I’ve been flying standard beginner Drones for a few years now and love it! Also during these years I’m learning from all the “Experts” on TH-cam about FPV builds. For years I struggle with it all. Too much offered, too much programming, parts, options, ways to screw up for elders like me. I feel this Drone will safely let me fly with goggles for the first time. My penny-jug is 3/4 full so far 🤞🤞🤞
Fantastic video!! 💯 Honestly Ken, I think this is.. without a doubt! ..1 of the best 'Avata review' type videos on TH-cam! Dave is sooo smart & I always value his opinion, hell of a good pilot too.. 👍
This was a great video. I agree that most diehard FPV pilots would not want this. I am not one so the Avata is perfect for me. This is the first DJI drone I’ve bought since my Mavic Air Original. Thanks for sharing this with us.
I am glad to see how good the Avata really does. Now if I can do that too! Getting better everyday since I started Manual Mode for the 1st time just over a week ago. I found out I do the best if I can place the controller on a flat surface and not worry about holding the controller and pinching the joysticks! It is so hard to keep it smooth when I hold the controller. I was thinking of buying a laptop harness that way I can stand or sit but have my controller are a flat surface so it is more stable and I can have an easier time controlling it. Thanks, Ken for the great video!
The thing I take from this is the incredible abandoned places to fly! No fences, no keep out signs, no rentacops...just super cool places! Ain't any of those in my neck of the woods 😞
I have the mavic 2 pro and mavic 3, been wanting an FPV for a while now, the DJI FPV was too much a beta test to invest the money, I really want an avata
Yes, that was Brian. A bunch of us were out there flying this past weekend. They are still working on renovating the place, but until they make a fence that can keep us out...🤘
SUPER entertaining and informative video Ken, thanks! Just started on my drone journey a year ago with the Mini 2 and love it but this is next level and I'm liking what I'm seeing! lol
I did a little check on my Avata voltage and what I found between how I charge my RC car batteries is it does charge a .2 over the default voltage. each battery pack has typically more than 1 cell so it calculates .2 over per cell as it does the balance charge. Of you have 3 cells you will see it charge a .6 over the full voltage of the battery as a whole. I doubt DJI is going over the .2 per cell charging rate. I have had a couple issues with Lipo batteries, but DJI I have never had a problem.
11:28 I just bought the avata. I could have built a drone. I'm a hobbyist, lol. I have 8 drones now. 5 are true fpv drones. 1 avata, and 2 regular camera drones. Also I have DJI goggles so I can buy true FPV drones with the 03 air unit. This idea that we'd just stick to true fpv is kinda crazy.
I love all the videos your doing with the avata!! Seems like one hell of a ciniwoop! I picked up the cinilog 35 performance 6s and I've been very happy with the smoothness and power!
You guys are making me want this drone even more now...lol...it does seem like dave liked the dji cinewhoop tho and i can imagine he loved the flight time where he is used to only a couple of minutes per battery
I’m flying a 5 “ with analog box goggles since my vision is s poor. I use +3 reading glasses and like +1.5 for distance. I have some crazy lens insert in my goggles so I can see most of the screen. I’m wondering if I’d be better off building and going H.D but I worry about how well I’d see the google image. I wonder if I could return the DJI purchase if the goggles don’t work for me.

IMO, the problem is the power to weight ratio. It's so damn heavy, and with video drones it's all about long flight time, that they use a gigantic monster lipo that makes it into a flying BARGE! Sure, DJI had no problem making this ultra heavy quad fly fine, but so much power is lost with the huge weight. A killer product for sure, if you wanna pay that much, and extra lipos - 😳🙄 I found a BetaFPV 95X V3 on clearance brand new for $175 shipped! All gone, but such a deal. Similar quads sell for over $350. It's actually a V4, if BetaFPV didn't have their head up their AS$! Less than 1/3 of the Avata! I typically fly with an ultra light lipo, a 450mah 3 or 4S, both work great, and that makes it's take off weight at about 172g. Well, as you can imagine, it's a Ripper with prop guards and DJI digital with a full Vista inside. Gives me the crystal clear video in my Goggles to easily pull off all of these moves in this video, but with much more agility and speed, and little to no prop wash. It's incredible the deals you can get for lipos, if you've always got your eyes out for great deals! Those 2200mah 4S lipos cost me 9 bucks! I’ve been told I am. Is the Avata not as stable to fly as my Air 2? I want the FPV experience. Thanks for a reply..😜
I think I would fall over flying that! Mabe do a video of a newbie standing up in a canoe flying it ha. If you have water insurance. My first drone is the mini 3 pro and havent got many flight hours yet. Thanks for video.
@@Fly_High_FPV okay, the obvious question would be, how do you power them using the Avata? Since it appears they're 12v strips, do you have an easy way to connect power from the drone?
@Yellow Rose Drones i sell kits, like what Ken showed on his LED video for $22, that come pre-wired with a battery tray and a duracell 12v , less than 20grams and self adhesive. Same stuff you're seeing on Ken's Green Quad. For full RGB you'll need an FPV Quad to power and control 👍
I noticed federal law dictates it is illegal to shoot down drones, but I live in Oklahoma, and state law states that people can shoot down drones with zero civil liability. Which law takes precedence in this type of situation?
Ken, how are you doing? I have a question, I noticed that my avata doesn’t go to the preset height when the auto RTH kicks in. It will return at what ever height it is, it could be 5ft or 100ft, when the auto return initiate. However it will got to the preset elevation when I press on the RTH on the controller. Have anyone else expected this issue.
@@KenHeron thanks for your reply. I already did all the calibrations with not luck. Most of the crashes that I have had with my avata had been during RTH. 😅 Since I noticed the issue, I just cancel the RTH and then reinitiate it manually. That does the trick.
It's actually a 4S Lipo in the avata. Li-ion was in the OG Mavic Mini. DJI actually labeled the Avata ad Li-ion. Which technically a Lipo is a Li-Ion...but yeah the battery itself is properly labeled and it is a Lipo 👍
@@Fly_High_FPV Oh that's weird. I think I read on their website it was Li-ion, but i haven't looked at the actual battery in real life. Good to know. And interesting tip to flip to normal mode if upside-down after a crash in manual mode.
@Sunrise Water Media the damn thing needs a kill switch...drones that dont disarm are a real safety issue. Imagine if it was in someone's hair, not stopping, and revving up when you try to put in the stick commands to stop it...I think the POS had a way to reprogram the sticks to have a kill switch, Avata needs one too (every drone needs a killswitch)
If the Avata is the "gateway drug" to FPV then what is/was the DJI FPV? The people I know who bought the DJI FPV stayed there. They didn't progress and get into BNF or DIY quads....AND those same people went and got the Avata as their next FPV drone. If you really want to get into FPV, then buy yourself an Emax TinyHawk. Master than and then progress to 3.5' or a 5" quad.
The DJI FPV definitely was the gateway for me. I flew and have smashed it into tiny pieces 4 times now. Now I have about a dozen quads; some I've bought, some I've built. I still fly the DJI FPV because I like the reliability and return to home functions. I feel safe sightseeing far out over the water knowing it will just come back if I lose signal or push the battery. I should NOT still be breaking it but it can be fun to fly and I just get carried away sometimes. You wouldn't think I'd be interested in the Avata at this point (I have several capable cinewhoops) but I bought one for the same reasons I like the DJI FPV. I *expect* it will come back if I do something silly AND I like the idea of using Normal mode if necessary for indoor real estate flights.
Since the spam man got me back onto this video I might as well say I can agree for as much money as that cost you guys it's quite slow and if you want that cinematic video flying.. Getit. But if you want to thrash and crash, nah skip it... go to the Beta85 like the man said and by a couple extra frames while you're at it...😉
I can’t believe it’s even legal to sell an fpv drone with out a disarm switch I’m scare someone will get serious hurt and that give the faa another reason to make stricter regulations

@@KenHeron It is.
But he's right.
@@Crashtopher Why doesn't any of your other quads have GPS with RTH? I've had that on my quads for years.
Freaking good stuff
Fly Ken's drone like you stole it !!!!!!!!🤣😂
So does Natalie have a stinky or a skinny one? It's hard to read @7:58
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
This guy REALLY hates this thing cuz it's cheaper than his drone and get people an easy entry into the hobby and has better quality
Experts 🤣😂🤣 if I name drop Steele enough I'll be an expert too.
