    2022- Here in the USA, watching this video....why is it that I care so much what the older gentleman says? The white bearded man, what he says means so much to me? All of human history, as much education as I can get, and the wise old man in the village is still the most important person to listen too? Wow.

    • @brandyburke8704
      @brandyburke8704 2 ปีที่แล้ว +70

      I think that it's because our culture doesn't embrace the role of the "elder" anymore. Aging is something frowned upon- we must always be striving to be young and beautiful while we forget that each line on our face is a lesson learned.

    • @TheAwesomes2104
      @TheAwesomes2104 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      @@brandyburke8704 I just got to disagree with you here. I mean, perhaps we do put less value into the worlds of our elders nowadays here in the West, but I don't think that's the predominant reason.
      This amazing village elder said "We should live with dignity, die knowing it's there, and not hurt others in life, else wise your life will have been pointless." Which is profound, timeless, and true.
      My Elders say stuff like "The vaccine and masks are just ploys to control us." "Immigrants are just criminals trying to steal our jobs" and "I don't care about climate change, I'll be dead and gone before it's that bad." Which is not profound, timeless, nor even true.
      I'll respect what they have to say when they say something respectable. But it's clear to see who has let the years teach and guide them and who has used them to dig their heels deeper and deeper into their close-mindedness.
      Just as it's clear to see from what the older gentleman says that he is actually wise and has thought deeply about many, many things. But that's not common for a lot of our elders here.
      It's not about trying to hold onto youth and beauty, it's about a willingness to let ignorance fester despite experience. We don't hold our elders to such a high degree here because we already tried and they're running out entire planet into the ground with smiles on their faces.
      They don't pass down useful wisdom like village elders. Nowadays they pass down more pollution, debt, greed, and division than anything else.
      Our society here has stopped progressing forward and is regressing, we can't look to the same people, who built and largely still champion this system that's destroying itself, for the wisdom to overcome what they can't even acknowledge is a problem. The same way you don't want to copy the homework of a student who's failed the course 4 times in a row. Even if they've taken the class 4 times more than you, there's just nothing there that could help you.
      Of course, this isn't every elder in western society, but it is the majority in at least my life's experience. I long for a world where my grandparents form their opinions based on life experience, but nope, they're literally just naively parroting FOX news and the like, as if they burst out the womb yesterday and it was all they'd ever heard in their life.
      Also not saying that we don't put a massively unhealthy amount of value into remaining youthful, but it's far from the main reason we stopped listening to Grandpa babbling on about gender traitor potato heads, big bird and being fighting mad that they aren't sexually attracted to a certain M&M anymore. They're not speaking from experience, they're speaking from their tail ends.

      @@TheAwesomes2104 wise words. I'm almost 60 and I've come to learn that wise words have no age limitations- a five year old can be wiser than a 50 year old. And to your point, our society frequently sidelines or disrespects people based solely on their financial usefulness - whether they are 20 or 70. It's very messed up.

      I agree.
      I think It’s all about what you experiences in life, a 15 year old could have learned more lessons in their life than someone who is 50 years old who has hardly been through, or learned anything from the hardships of life.
      I’m currently in Foster care, and I’ve met so many kids and other teenagers who have been through more pain and hardships than most adults, and I think a lot of people would be surprised how wise kids can be, even. Behind the acting out, so many of these kids have stories to tell of how they pushed through and survived life’s challenge at such a young age,to me, that is what should be respected.

So, seeing 4 men listening, with the sincere intent to understand others and identify with the feelings of others is powerful… VERY powerful. This series has allowed me to feel connected to and see similarities, instead of differences, with people so culturally different from myself. Keep up this important work! I feel so conflicted by this channel sometimes. It sometimes seems like it's exploitative on the surface, but the way it's done, the insights shared are just so humanizing, and I know the money raised by subscribing is being used to help the communities of the commentators featured.
    The wisdom that they have, it crosses cultural and religious boundaries. The world would be such a better place if more of us could have such perspective.
    I feel so sorry for Mohammad. May he know I pray for him and the baby's memory.

      I'm sure these people have enthusiastically volunteered for these videos, so they aren't being exploited. There are multiple times the channel owner makes sure to ask for their permission before showing certain clips in case it would be something they don't want the world to see.

      I know exactly how you feel mate. I do believe that because it’s not run by white people (even if the intended audience is probably mostly white folks) these people have a lot more agency. It’s putting other perspectives in the spotlight which we need more of.

      I understand what you're saying. I just found this channel & have spent the morning binge watching . I'm American & I am fully aware of how a capitalist industry preys upon the weak. I absolutely love seeing & learning of & from other cultures but it's very obvious that their innocence makes them ignorant to the potential harm they are opening the door to. From psychological tactics to legalities... the internet exposes you to literally every evil in existence & as a good person you can't even imagine the evil that exists.. it feels like releasing a sheep in to a lions den. I don't think they understand the level of psychological tactics used in other parts of the world well enough to grasp the ways their minds are being manipulated. They don't understand that just seeing a certain shape or color stimulates specific chemicals & parts of your brain without your control... or how sound frequencies affect you. Theses tactics are used in everything throughout the entertainment industry & consumer products..from logos to children's movies.
      I certainly hope they have a good shepherd.

    A friend of mine had her daughter born stillborn. It was a complete surprise. They were so excited. Watching them grieve was excruciating. The child’s memorial video was set to this song. It was pictures of the pregnancy and then pictures of their beautiful child after her birth but not alive. This song took on a whole new meaning and I can’t help but think of my friend and her incredible loss, when I hear this song.

    I came across this ‘reaction’ clip almost by accident, it’s a song I love but watching the reactions of these community leaders was an insight into how we all see the world in different ways.
    I felt heartbroken at the honest sharing of the father’s loss of his child, a pain we can all often relate to. And something I have personally experienced, a universal pain.
    I love that there’s no condemnation that the singer was Jewish, that the music and his message was universal.
    I would enjoy listening to a version sung in Arabic, Pashtun, Farsi and the myriad of tribal languages and dialects.
    The different interpretations of the words and the meanings behind his gestures was fascinating.
    I have to admit that the lack of emotional response was surprising but that highlights my lack of understanding of the tribal culture of tue people here who were willing at least to listen something that could be seen as confrontational, I admire that courage.
    Personally, as someone who comes from a different culture and has seen Mike in concert I would love to take these community leaders along to a liven performance, I have no interest in trying to change anyone’s values or perceptions, simply that being in a live audience can clarify what is not clear at first Glance.
    I look forward to more reviews from this channel, thank you.

Also, it reminds us that we are all human, we all feel deep pain, we feel joy. There's more that makes us alike than that makes us different.

    Truely wholesome & heartfelt of these Tribal People with their wisdom & understanding of Passenger's Let Her Go.. it's really remarkable & amazing.
    Also my heart, prayers & condolences go out to Mohammad on the lost of his daughter in 2016, I know what it feels like losing family.. I myself just recently lost my cousin Norma Jean to suicide, her funeral was this Wednesday but sadly I couldn't go because I was sick with a cold, but I was able to see it via live stream provided by my mother. However I do have something to say to Mohammad.. you're daughter maybe gone physically but spiritually she is always with you to be there for you and your family in times of need and comfort. You're a good man Mohammad and a great father.
    Happy New Year from 🇨🇦
