  • This video is all you need to know about The Passion Translation of the Bible. I summarize many hours of research in this one interview and I hope this becomes a resource for pastors, churches and anyone who has run into The Passion Translation and wants to know more about it or its chief architect, Brian Simmons. You’ll hear about several issues with the translation, with example passages, you’ll find out about Brian’s supposed visions and how his credentials aren’t what he has claimed. We’ll compare TPT to other translations, show how it unjustifiably changes God’s word, reveal the truth about Brian’s so-called training and experience, and hear what actual scholars have said about TPT.

Revelation tells us (paraphrasing) "Do not add or take away from this book" meaning the book of Revelation. Of course you could assume that it would probably not be good to add or take away from any of the books of the bible... However, more than anything, it is best not to change the actual meaning of the words in the bible. However, lots of passages in the bible are interpreted in many different ways, and oftentimes passages have more than one meaning behind it. So alas, I guess we'll see in the end what God thinks about everything ;)

As a native greek speaker, I was curious enough to see how they translated the Gospel of John and they butchered one of the most important chapters of Christian theology (John 1). Translating λόγος as 'The Living Expression' is crazy. Also, in Revelation they changed Alpha and Omega to Alef and Tav. They are really holding tight to the belief that the NT was not written in greek. Scary to see how people are accepting this so-called translation.

My senior pastor used the Passion translation for a little while.
He enjoyed the language and he leans charismatic himself.
However, as he read it, he did start to see the strange disconnections. At about the same time, I presented him with what I had learned about the translation from you, Pastor Mike, and he very readily put it down.
What you were talking about regarding the label "translation" and the immediate assumption we have about translations being put forward by a team of people is absolutely true. And language like this really appeals to people who lean more charismatic; though I would hope and pray that those who have a good understanding of the Bible will see the deception before too much damage is done.

Initially, I was also very seduced by the Passion Translation. I researched, only superficially, Brian Simmons, and was misled by his claims of authenticity. I will say this, although I like to think of myself as a completely logical thinking person, when I received the Passion Translation, it felt really odd to me, I can't really explain it. I packed it up, shipped it back and kind of felt a relief when it was gone. Having spent these past few years as a reborn Christian, and studying every single day-only the approved translations, I think I have perhaps developed a discernment. That is amazing to me. I don't believe in the Passion Translation either, but you're talking about Psalm 8:5. In that verse the literal Translation is that man is "created a little lower than Elohim."
The Strong's Concordance definition of the word Elohim is:
      Strong's Definition:
Plural of H433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural {thus} especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative: - {angels} X {exceeding} God (gods) ({-dess} {-ly}) X (very) {great} {judges} X mighty.
      Brown-Driver-Briggs' Definition:
      (plural)
      rulers, judges
      divine ones
      angels
      gods
      (plural intensive - singular meaning)

These false prophets and false teachers are the very ones God speaks of in Jeremiah: "Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. They make you worthless; They speak a vision of their own heart, Not from the mouth of the Lord . • @JC-li8kk
      @JC-li8kk ปีที่แล้ว

That’s the problem with doing a new translation. You start changing things just for the sake of changing things. In order for the reader to feel they are reading something new or “getting their money’s worth” you really don’t have a choice. So now you are not trying to be accurate, but trying not to disappoint the audience. If your translation is identical to others then really what was the point? It sounds like anyone who would take on such a task is hungry for some sort of human recognition & finding a grand purpose in life. The Bible has basically been translated as much as it can possibly be translated without losing integrity of the original text. If you want to add commentary that would make more sense & be less dangerous because you aren’t declaring your words to be the infallible words of God. I would be much too terrified to do my own translation. The risk far outweighs the reward.

    • @xTwilightWolvesx
      @xTwilightWolvesx ปีที่แล้ว

@@JC-li8kk It depends on the intention of the translation. The original languages are difficult to translate into English, so often a choice has to be made. You either take each word in its most literal form, or you take the whole verse and phrase it in a way that the reader will understand what the original intention of the verse was. Various translations do a bit of both to different degrees. Bibles like the NASB add footnotes for alternative translations so you can make up your own mind on what the passage means. If you’re worried that you aren’t getting the real truth of God’s Word, try learning Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic, and study from the manuscripts yourself. It’s time-consuming, but it’s the only way you’re going to get the complete truth out of God’s Word.

Interesting that no other translation mentions that the source text mentions a Cannanite. I can see where TPT is coming from, and it likely does capture the essence of what is being communicated.
I have inly read Ephesians in TPT, and I thought it was a beautiful translation, albeit a very dynamic one as opposed to a literal translation. It expanded on Biblical language that I understand naturally after many years of studying the Bible, language that flies over the heads of people new to the Bible. It seems like a very good introductory translation.
Greek and Hebrew words are very rich, and I get so much out of learning about the source texts, and TPT is longer as it attempts to flesh out the richness of the source text and, as I said, expand upon the language based upon other Biblical context.
I have not personally found a blatant falsehood in the translation. And, I feel that dynamic translations should always be referenced with literal translations.

Tell everyone in your circle that there are ways to discern if translations are appropriate or not, they don't have to question all the translations because of one guy's forgery. And in this case there are obvious significant foundational flaws in the idea of the translation whereas most of the other ones we have are speculation or very minor issues. I know there are things that have to pass eventually and someday we will complete Revelation and the damned will be sent to hell and the saved will be with God eternally, but while we are still here let's fight as much as we can in love and with knowledge and with communication and not being afraid to speak up when we know something is wrong and stop people from being misled. Even though I have been to seminary and know enough Hebrew and Greek that I could make a translation (though it would take FOREVER), I wouldn't even use my translation. Every person has their own biases, and committees can usually negate those biases. The most well-known example being the RSV which had a Unitarian on the committee who was skilled in the languages but rejected the deity of Jesus. Yet, the RSV, contrary to what KJV-onlyists will say, does not reject the deity of Jesus. No one person's hobby horse is going to become a major part of the translation if it is done by a committee.

The most striking thing I'm picking up, is that the 'translator' has not been straitened / disciplined by the word of God which we already have in both testaments, including Who the Holy Spirit is, and what His role is, according to Jesus, which is why the suggestion that 'Jesus' gave him new revelation is such a plausible device.

He said we should only use Yeshua and Yahweh. It was very strange and I’ve never heard of that… We sang for 45 minutes and worshiped. Afterwards, we read a passage from 3 John, and I noticed that the guy leading it was using the passion translation. I am newer in my Faith and I’ve never heard of this translation before. I looked it up and compared it to my NIV and ESV Bible and I was astounded. I was questioning a scripture someone posted on FaceBook because it had so many extra words. It was even more verbose than the Passion translation. I posted just the NASB verse to illustrate, without saying a word, the contrast. The person who posted it made a comment. As I was praying about how to respond, I realized that the many words in the very wordy scripture limited what God was able to say in that verse by fewer, simple, words. Yes, the detailed words were correct, but they were not all that God could say in the scripture through His divine precisely inspired words.

The Message is not a translation it is a paraphrase. He just rewrote the English scripture in his own words. It might be a useful tool to get a different perspective on a specific passage, but it shouldn't be treated as a scholarly translation of scripture from manuscripts.

I so appreciate this heads up. I am still trying to get the kundalini spirit stuff down. But I also believe I read in God's Word that we aren't to mention the names of the enemy; it tends to give praise to them rather than God.

All of the angels whose names are mentioned in either the bible or rabbinic literature that I am aware of have names that end in ya or el. perhaps in a couple rare cases, that syllable is not quite at the end, but always in there. If the angel's name is "passion" even if that were a translation of the name, it would not match the pattern that we see.

I just noticed the Passion Translation of Luke 4:18 is the only translation in support of the Bethel misunderstanding of "the anointing" .. interesting.
Passion Translation says " “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, and he has anointed me to be hope[a] for the poor, freedom for the brokenhearted, and new eye"
Whereas most translations indicate that the Spirit was presently upon him BECAUSE he was anointed (as at his baptism in the Jordon) e.g.. ESV "The Spirit of the Lord (B)is upon me, because he has anointed m eto (C)proclaim good news to the poor."
Changing the "because " into an "and" and so equating the anointing with the Spirit being upon a person at a particular time or going to a preacher to get an anointing.
    It looks deliberate.

As I grew more in faith and become a bit older, I have found myself preferring and essentially only reading the Textus Receptus Bibles (like the King James and New King James versions). The others aren't horrible. But for some reason I just tend to stick to the textus receptus versions.
The Passion version though seems disastrous.

Thx Mike, your intro regarding Brian Simmons is enough. He's got special revelation and all the rest?????? Last days deception like never before. What about the Message txlation by Eugene Petersen?

IIRC he at least knows Greek and Hebrew. That doesn't excuse what he did, calling a paraphrase a translation.

I received a Passion Translation Bible as a gift. Of course I like it then I became concerned with some of the added sentences in some verses. You guys nailed it. Im headed back to the NIV and NKJ
