Remember Ken, the FAA says it isn't a great idea to fly your drone into fireworks. They also say Remote ID IS a great idea. I'm not sure the FAA understands what a great idea is. I do however know this is a great video. That fireworks guy was awesome and so were the firefighters for helping out.
I just remembered another favorite video of his. I wish that when I was fat dumb and happy years ago that we could have done it. That was when they had the Roman candle on a drone flying at people.
👍🏼 Ken always manages to make me smile with each and every video. A born storyteller and lo-fi comedian. And…. Don’t underestimate his choice of eye candy talent. Thanks as always.
Kudos to you ken for going about it the professional way. And kudos also to the firemen who helped you to recover your drone, It's really comforting to know that compassionate law enforcement is still alive. I tried the very same thing last night with my avata and I give you props because even with the avata in auto mode it was kinda hard to keep my bearings without reference points much less a fully built drone without all the safety systems.
Very cool Ken! I've always wanted to do that but this 4th I'm going to go straight up with my Avata and record 360* of thousands in our subdivision/plus send out fireworks. Wish me luck!
Looks like a good time. Sort of mad you didn't invite me to this one, I would have come out for it. Did you forget that we decided that strobe lights would be best for the landing area? Great coverage. Maybe next year!
Ha reminds me of when i was learning to fly fixed wing. Flying at my local college i lost connection and crashed on top of a building next to the field. I asked the local fire department and they also decided they needed ladder training for the new guy. They didnt hesitate to help.
Thanks for risking your drone to get those awesome shots of the fireworks, many of them from inside the explosions. Sorry your crash, but I’m glad the drone wasn’t damaged. And great tips on how to shoot fireworks safety. Great video Ken, and thanks for sharing.
What a great way to watch fireworks. There’s a scene showing the firetruck and the flag, then panning up to the fireworks. Great stuff. “Inside” the fireworks really looked like a CGI recreation - amazing seeing this really be done.
Appreciate this video, because I plan on doing this on Tuesday Night...My family is getting together in the neighborhood and we have a TON of fireworks to shoot off, cant wait to try ripping with my fpv rigs....SO EXCITED!!!!
That is so cool they show you their setups and how the firework show is executed. This is so very cools. Is this last years video? In Carson City, NV they haven't even done their show yet till Tuesday. Lake Tahoe should be putting up one hell of a show this 4th of July!

Thanks for video and for including the careful discussion with the fireworks operators and all the precautions you took to avoid risk to people. Maybe you saw the video of the drone that flew into the lava fountain in Iceland. It was toasted, so they only got the live feed video.

Wow, amazing footage. You really do push your drone flights to new levels. I would love to do something like that, but only if I had a monetized TH-cam channel to help recover the cost in the event of damage. Not sure how I would explain that to DJI Refresh ... "well, I was flying and wanted to get a little closer to the fireworks and ...."
I tried taking video with my avata of fireworks had it ready to go, and that’s when I realised that it needed an update and it wouldn’t let me take off lol. It was only a little show and I knew that I wouldn’t get it done in time. Next time I know to get ready way in advance. I think you did alright going through those flashes of light from the fireworks and you got some great footage.
@@KenHeron , I wasn’t going to try going right through them like you did Ken, I just wanted to get the fireworks from a different perspective, namely from up in the air lol.
Back in the day I flew my Phantom 4 into fireworks just like this any burned my sensor - pixels were dead and daylight footage had red blue dots everywhere. Hope this doesn't happen to yours.
As a Part 107 Pilot AND someone who sets up and fires commercial 1.3 shows for one of the largest fireworks companies in the country, I would NEVER think of doing this! There are simply too many variables that are out of anyone’s controls. From an artistic standpoint, the glowing green drone lights are insanely distracting from the fireworks. It steals the focus and that is a disservice to the fireworks show designers. The company I fire for actually has fireworks AND drone shows together. They don’t replace but enhance each other. The only way I would fly such a mission was if it was a rehearsal show without public viewers (which would be expensive and very rare) and I was using what was equivalently a disposable drone. If even a small 3” shell would hit the drone before bursting it could destroy the drone AND be hazardous to the trajectory of the shell as well. Glad you got out as safely as you did. It could have been MUCH worse.
Great job Ken. Love your videos and personality. Your gal is a great helper. It's amazing that the quad wasn't shot out of the sky. Did the glass lens get pitted from the sparks???

So cool! Those were some amazing shots!! I don't think there's a show where there isn't a no fly zone where I live unfortunately, and don't you have to have a waiver to fly a drone at night or something. lol Yeah I still fly analog so maybe one of those special night vision cameras would be amazing for this type of thing, sucks only could do it once or twice a year even if you find a show that would be cool with it. I always fly with an artificial horizon and sidebars...and have a working osd. I think that'd help a lot for a show like this as well.
