    Before I say anything - my brother - "In Rainbows: Live from the Basement." Lifetime experience. I'll return to that. Dude thanks for sharing that straight up real experience, it was cool as hell to watch as a lifelong fan. Sad for me, as I am an old Gen X'er now, but I WAS insanely lucky to go through HS and college from 90 to 99 - classic hip hop and its emergence as the dominant music form (buying the first Wu Tang joint on cassette tape and hearing Nirvana unplugged live on the local radio station with my girlfriend in parking lot), Grunge - this new branch of rock - punk meets metal meets folk acoustic ballads and done by Apex bands who just by chance all came up in Seattle at the same time - so very needed, this opened the door for so many more straight up but SICK alt/rock bands of epic greatness everywhere, electronic music started taking hold as the decade progressed and ruled the whole scene by 2000 - it was a ludicrous time to be of that age absorbing all that. I loved as my top favorites from diff genres Pink Floyd, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Underworld, and A Tribe Called Quest in no particular order, knew 'Creep" of course and had really liked a couple tracks (Fake Plastic Tree in particular) off album 2 "The Bends" in 1995 but didn't give any other thought to Radiohead. Then I saw this crazy music video anmation on an old MTV animation show for the "Paranoid Android" video, as the video fascinated me the song took over my soul. I rushed back to B'Burg VA and bought the album and it played during late nights sessions in my various houses and apts every night for 2 years after that. It became and still is my favorite album of all time - to me the closest thing I've ever heard to 'pefect' (though "In Rainbows' as it grows on you - man - it is spectacular, just more of a vibe and most intimate soulful album they ever did verus a SHOUT like OK Computer which clled out the future PERFECTLY that we are in now and was a de facto cncept album - not like "The Wall" but the themes of paranoia, isolation, Aliens, technology, A.I., a dark govt, life moving too fast, the internet opening doors we wouldn't know where they'd lead...all in that album in every songs DNA - and Kid A was like it's symbolic child being born into this world and experiencing it. One hell of a one/two punch though Kid A take some real time - yers for me on some songs before I had my Ah Hah moment and fell in love (you will find the same on Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief and the rest, some of the best songs take 3 or 30 listens before they end up becoming one of your all time favorite RH tracks - their is one on Amnesiac called "Like Spinning Plates" that I skipped or toned out for like 10 years then one day apparently I had heard the layers enough buried in my brain in the background of the song that it finally snapped into place and blew my mind. Now it is like an easy top 20 all time track from them for me. Not always easy with a band like this which is why so many people blow past them. But they always have enough immediately gorgeous tracks on every album to make them all bangers and the rest - that's just time and place and life. But after this long comment - yeah - OK Computer made them my favorite band forever and they still are, and if you ant to really connect with them, enjoy this album In Rainbows at an even higher level, and witness one of the most legendary rock concert films of all time, check out In Rainbows From the Basement. Watching them make these incredible sounds and immaculate songs - some better than on the studio for sure, live with no audience, really shows you who is who amongst the 5 of them and is such an awesome experience. I cannot recommend it enough. Its been the same 5 guys fir 30 years - even the producer and album artist - and this how draws you in like the album cannot and they both exist in their own amazing Universes. (Also you get to see what a badass rhythm guitar player Thom is). Thom is a genius but so is Lead guitarist and 1000 other weird instruments Jonny Greenwood, who composes all the string sections and has 2 Academy Award nominations now for classical orchestra movie music scores (There Will Be Blood is his most famous work) - never a bad skill set to have on the band - but Thom writes the songs, Jonny makes sense of them, and the rest of the band are lethal musicians and lifelong friends since before college playing together and it shows. That was epic to watch - awesome content - just sharing legit emotion and smart commentary. I hope you keep up this journey my friend.

      I was at the famous Bonnaroo 2006 set. And heard what some say is the best version of videotape. But that was my first time hearing that song and it passed me over. It wasn't until hearing bootleg recordings of that set a few times that the song finally clicked.

    • @dreww1609
      @dreww1609 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@likespinningpats So cool yu mention this - like I worshipped this album from the first listen EXCEPT "Videotape" which is controversial sice it is seemingly so beloved but I really was so let down that what I considered a true flawless album ended on this - whatever the heck it was - like legit dissapointed almost mad! So silly in general but hey - music is passion. But yes - it has been through live performances - even just the Basement performance adds so so much with Phil drumming and Ed's ambient chords - but man this one did not do it for me for a long long time. But I kept seeing people gushing over it as the best of all their closing tracks, etc...but now of course - man - definitely far preferred live, but I get it now and thoroughly enjoy it. Still don't think it takes "Street Spirit" as a closer :) - another similar experience with - and this stuns even me now - "National Anthem" - I would skip it like noise - now I am like if for nothing else the bass groove - what was wrong with me???? But to me that is part of their greatness, and a bunch of avant garde tracks on "Hail to the Thief" like "We Suck Young Blood" - man it took me quite some time to click on that one. But like - they are operating on such a level - and that isn't fan talk - Jonny i one of the premier modern classical composers in the world. Not many people listen to say some Beethoven Sonatas and are like grooving out the first time. It can take a lifetime. Not making this comparison, just saying. Such an on point comment - thanks!

      Every Radiohead album has those songs that just f*ck you up emotionally, and Thom's vocals delivering those emotions, damn..

    Dude ( ) by Sigur Ros is so good. If you like Radiohead you’ll definitely love them. The final song is so crazy good, and by far my best closer ever

    Don’t forget to check the eraser album by thom yorke and AMOK by Atoms for Peace. Both up there with my favourite Radiohead albums, in rainbows probably being the top.

    The best Radiohead album with a moon shaped pool just behind. Having jigsaw falling into place and weird fishes aka the best Radiohead songs makes this album op.

    If you have time, watch warren music's explanation of the secret syncopation of the song 'videotape' on youtube, brings a whole new appreciation to the song.
