I'd find the extra point to swap a regular TIE for Black Squadron to escort Howlrunner keeping alive for a little longer. Starter lists should use core set stuff as that's everyone's jumping off point for now.

I guess you could always proxy some of the cards...
When I was trying to get into Armada I was doing my best to buy as little as possible, and I wanted to be an Imperial player. My plan, before buying anything, was to grab a Core Set, and the Chimera. Back then, Squadrons were next to impossible to find, so those extra 2 squads with the Chimera felt like a god-send. (and at 20 points each, those Gauntlet fighters soaked up a lot of points for a 400 point build!) My local book-store had a single Gladiator Star Destroyer for 50% off so I was going to grab that to complete my fleet and I would have my fleet for as cheap as possible! The plan was foiled when I bought my starter off E-Bay as it came with a 'free' Gladiator. My starter Imperial fleet was now a Vicotry 1, and two Gladiator's. Black dice and Screed FTW! Getting into this game is hard, especially with the price tag. E-Bay and Amazon sales saved me. Be patient with E-Bay, people on there really like bidding items way above their retail value... Best of luck out there.
I play legion and x wing and have been dying to play armada but I feel like I should wait for clone wars stuff to come out even though I’d probably play empire
After getting into the game, I immediately bought a star destroyer, and two interdictors... it was terrible, but fun, as you boxed in the opponent, and shot them with the decent sides of your Ints and hit them with the front of the ISD

Ruthless Strategists is really risky when your squadrons only have 3 hull each, and that’s a lot of points on regular TIEs that won’t be super great against ships (though Sloane does increase that effectiveness). I would’ve dropped to a Quasar I with Boosted Comms/Expanded Hangar Bay and grabbed the Avenger title for the ISD.
When your squadrons have only 3 hull each there’s a very real chance they’ll get 1-shotted. I’d much rather inflict 1 or 2 damage on each of them myself first, before they die.
Onager Star destroyer. The new best ship. I never get to fire ignition (my opponents are good enough to avoid ignition shots) but even then it’s the best ship. Or get a Crimea, and a Quasar; best imperial list of all time and current meta. Sloan trashes SSD, Starhawks MCU and everything in between.
Whichever one you will have more fun identifying with! The balance is pretty good right now, and you'll find a variety of playstyles inside each faction. In general, Imperials ships have really solid chassis you can rely on, but cost more points and often resort to brute force. Rebels are very upgrade and tactics focused but the flexibility gives beginners lots of options. There's no obvious easier or better option. The one thing that could change your mind is availability. Rebels are generally easier to find for reasonable prices, with a couple of exceptions.
Thanks for the video. I started playing but had stopped. I'm interested in getting back in and this type of video makes me want to play even more. I struggled with fleet builds but especially how to pick objectives. I know you did some before, but can you make an updated video explaining objectives? Thanks.
Me and my friends have started playing and have just been 3d printing ships and cards because i don’t got the funds to be buying ablot of ships. We still have a lot of fun. Squadrons are the only thing we can’t print. But ill be buyin the chimera soon thoug
Man, Everytime I watch one of your Armada videos it reminds me how much I miss the game. I haven't played in a couple years but I see much hasn't changed in the way of good upgrades. Once we can get back into shops to play again I may have to get back on the Bridge and get flying for the Empire again!
I love the idea, but you picked some of the most hard to find ships right now. There was a brief reprint of the Gladiators it appears as my shop before COVID had three but finding them online has been tough without spending too much. Same with the ISD. (If anyone knows of some ISDs... maybe even Chimeara's, I'm looking for another....)
not sure where about you are but in Aus the Chimeara has been pretty reliable to find online. An ISD though I haven't seen one of those available since I got into Armada over 2 years ago. I recommend using a site like board game oracle to see who has stock of what ship and who has the best prices. Plus they give you a price history so you can see if the price is alright or not.
The US, and Amazon finally got a stock of the Chimeara in that wasn't absurdly priced. (I think the MC30 is at like $145 or something dumb...) My fleet is pretty well rounded, and I mentioned it on another Crabbok vid that I should have watched this from the perspective of "What can I hand a new player to entice them that won't overwhelm them with upgrades or combos..." Also, watching his newest Rebel Vid, I realize that my LGS has so many different rebels right now. Phoenixes, Profundities. I think MC80s. So I think a lot of it is just find what is where, don't rely on Internet.
Audrey Brooke only $145 for the MC30! I haven't seen it for under $280, I was fortunate to get a 2nd hand one on ebay for about $40 a few months ago. Yeah it does seem like there is plenty of stock around of the rebel large ships as well as CR90s, nebs and peltas. But imp ships are so few and far between if they're not victory SDs and I already got 3 of those. Ahh well just keep hanging out for the reprints I suppose.

Friend got me into armada when he told me that they were going to start adding the Clone Wars era ships, started playing imperials about a month ago after watching a few of your videos on them!
This is a good list, but there is one problem with the build. To get the number of ties that was used you have two options. One buy several core sets, or pay for the imperial squadrons pack twice, which would cost you right now $59 to $149.
Having just gotten into Armada, I appreciate videos revisiting and summarizing everything from a current wave perspective.

Onagers are ok, but lack mobility, once you flank them it's hard for them to spin around
