My mother and father were fortunate enough to know Karen and Richard in the late 1970's and early 1980's. They always speak of how kind they were and how much they enjoyed their time with them.
I used to live about a mile from their orig house in New Haven Ct. We both went to the same school but they were older than me. More like my moms age. Anyway I visited my parents about 2 months ago and decided to take some pictures of Karen's house, school and street signs. Wish I got to meet them before they moved to CA
perfect (the best i've ever heard from any singer male or female) diction and enunciation as well... and of course her storytelling and phrasing is unmatched..
She keeps her voice in that range that's most natural for her, so she could put sincerity into every single note, the tone and strength of every note is clear and perfect. If she went up high and did lots of showy, vocal acrobatics, that feeling of intimacy would be gone. I think her brother, Richard, knew exactly how to arrange their songs to complement her voice perfectly; the range, tempo, instruments, vocals all come together to be so moving and emotionally fulfilling.
well said, and it's NOT i repeat NOT to suggest that she couldn't sing high, she could sing anything and did have a 4 octave range, but she and her brother knew "the money was in the basement"...
@@tomschmitz5745 you're not lying. If she wanted to, she could've sung fast paced pop music like she did with "if I had you." She was very versatile, but her slow paced, low voice singing made her stand out.

I love “For All We Know”. This is one of the songs we perform in our Las Vegas production “Carpenters Tribute Concert”. Thank you for your reaction and wonderful insights on this beloved Carpenters hit.
KAREN CARPENTER WAS THE ULTIMATE SINGER WHO SANG TO YOU NOT AT YOU! THE ULTIMATE FEMALE "CROONER" and most moving, intimate, beautiful, pure, rich storyteller of romance and love songs, looking for love, finding love and losing lover ever!...
Great voice, great drummer, great person, etc.Yes,my heart broke when we lost her.The pressure she and her brother were under. Her deep voice in this song was haunting and beautiful.
Good analysis. When someone sounds natural it captures the heart and feel of the song more. : ) In this case natural voice was also a gorgeous voice. It all adds up to a great sound.
Short song, but very beautiful. One of my favorites of theirs. Karen's voice is just amazing. I have never heard another female vocalist with that kind of warmth to their tone.
I remember the day she passed- I was 17 (about to turn 18) and was so sad. All day at my job- they played her music and it was so so sad. The greatest female voice of all time.
This is def my favorite one as well. The funny thing is that most people dont even react to this song. Its almost like its hidden to most but soo loved by some. Oh well they are the ones losing out. You have great taste
Karen Carpenter: A Voice for the Ages! The clarity, emotion and tone in her voice can never be matched. So ironic she didn't feel loved, but at least a Billion people loved her worldwide. The Carpenters were a Big hit in the U.K., Japan, Europe, Australia and of course the U.S. to name a few countries. Tremendous loss to the World when she passed and we still mourn her. Very Grateful the Carpenter's recordings are preserved and will be enjoyed for All Time.
Brother and sister duo. Richard Carpenter wrote many of the songs and arrange the music and vocals. You need to react to the tune, Superstar. One of The Carpenter's best songs.
When this came out in the early seventies it almost instantly became “the” wedding song. The sentiment captured in the lyrics embodies the hope on a wedding day that the couple will live happily ever after.
When I was in my 20's this was a very popular song, and when I used to hear it it would cause me to reflecti on my life.. This t is a beautiful and enduring song. No one could write or song it like Karen! She is really missed even now! RIP Karen, you are loved!!
"For All We Know" is from a wedding scene in a film titled "Lovers and other Strangers." It basically expresses the apprehension that people may feel when they marry; is this the right person for me, do we know each other well enough, will I have the same feelings for this person in the future,..and do I REALLY love them. Well, "we have a lifetime," and "love may grow."
YES!!! Thank you for doing another Carpenters song. Karen's voice was one of the most beautiful EVER. She could sing acapella and make it a hit. LOVE it when people hear her songs and react.
Hi Enoma, I think the husband is a little older than the wife, but to me you both are so sweet, and young, and young and young, when you play music like this I feel so old, it seems a lifetime ago that I first heard the Carpenters, they had been on Midnight Special, and so many late night shows like Johnny Carson, and when we all first heard them we fell hard. The arrangement of the music was so light and free, and Karen's voice just lulled you, their songs were always about love and people being invested in one another. Their music for the most part. When you both break down the meaning of the songs you receive the meaning exactly as the writers and performers wanted you to. I'm so happy that the music reaches you as intended and that you open your hearts and minds to it. And also that you do this together. 😊, please keep going, together, so much ground to cover, do more, Carpenters, also Anne Murray "Snowbird, You Needed Me ", Helen Reddy, they are in the same atmosphere, mood, very mellow and smooth. Peace ✌
You're right, Karen doesn't use vocal acrobatics to have this song seem so amazing. Her beautiful voice, coming through a simple melody, absolutely stunned us when this song was released.
After Karen Carpenter passed away in 1983, the Carpenters song "Rainy Days and Mondays" always seemed autobiographical in terms of what Karen was dealing with. You should do that song as a reaction video.
I was like 12 when this came out... its wonderful to experience your reactions / as someone who takes the song for granted......its like experiencing it all over again watching you two
This song won the academy award in 1971 for the movie lovers and other strangers they all so were nominated in 1972 for the song bless the beast and the children for the movie the same name did not win that year thank you for your reaction to this song thank you for never interrupting if you could do a reaction to bless the beast and the children I believe you would like it very much very beautiful song stay safe God bless bye

Bread has many hits great songs like...Diary....IF.....Guitar man....Everything I own...etc,etc. I would and your subs I am sure would love to here you react to anyone of those four choices. thnx.
I am also a big fan of Bread. James Griffin and Rob Royer of Bread wrote "For All We Know." It was written for the movie "Lovers and Other Strangers" and Richard and Karen Carpenter first heard it while watching the movie at a theatre. Griffin, Royer, and Fred Karlin won the Academy Award for best original song of 1971 after The Carpenters made the song a hit.

Karen's voice so very special to me, I miss her to this day. No matter what song she sang Karen's voice is recognizable in the first two notes she sings. "For all we know" goes hand in hand with "We've only just begun"; which to this day is sung at a lot of weddings. In my opinion love has to be nurtured every day. And it may take a lifetime for lovers to really know one another. Each person has to care for the other person's needs in a good relationship. From what I understand a good marriage is where and when 2 people share their problems and approach life in general as a team helping each other, rather than keeping things bottled up inside.
A country duo invented sound with sound but Karen and Richard did it live for the first with her singing and playing drums and Richard singing and playing the piano. The backgrounds are all them
One of my favourite songs by the carpenters, it was featured in a movie but I can't remember the name at this moment, I have seen it but the song was far better than the movie.
A story from Richard Carpenter about this song: “For All We Know" remains one of my favorites as well. No, I didn't have oboe (at the beginning of the song) in mind originally. We had run into Jose Feliciano at one of our favorite restaurants- and a music business hangout- Martoni's. He really admired our records and asked if he could play on an upcoming one. Jose came up with that lovely intro and played here and there on his nylon string acoustic through the rest of the recording and all ended well. Or so we thought. The following day I received a call from his manager, an incredibly rude man who so much as ordered me to remove Jose from the recording. I took an instant dislike to this SOB- who did not remain Jose's manager for very long- and explained that, with all due respect to Feliciano, the Carpenters were one helluva lot hotter than Jose and in addition, it was Jose's idea to begin with. We then simply replaced the guitar intro with the oboe.”
