DeSantis went into the alleged GOP primary debate promising to "fire Fauci"--which is remarkable, given that Dr. Fauci has no government position at all at this point.
When your constituency has no grasp on reality, all you have to do is say things (generally incorrect misinformation) that agrees with what theyve been screaming about. I doubt even 5% are aware that he no longer holds a government position.

What this pandemic (a world-wide event) has taught me, is how only about half of the American population will make a concerted effort into protecting each other after an outbreak and the other half will spend all of their energy trying to prove that the emergency is fake. Other countries didn't seem this divided. God forbid we ever have a deadlier virus in the future.

I live in Japan, and contracted Covid this month on the ninth, had a few really lousy days, and am still recovering. I'm over sixty with asthma and heart problems, but I had prompt treatment and fortunately, no major damage that I can tell. The only vaccine shots I had were in 2021, and if I hadn't had those, I think my symptoms would've been far worse.
Dr. Fauci is not perfect, but his advice was and is sound, and he was and is, AFAIC, a Godsend to the medical community. That a person who's dedicated his life to helping others is getting death threats shows just how far the US has tipped (in some areas) into madness.
My son lives in Tokyo with his beautiful wife and new baby. I feel that they are safer there. I wish you a speedy recovery. I got it last Christmas. I remain boosted.

Perhaps it's time to retell this story. In 2020 I was one of those "essential workers" who couldn't work from home and who had to stay out there in the world, risking exposure to a still mysterious virus.
My memory of Fauci is hearing his voice on the radio as I was driving around in my car on eerily empty city streets. I don't view him as a hero as some seem to, he was just a voice on the radio helping me understand what was going on.
He was more of a symbol. When I listened to him I understood that there were hundreds of thousands of scientists and other medical professionals working on this problem. When I heard him I saw the rest of them in my mind.
I can't help but feel a bit bitter about this story. To me he is a symbol of humanity working together to face a common threat. I was doing everything I could to not spread the virus, to slow it down to give them more time to work on the problem. Meanwhile a vile minority in this country what's working to oppose all of that. When we were facing a challenge the only thing they could think to do was to sabotage all of the efforts. All they could do is act like spoiled children and reflexively oppose what responsible people were doing.
And when they couldn't get their sick little thrill from putting other people's lives at risk, they send in the death threats instead. Because that's all they have anymore. They instinctively hate people who behave like responsible adults, and apparently since they've given up ever being one themselves the only thing they can do is attack other people who are reaponsible.

Thank you for this. You perfectly express the anger I felt when it finally dawned on me that no one I came across in public, in my ignorant MAGA town, cared one bit about whether I lived or died. In fact, it became obvious that they were actively just fine with us (old people) getting sick and dying. Refusal to wear a mask at that time was an active wish for another's misery or death. It will happen again.

We used to discuss everything. Now, for 3 years, he believes all of the lies that are now even proven in court - admitted by Fox News that the hosts lied knowingly for ratings, especially when newsmax started up. My brother and I can’t talk about world events anymore. He accused me of being brainwashed by the “leftish media”. The word “woke” came out of his mouth and I was dumbfounded by the laziness of his argument. I was caught with my mouth agape in incredulity. This is a man who is brilliant beyond many measures. But he used “woke” as a descriptor for something he wanted to disparage. Lazy, empty. In French, “vide”. Empty. Vacant thinking. Thankfully, my sudden silence at his use of the word seems to have curbed his impulse to use the word again with me.
If he says he doesn’t support Ukraine, I’ll not know what to feel-or how to drain the feeling that he must stop swallowing the poison.
He has a BA.Hon. In Economics and Psychology and an MBA in business management & small venture capital. How can he possibly fall for these lies? I just don’t get it. Have you seen some of the countries with the lowest vaccination rates in Africa, Egypt etc? They were done with covid with lower death rates a year before everyone else. There's one other consideration worth taking into account: if you get vaccinated, you're less likely to become a carrier and spread it to someone who's not vaccinated.

I am from Michigan as well. I missed the last one, maybe 2 boosters and it was because it would make me sick for 2 days afterwards as if I had the flu. I currently have covid. I wish I would have gotten those boosters. Because this is the first time I've had COVID. I felt it did protect me as well as masking which I also became lax with masking. if I could do it all over again I would have continued to protect myself. Will get the booster as soon as I am able.

So, Covid comes back, and so does Fauci, even though he's supposed to be retired. Why is he returning to TV? Where is his successor? I recall Fauci expressing relief about his retirement, especially given the death threats. Given that the new person isn't on TV but Fauci is, it appears they keep bringing him back. It's reminiscent of what the mob does, suggesting he's an inside man familiar with confidential information, unlike the new guy.

Dr. Fauci was always sincere in his effort to give guidance according to the data he had at the time. He never claimed to be all knowing. He is a man of science who cares deeply about the people he serves. He deserves our respect - not threats and hostility. I am ashamed of every single person who has singled him out for verbal assaults, threats, and intimidation. 🤨
He funded the lab which leaked the virus. He also was responsible for allowing the AIDS epidemic to reach to horrific numbers they reached in the 80s.
Covid was a new and rapidly out of control virus which few in any people on the planet had specific experience with. Dr Fauci and the CDC and every other first world country did and advocated for mitigating actions that had been proven helpful in previous outbreaks of new viral strains (ie: influenzas). Then we had uneducated politicians and business leaders more concerned with the financial consequences and disruption of their life as they know it. Then when actual safe and effective vaccines were being rolled out, these same moronic politicians then started discouraging people from the vaccines which are notably as safe if not safer than any other vaccine. Countless lives would have been spared if only our 'leaders (?)' listened to the people that have dedicated their entire lives to preventions and mitigation of the spread of diseases.

My husband and I are in our late 60’s and contracted Covid last weekend. Both of us were very sick, even though we had our vaccines but I was the only one who had to go to the hospital. They treated me and I was able to go home with meds. I’m sure both of us would have been a lot sicker if we hadn’t had our vaccines. I almost lost my husband last year with a bacteria infection in his lungs. He was in the hospital for a month. I’m sure Covid would have taken him without vaccines. I live in Canada and we have one of the highest levels of vaccination in the world, in large part due to the savere restrictions imposed on unvaccinated people's ability to socialize or seek employment. I ultimately had to trust the authorities and get double vaccinated so I could get a job that I desperately needed after my business was shut down at the start of the pandemic.
I have since gone to great lengths to find reliable data on the effects of the specific RNA vaccines and the unavoidable facts that keeps showing up are simply that RNA type vaccines are inherently flawed, the adverse affects have been grossly under reported and the health authorities around the world have taken on similar characteristics to those that have corrupted many social justice movements. Essentially starting out from a place of necessity but as they push for greater awareness, far too many bad actors and people looking for a cause / identity are aloud to jump on board. Then their egos and sense of righteousness takes over the whole movement. I know I am over simplifying the depth of deceipt and reckless abandon that has followed but it is like two people arguing and one of them gets emotional and will not recognize the truth no matter how much evidence is shown to them...
