I got this set for my 10th birthday and spent the entire day building it. I am tearing it down right now and am going to rebuild it! Might be more excited now than I was to build it in the first place!

I know this is 4 years too late but I think you are missing a few pieces on the astronomy tower. Mainly the telescope and the little rubber handcuffs(granted these fall off easy and there is not a way to place a 1x1 round stud above to mitigate) that hold the sliding doors.
Are you certain that dragon tile goes with this set? I have this castle set and do not recall that tile at all! Maybe one of the mini-figures vanished it?

It would’ve been great if we’ve gotten more Hogwarts models to be connected to the 4842 and 4867 sets, but now that we got the Hogwarts Great Hall, Whomping Willow and Clocktower sets which can all be connected together we are still waiting for more Hogwarts structures to build a massive Hogwarts Castle.

Although I don't like this set because it could take place during Half-Blood Prince, or Deathly Hallows, or Prisoner of Azkaban, or prior to the events of the books when Tom Riddle is asking for a job. My point is, that there is no point when Harry, Dumbledore, and Voldemort are all alive together at Hogwarts, excluding the Tom Riddle from the diary. Plus, the Great Hall is facing the wrong way.

If you need to find and keep track of pieces, I recommend an app called rebrickable. Helped me piece together my Lego star wars 2012 falcon.

What I would probably do is change out minifigures and make them from the new series, then put Draco and his apple with the cabinet. :)

I think this set was just going for a general hogwarts theme, able to be used for any of the movies
The movies got it wrong. James was actually a beater.
To this very day the set costs AU $654.00 brand new on eBay and AU $201.44 used that’s a AU $452.56 difference
