go, but this might be a way for me to have any influence in the world. (:
what you doin now?
@@astitwakumar6994 Wow, it has been 9 years since that comment. I just handed in my first application for a PhD this week after graduating from my master's in life sciences at Utrecht University! (I know... this isn't LinkedIn :p)
@@Jeroeneenendertig oh my gosh, i wasnt expecting your reply , not this fast at least, but congratulations on whatever accomplishments you are making in your life(btw i also saw a man grow up in just a couple of seconds)
@@astitwakumar6994 Haha, it's coincidence. I was watching another video on gene editing when I saw the notification pop-up. I have grown up, but you never stop learning right. What are you up to, are you into biology too ?
iam also interested in biology but my parents are hoping for me to do engineering. Guess its time to do some bioengineering or biomechanics i guess
Why not use a retrovirus to reintroduce the self-destruct mechanisme?
Hey do the cancer cell undergo protein synthesis as well ?
@wordbird1 I had a dog named Molly too, she just passed away yesterday, she had Lymphoma as well.
"Grow like crazy" was it something important enough to write?
Yes.
KHAN!!!!
@Chnamanjx
problem with that is, that there is no single "apoptosis-gene". this process is highly regulated and controlled by a number of different factors.
GROW LIKE CRAZY!! Love. :)
nice
You know, when I die, I'm donating my body to science.
Great video. So it really means that all of us have the possibility to have cancer because of the continuous mitosis and there might come a time that some cells would have mutation thingys goin inside them. Ohhhhknoes.
NINE YEARS LATER. "Psychopath" is still funny
Correct. All cancers start from just a single messed up cell.
Though, every human started from one cell too (called a zygote), so it's really not all that impressive.
cellular psychopath lol'd when you said that
@MegaBreyergirl IKR I Use Khans for school =D
So, given all that, how do you get a benign cancer? I know I heard of that in passing, but how does that come about? I really do want to know.
He mentions that neurotic cells can duplicate/divide, yet they can't the only thing that cells do in the brain when they are damaged they recognize the damage and cut off the connections with other cells around it and the cell parts are broken down then added to other neurotic cells
Cancer: A disease I'm all too familiar with. Lost both of my paternal grandparents, my uncle, and my mother, all to cancer. My husband also lost his grandfather to it, last year. NOW....my maternal grandfather was just diagnosed and there's no hope for him, in addition to another one of my uncles, who is currently fighting it. So basically, it's wiping my family out, one by one. We need to find a cure for this damned disease, and we need it NOW!
wow u r good !
lol @ cnt say metastasized coz i think somethings wrong wth my brain
He explains that in the video. In short, because it's not just one disease, but rather a class of diseases.
TOO EASY, GO DEEPER PLEASE !
Yeah Id like him to do molecular level of dna mutations, recognition of flaws, etc
Lame. We don't care how intelligent you think you are.
@@jimmyb4982 and we don't care about your opinion. We asked the video creator not you. No one asked you to reply after 4 years.
@@biswajit4134 Lame, again. Get over yourself; you'll be better for it. And who's we? Only you asked.
@@jimmyb4982 u seriously r dumb ..we r those people who liked on his comment,so simple
Interesting video on cancer sells, thanks!
