    Great review Dave. I am presently an Apple Watch user (running, cycling, elliptical, cross-country skiing are my main interests) but strongly considering the migration to Garmin. I have been confused by the many models and your videos have helped narrow this down. Thank you Dave.

      @@parajuanjo you can always use an aftermarket band with it. That spec is just for the strap that it comes with, which is pretty small

      @parajuanjo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@flighted2513 it's lame that spending that much money you have to spend extra money to get a strap from another brand.
      I finally went for the cheaper forerunner 55, which is similar size, slimmer, and with a proper size strap. And in the future I'll go for the newer version if possible.

    Dave, thank you for this extremely helpful video! I initially didn't want to buy a watch intended for women, but on the other hand I didn't want a large watch since I have a small wrist. Your video put me at ease and I bought the sapphire version of the 6s. And I'm really glad I did, the weight difference between my former fenix 3, where I felt like a half of my weight was on my wrist, and these is truly noticeable. The points about sleep and form factor being an issue while wearing long sleeves basically made my decision. So again, thank you and keep up the good work!

      Also - completely, 100% agree. Well done and well executed video. I have felt like the 6S the perfect balance for what I do as well, but I am only doing one hour CrossFit sessions so battery life is never an issue, but I do love the maps when I’m in the mountains! Size is just on point. Thanks!

    Dude, couldn't agree more. I recently sold my Fenix 6 and bought the new Fenix 6s solar, and love the size. It makes a huge difference. But you're right - it's sold as a woman's watch. The strap barely fits! No big deal - ordered a new strap to replace it. But the watch itself is perfect.

    Great video. I had a Garmin 3 and in the end I hardly wore it as it was so big... especially at work, it just looked too big for my fairly thin wrists. I hadn't considered the 6s because I thought it was the woman's version, however, when I saw the 6S Pro Solar, I immediately knew it was the watch for me. Had it 3 months now and love it. I'm so pleased I bought the S version. It just looks like a normal watch, doesn't get stuck on my clothes, doesn't feel as heavy or sweaty in the hot weather, etc. Edit btw, I find my 6s loses about 8 percent battery a day so will last about 12 days and of course the solar should top that up in the summer, so for me that's more than enough. I also do about 8-10 hours of GPS activity during a week but even with that I only have to charge it once a week.

    Great video! I recently upgraded from the 5S Plus to the 6 Pro Solar even though I've got a small wrist and the 5S is the perfect form factor. That one reason was simply battery life. Maybe the 6S has an exponentially better battery life than the 5S Plus but I got a maximum of 7h45m of GPS time with my 5S. While most people would say "nearly 8 hours is plenty of GPS time!" that's not really true. An all day mountain bike ride is going to push the limit of the battery and I do a few 50ish mile races every year that push it as well. But it's not just GPS time. It's also how much battery life the watch has AFTER a GPS event. Sure, I could squeak by in a 7 hour ride but now my watch is under 10% and I'm gonna be wearing a dead watch soon. That's a deal breaker for me.
    I also found myself intentionally NOT using some of the features for fear of running down the battery in the middle of an activity.
    I finished a 50 miler that took 7 hours on Saturday. My watch was fully charged on Friday. Today, without having charged it, it's showing 8 days of power remaining. That's worth the slightly larger form factor.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The 5 Plus series had notoriously bad battery life even with the larger versions. Thankfully the 6 series got much better. The 6s is capable of 25 Hours while the 6 Pro can do 35 hours in GPS mode. For me, that's enough for 99% of my activities other than 100 mile races. For those, I might reach for another watch or just charge along the way. Thanks for watching!

    Thank you. I've been trying to decide what to upgrade to, from a Fenix 3 HR. Your points about the size of a larger watch mirror my experience - the number of times I've scratched my car whilst washing it, or damaged something whilst painting! Put your clothes on first, then the watch, it catches on everything. I kept thinking the 6s had all the features, but seems to be a woman's watch. Great to see it's working for you and to see a man wearing it. Garmin 6s here I come! Thank you again for taking the time to create and share the video.

      I got the 6x sapphire for 670€ a couple of days ago. I got wide wrists an love how it just fits perfectly. The 6 was just a little too small, also because of the more narrow wristband. Nice video and review! As a guy with smaller wrists, I wear the Fenix 6S too. My only dislikes was the strap was too short so I bought the longer one and the shorter battery life vs the 945 it replaced. Both watches pinch the hair on my arms so I do have to trim them. Before those watches, I had a Vivoactive 3 so no buttons to pinch your hair. I went with the Fenix 6S mainly for the Sapphire Crystal face. I primarily mountain bike and scratched the heck out of the 945 and Vivoactive.

The watch is huge and heavy for my smaller wrists and it's starting to get frustrating, especially when i'm out on a run. Like you and many others i assumed the 6s was more of a woman's watch - especially based on the color schemes for the solar version. This review has helped convince me to give the 6s pro a shot when i'm upgrade. Thanks again for a spot on review!

    Completely agree with the size remarks, using a 6x pro in daily life is like driving a large off-road truck around town. Some people like that, I guess. Resolution is also less on the Fenix 6s and 945 with 240px vs Fenix 6 260px, but since the screen diameter also changes that is not very noticeable.
    As a Connect IQ developer my angle is slightly different, I feel like crying when Garmin only allows 60kb of memory for widgets on the fenix 6s and 6 vs 1Mb in the 6s pro and 6 pro. You really have to cut down a lot to fit a connect IQ widget into these devices (graphics, calculations, interface, etc). For reference the vivoactive 4 and venu allow 512kb. So if you pick the 6s, make sure its the 6s pro to ensure best performance and compatibility with connect IQ widgets and apps. My 2c.

    Great Video with a lot of interesting points. I'm still very attached to my fenix 5 plus titanium. The dimension is really nice and it gets maps, music and with Stryd even power meters reading. I have just a complaint about Garmin so far. They did not develop the interval run training in a way you can play with 2 different distances. Sometimes on a build up 10 k training you need to do reps where you make 3 x 2 miles + 1 mile + 1mile and this is not feasible at the moment. Second point is the recovery time. In my experience if you train before the recovery time is completed Garmin does not take it in to account to calculate the next recovery time.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've noticed that with recovery as well. Like if you have "2 days" of recovery but train anyways it doesn't increase that 2 days but rather makes a new recovery time. It would be nice to see them polish that a bit better.

      The 6s and Enduro are pretty different watches. The Enduro is quite large at 51mm in diameter. If you have skinny wrists and don't like big watches that may be a show stopper. The 6s is really small and actually has more features than the enduro if you opt for the 6s Pro or Sapphire. The Enduro however offers far superior battery life. Much like everything in life there are pro's and cons to both! Thanks for the kind words!

    Hey Chase! GREAT video! I have the 6s as well and I came from the 245M. I really like it, and I have smaller wrists (6"). However, I am frustrated (like you) on how Garmin markets this watch. it's really, REALLY annoying. Beyond the fact they basically come out and make it a "women's" watch.. they further restrict the type of bands they make for it. For example if you want the nice selection of leather bands, or metal bands.. you HAVE to get the larger watches. Yes, I have every aftermarket band there is.. and some are okay (like the one you have) but for a nice metal or leather quickfit 20 band.. Garmin needs to make this and they don't (except the one grey leather one). That part I think is not fair at all. So, I often wish I got the larger "6".. but again, it might look funny on my smaller wrist. I dont know. :-( Hopefully they make some major design changes for the 7 whenever that get released :-)

    • @ChaseTheSummit

Battery dropped from 100% to 45% within 24 hours (battery save mode during night took almost 20%). Only advice by Garmin support was to unpair the watch with the phone and turn off 24/7 heart rate monitoring = to stop using some of main features. Hard reset didn't help.
