instead of using WPS, do the manual method by accessing the repeater management page (manual or google for ip, default user and pass should be both admin), then make sure change the SSID of the repeaer , do NOT clone ur main router's SSID, the easy method just clones the SSID, and ur PC might still try to connect to old network, if you change the SSID of the repeater, then you can test to make sure that your are indeed connected to the repeater
It's not necessarily about speed difference, it's about signal itself. If the speed is just 3 Mbps higher, but the signal is really strong and constant, that's a win in my eyes.
I know this video is old but, this wouldn't necessarily increase the throughput like you were expecting; this only increases the wireless signal range as well as allowing a device to connect to it using the Ethernet cable.
The extenders extend the range of wifi and not the speed! It's called range extender not wifi speed booster! Also as someone living in the Iran I'm pretty surprised by the low internet speed you have in the UK! 🤔
I've just ordered one today of Amazon for £11 so will give it t ago tomorrow hopefully you get better broadband speeds as it looks very slow to me. Thanks for putting the tp video on mate. Big up from Scotland 👌
I found this product excellent at improving signal in a dead spot but not for making my speeds faster and removing the dead spot. That is what I wanted and was expecting and that is what I got.
@@mdkvisions I just got mine today... my computer and ipad are faster with the old router, but my phone before was never able to catch the signal and now it does. For that the product, was worth it.
Just had a new router and used this as a small guide to help me as I some how lost the instructions. The bit that helped me was the ethernet plug, wps press and relocate. Cheers pal
Funny you mentioned the power line kit, I have both products - I configured the WiFi Extender in Access Point mode, plugged it into the power line plug via ethernet and gave it a new SSID - works like a charm in my studio. It's still an extension of my home network but all our devices see it as a different WiFi
Also, As Gundam_tech suggests choose a diff SSID for the extender, As your mobile will try and to connect to the strongest signal available whereas your PC will still try to connect to the original SSID
great job explaining the install steps mine came with different directions that sucked , maybe you can move yours in a different spot to try to get router strength up a level ty !
So...did you actually disconnect from the WIFI connection to your router and connect to the wifi connection provided by the TP-Link? I don't think you did...unless you did it off-camera. I've had two of these and they are very good, and after everyone started working from home I recommended them to a couple friends that had weak wifi and they're also very happy with the improvement.
I think your phone is still connected to the original (weaker) wireless signal, which means it's now sharing the connection with that new adapter, hence the drop in speed you saw when doing the speed test again. Supposedly Android devices have a problem auto switching to a new/stronger wifi connection if there's one available (especially if the SSID has the same/similar name, which it would since you used the WPS button to link the adapter). You need to manually disconnect your phone's wifi connection from the old/weaker wireless signal, then manually connect it to the new signal. Make sure you have auto connect turned off when you do this, or else it will try to reconnect to the old wireless signal it has saved already.
Got this from a friend, all it cost me was a couple of beer's, was brand new - setup was a breeze and has extended my WiFi connection 100% very pleased with this but the price in Argos for this item is £17 and goes up to £25+. I was lucky as my friend works in a place that sells these types of items, but I do highly recommend getting one if you are having WiFi connectivity issues.
Always remember 99% of these devises can get through one wall only, so map your usage. Two things, 1. Use manual setup, method 2, connect to the new SSID 2. Place it close to the dead zone (if your office is on the 3rd floor place it there and also try it on the 2nd floor). This extender is awesome, with my slow 100 MbPS (it only has 2.4 GHz which is upto 300 MbPS), but if you are on a higher speed network you need something else.
My issue I’m having at the moment, I’ve purchased a ring doorbell and my Wi-Fi signal is very weak outside where the bell is located. Do you think this device would help boost signal outdoors?
Wireless extenders suck by nature since they're just trying to boost signals, and it really depends on how strong/weak that signal is. Just get a AV600 ethernet over powerline. Then plug it directly into your computer or into a secondary router that is set up as a wireless access point.
Thanks, it looks very easy to set up. My current XtraBoost for some reason cannot find any WiFi networks. So I'm gonna stop wasting hours on this and buy the cheaper simpler TP Link thing you got, I'm getting it from my local Argos
Hey there, hteat cidwo . just what I needed. One question :If the distance is very long can you use 2 devices (like in row so the 2nd device gets wifi from the 1st?)
Better off getting a mesh system as it's using the same wifi. Using a wifi extender creates a hole new wifi channel. Mesh system uses the same wifi and the cool thing is that may mesh system allow you to run Ethernet to each one. Good cable management and this setup and you have pretty much Ethernet in each room you have the setup but still Wifi if that makes sense lol
remember when you use a repeater it transmits and repeats the same signal, so a lot of the time it will extend the signal and decrease the speed. You were actually quite lucky in you got a slight increase in data speed which is rare with most repeaters. These type work over Wi-Fi and as a repeater work entirely different from the ones that transmit the signal through the house wiring. I have tried both, and each has pros and cons, I personally like these for improving dead spots around the house, but for gaming and TH-cam streaming you might want to try an extender that works by transmitting through the household wiring, or their HD/4K extender upgrades ;) Nice video by the way. To check it really is making a difference you should do a back check to see the slight increase wasn't a coincidence. To do this you unplug the extender to check if it goes back down to 11mb/s. If it doesn't then the 13 was just coincidence.
Why would you buy an extender then not bring it up stairs with you. I linked mine up then brought it to my garden shed about 150 feet away from rooter. Works great

My wifi speed is 31 in most areas in house but drops in my garden. The extender improves the range but the speed at best is 21. A speed test on the ethernet port is good at 30, so the extender loses 10 wherever it is placed in or outdoors. I assumed it was faulty and returned it to Amazon but perhaps thats the best it can do. I wonder if other makes are better, anybody know?
that was normal, repeaters generally have lower data transfers as they transmit and share on the same signal. Some good helpful guides online explain this, just the technology and how it operates, you have to assess whether the trade-off is worth it (between extending the range and losing some speed on this particular product). Their powerline products that transmit through the house wiring do not have as great a loss.
