    HHP Diesel Loco Shed HUBBALLI (UBL), KA
    'Godfather' re-incarnated: the 1st High Horse Power (HHP) prototype diesel locomotive of 4000HP, EMD GT46MAC manufactured by the legendary General Motors company in the year 1997. Namma SWR's HUBBALLI [UBL] WDG4 12001 is said to be re-born again after Periodic Overhauling by HHP Diesel Locomotive Shed, Hubballi with an amazing paint job and still kept the cab profile Original. It has received another life.
    According to the railfans like is, this locomotive is nothing but The "Godfather"!
    Cranking-up, Cab Ride and Cab interior of UBL WDG 4 #12001 is covered in this video.
    Meantime, there was another EMD imported GT46PAC UBL WDP 4 #20009 was doing shunting work, short ride and undergoing full load test on Notch - 8.

    wdg4 12001 was the first GT46MAC to be imported from GM EMD USA IN 1997 as IR was on the lookout for powerful,efficient diesel locomotives that could meet its increasing demands for heavy freight and passenger trains and replace aging ALCOS .Previously IR imported wdm4 locomotives from GM EMD in 1962 but couldn't make them as emd didn't agree for TOT but ALCO did so wdm2s were selected for mass production despite being less superior to wdm4s.WDM4S were fitted with a 16-567D3 turbocharged 2 stroke diesel engine rated at 2600hp similar to the wdm2 but were more efficient and gave fewer emissions.even the howrah rajdhani was hauled by a wdm4.These monsters remained in service hauling freight,small passenger trains and doing shunting duties till the end of the 1990s after which the wdm2s took over.When IR again returned to emd , they were able to obtain a TOT which meant they could be made in india at DLW varanasi.Thus the wdg4 was the first ever mainline production emd in india after the wdm4 40years ago.A similar model GT46PAC classified as wdp4 were imported for passenger service as well and the wdg5,wdg4d,wdp4b and wdp4d followed on.In 2018 IR decided to convert wdg4s which were due for midlife rehabilitation to wag11s and 12001 was also on the list but after many requests by railfans,the railway board decided to preserve it as a heritage loco post its service life and 12005 was another survivor which is in service today.With stupid electrfication going on and newer wdg4g and wdg6g locomotives being produced these emds seem to be going pretty strong as they are easy to maintain,have many modern technological features and are fuel efficient.It is always a treat to listen to emds for any railfan and I feel that emd and ge locos are going to dominate the tracks even in the future.Awesome video!!I always wanted to see the cab of 12001 and you have made that dream come true.Try to do a coverge on 12005.Let me tell you the wdm4s also sounded very similar to the wdg4s and current emds.Unfortunately they can be viewed only in a museum.

      @@indianrailwaysclick9979 the wdm4 was efficient in the way it carried a 2stroke engine made by emd which burner less fuel and produced fewer emissions than ALCO 251B engines l.The second reason is because emd was ruling the locomotive market in USA in the 1960s and 1970s and alco was on the brink of bankruptcy so it couldn't produce efficient engines and modern technologies like emd and GE remained 2 nd after emd in the locomotive market as their 4stroke engines were more cleaner than Alco's with many technological advancements till it's takeover as the number one builder in the 1980s and 90s.Hope you find this helpful.

    Did you see the GM Emd builders plate on this locomotive because since it was imported from cannada it should be there or it could have been removed as a consequence of rebuilding.

      they were built in emd's manufacturing facility in canada but imported from usa not canada

    Why is it being cranked from outside when the start switch is inside.

      The cranking switch was actually outside the loco ! But the start switch along with the control panels are inside

      Technically the are same. There are two buttons, one (inside the loco) will take care of switching the main control panel displays which will make a bell ringing sounds and the second (at the left side of Long Hood end) will be of the loco Cranking-up !

    How did you get access to visit a loco shed? Do you need special permissions? I want to visit KR puram shed since it is nearby

      I had a known contact who took me inside the shed. However you need permission from any of the official who works in KJM shed to get inside

      @@IncredibleIndianRailways thank you any wdp4 is okay either 20005,20007,20008 or 20009 beacuse they are the only imported wdp4s left in UBL.Numbers 20000,20001,20002,20003 and 20004 have gone to siliguri diesel shed in west bengal.If you have any contacts at Siliguri diesel shed then please do a video otherwise UBL is ok👍😀.

      Hubballi Jn station is electrified but the Diesel shed UBL is a pure Diesel 😍

      @@IncredibleIndianRailways Diesel routes are rare these days...only EMD/ALCO heaven today is NFR...Hubli was another diesel heaven few years back...i last visited UBL before lockdown probably 2018...lots of EMD...😍😍
