Nice video. Good job Heir. Thanks for making such good TW content. It has helped me quite a bit in getting better and allowing me to win MP matches. (Credit to Maximus as well) It's also nice to watch someone who talks to the fans play a game some such as myself cannot run/afford. Keep it up Heir.
Aelia Capitolina means "foreign capital" in Latin. Aelia being like Alien. The Romans had placed an Idol of the Emperor in the Holy Temple. They were furious after the Judeans revolted, smashed the legion sent against it and captured their Eagle. So they changed Jerusalem to foreign capital and Israel to Palaestina which means Philistine, a tribe known to harass the Isrealites during the times of Samson & Delilah.
Aelia is actually taken from Hadrian's name (Publius Aelius Traianus Hadrianus). Other than that (and much to my surprise) it's all true. Romans dun goofed :/
For the first time in any total war game, I lost a campaign. Sassanids take all of Asia and no one bats an eye. The Danes take two armpit villages in Poland and suddenly I must be stopped.
The Sassanids are much easier than the Danes. Those migratory and northern barbarians make for a challenging game. One or two wrong moves and it can be game over. I will try to show a migratory campaign sometime to show some tips.
***** It's sad to me that you live in Israel but don't know her history. Aelia Capitolina or "foreign capital" is Jerusalem. Check out my comment below for more info.
hi Heir, as the game progresses the fertility level decreases so if you are not crefull you may end up with severe food shortages(like what happened to me, i'm playing the sassanids too)level 4 camel ranches are the best as they give 130 food with some wealth in infertile regions which sassanids have lots of.
Heir with my Sassanid campaign Attila died before he became the horde leader. I hope that doesn't happen on yours would be nice to see you take down the scourge of God . I hope you have great triumph on your future campaigns through ancient Europe! Long live the peasant king!!!!
It has been reported on the forums that kills by onagers only count direct kills, so any troops killed by fire from them (which is almost all) are currently not counted. I've watched up close in a few battles in my Jutes campaign and they really can kill a ton of enemies especially when blobbed.
Heir, the food from horse breeders isnt necessarily from eating horse meat. It could be from the horses ploughing more fields that allow more crops to be grown. I know this doesnt improve attila, but I think its just interesting. :)
I'm probably gonna buy this when I have the money. Does it perform (FPS wise) better than Rome 2? The battles ran perfectly fine at 40 FPS on my pc, but the campaign map would drop to like 10 FPS.
dammnit! i wasnt sure about this game so i spend my game budget on europa universalis IV a few days before launch.... anyway i guess i will have to warm up by playing barbarian invasion untill i get the game!
You should have kept your melee cav in the center to counter charge their pityful cav (turn off fire at will on the inf obviously), shock cav on the flanks to get the quickest hammer and anvil.
Pira I'm attempting to imply that the steak is made of Romans, but yeah, guess I didn't word that properly. Also, I did Caesar salad because the Roman emperors call themselves Caesars, he's eating a Roman empire so he's eating a salad made of a Caesar. *insert grimace at bad pun* Yeah, probably didn't think through the joke out well enough cause I have to explain it :-) lol
Jamie Wanless Roman emperors didn't call themselves Caesars. There was a man called Gaius Julius Caesar. Who became the first emperor of the Roman republic.
Yeah the little Mesopotamia area is called the fertile crescent... But I always for that name specifically so I just call it the cradle of civilization haha
What I found quite annoying playing as the sassanids is that a lot of court members have the same name. You have for example 3 Yazdegereds in your family and court.
Heir, I always wonder why you use flaming shots. At least in Rome 2 and Shogun 2, flaming shots where used for moral penalty only, because it doesn't kill enemy units. I guess flaming shots don't have much armor pearcing. It seems the same rule applies in Attila. Use standard arrows to kill enemy. Besids, with flaming shot you're causing the same ammount of harm to your own units. (Moral penalties are caused to all the units that are between).
Flaming shots in Attila give more base damage and have a bonus against cavalry (although they do have less AP). Flaming crossbow shots also outperform every other ammo type
What onagers dont get in kills on land battles they makeup in disruption. I like to focus fire on generals or tier 2 units to soften them up and heavily drop morale with that fire barrage, or use them to tilt the cav fight in your favour if you are slightly outmatched cav v cav units.
Guys, or girls, what do you think the next TW theme should be? I was thinking, there doesn't seem to be more that Shogun, Medieval, Rome and Napoleon. Should there be something like... I don't know... TW India? :D I don't know what to wait from Arena, but TW Song of Ice and Fire (GOT) might be awesome.
They have the license to the warhammer universe and had a job posting for someone experienced with game design and warhammer but there's been no announcement of a game yet
Don't know, wasn't vacination invented 1800. :P I think there was some kind of time penalty, like 2-4 turns or something. I guess you just have to wait untill it's over. Or take it near the neighbor territories, maybe they can have it too :D
unlucky1353 The more you know. My history lecturer recently mentioned that some of the most current research suggests the conquistadors may have contracted the disease from intercourse with animals, so it's possible it was transmitted earlier that way. I think there would have been more skeletons showing signs of the disease if it was prevalent enough for an entire army to catch it though.
There is a series problem with the Sassanids late game. You're puppet states get a huge diplomatic penalty with you eventually because they feel oppressed. That can be up to a -150 penalty. So, some of your puppets states don't like you. Then, when one decides to revolt and declare war on you most of your other puppet states will join on their side. So you can be just playing then one turn later you can lose 10 puppet states. It's extremely annoying and makes reaching the victory conditions difficult
Heir, why don't you appoint your generals and governors as officers? Wouldn't that give them some bonuses? And why don't you appoint a successor prince as well?
"Onagers are bad". What the hell are you talking about HeirofCarthage . Employ 3 onagers in an army of 20 units they have a 99.99% winrate. Employ that to every army and have atleast 3-4 armies with atleast 3 onagers and you have conquered the whole world. They are incredibly strong, you just fire at targets who are moving fast towards you and dont even account to where they are gonna be. Its a fault on your end, the onagers just do what you tell them. Fire at positions where the cavalry will come, and you will see how many kills they get.
Just got TWatilla today and im looking for some useful tips. I was playing the prologue and ran the visigoths into the ground with lack of food and money. Any help?
The game has so much to offer. Politics, economy, military skills, battles, special units. U just have to learn one by one new features. I think it's good to learn who you can attack. If you have allies, don't attack their friends. And don't betray you allies (you get a bad reputation). Don't use flaming shots like Hair :D. Flaming shots are used for moral penalties. If you have more specific questions, it would be better than just asking for tips :) gl & hf with the game!
how is the corruption in your provinces? because the corruption level for almost every one of my provinces in my Eastern Roman empire campaign is above 70%; the spies help a little but i thought they would lower corruption over time which they dont do. it's seriously taking a toll on my treasury, do you know about anything that can lower the corruption levels?
Heir, i hope you see this but during real time battles what keys do i need to press to march my army but still in the formation i put them before the start of the battle? Like you did in previous battles
So , I was just wondering whats the thoughts on this game? Is it a buy, wait for a sale, or a pass? Is it worth the price or should I just wait for the first sale reduction in price?
I find the campaign very fun, still experimenting with multiplayer. Sassanids are the easier stable empire, then you can play tough campaigns that are migratory, and then tough campaigns as the Romans. Fun options I think.
"Fight for redemption": man, you have just given me my words for the month.
Nice big battle bringing your kills into the 5-digit range, Heir's Kill Total: 12,876
Thanks :)
Heir's Sassanid Steamroller rolls ever onwards!
Patchy will keep it rolling :)
Nice video. Good job Heir. Thanks for making such good TW content. It has helped me quite a bit in getting better and allowing me to win MP matches. (Credit to Maximus as well) It's also nice to watch someone who talks to the fans play a game some such as myself cannot run/afford. Keep it up Heir.
Glad it helps out, and I will keep it coming of course.
Great video Heir. I always enjoy watching you play any total war game.

The era between the Tigris and euphradesis called Mesopotamia.

Aila is modern day Eilat.
No friend it's Jerusalem- Al-Quds
Eilat is in the south
On the red sea
***** Hello. How jew doing. :P
***** It's sad to me that you live in Israel but don't know her history. Aelia Capitolina or "foreign capital" is Jerusalem. Check out my comment below for more info.
***** I hope that one day there will be a stable peace in Israel.
hi Heir, as the game progresses the fertility level decreases so if you are not crefull you may end up with severe food shortages(like what happened to me, i'm playing the sassanids too)level 4 camel ranches are the best as they give 130 food with some wealth in infertile regions which sassanids have lots of.
Yea I can switch over the wheat fields as the climate changes. The Camel farms are super handy.
@ 21:10 "Praise the gods! Your victory is moments away!" That's funny because Zoroastrianism is actually monotheistic. lol
Remember to subjugate factions, you need 3 to have your minor victory.
Heir with my Sassanid campaign Attila died before he became the horde leader. I hope that doesn't happen on yours would be nice to see you take down the scourge of God . I hope you have great triumph on your future campaigns through ancient Europe! Long live the peasant king!!!!

Heir, don't eat the Taco Bell horse meat!
Don't Forget to signed an heir because the Last one is dead
True, I need to do that.
Heir you should do an amphibious invasion of Antioch to snatch it before your ally takes it.
Don't know if I can, but that is an interesting idea. I like it.
Heir, the food from horse breeders isnt necessarily from eating horse meat. It could be from the horses ploughing more fields that allow more crops to be grown. I know this doesnt improve attila, but I think its just interesting. :)
Aelia Capitolina is Jeurusalem, it was renamed by Hadrian after the third Jewish revolt.
What does that black icon next to Osreone mean? (upper-right corner 6:50)
I think it means you can recruit an agent from that province.
I think your swordsmen have shield wall, which could have helped against the cav charges :D
Yea I probably forgot to use it
This was awesome but that last battle was quite a tease... damn, oh well, I can't wait for the next one :D
I don`t have Attila yet but it feels like I`m playing :D ty Heir .
Under 5 minute club. How tough are you?
Tough enough not to use tagmata cav on your ass.
Tough enough to open a ketchup bottle without any problems
mats daenen damm
Tough enough to play the western roman empire.
On Legendary. Totally.
I'm probably gonna buy this when I have the money. Does it perform (FPS wise) better than Rome 2? The battles ran perfectly fine at 40 FPS on my pc, but the campaign map would drop to like 10 FPS.
Attila is running at lower FPS for me on equivalent settings to Rome 2, so if you drop the settings a little it should stay at good FPS
the reason artillery seems weak is because kills due to fire don't show up on the kill count.
dammnit! i wasnt sure about this game so i spend my game budget on europa universalis IV a few days before launch.... anyway i guess i will have to warm up by playing barbarian invasion untill i get the game!
Hahaha
Eu4 is a good investment
Sjah Jahan oh i know!
They should make a total war game set in ww1 or 2 times it would just be great yah it wouldnt make historical sense but the short campaigns would
You should have kept your melee cav in the center to counter charge their pityful cav (turn off fire at will on the inf obviously), shock cav on the flanks to get the quickest hammer and anvil.
Heir?! What is your favorite food!
Obviously it's a fine Roman steak served medium rare. Or a *puts on glasses* Caesar Salad!!! *Yeeeeaaaaahhhh*
Jamie Wanless more like a carthage steak! :P or a hannibal salad :D
Pira I'm attempting to imply that the steak is made of Romans, but yeah, guess I didn't word that properly. For the record .. you have to build a production building for the resource or you get literally 0 value from t and it's just wasted resources.
What I found quite annoying playing as the sassanids is that a lot of court members have the same name. You have for example 3 Yazdegereds in your family and court.
Yea , it was the same way with Carthage in Rome 2
Heir, I always wonder why you use flaming shots. At least in Rome 2 and Shogun 2, flaming shots where used for moral penalty only, because it doesn't kill enemy units. Gobsmacked29 I heard that although flaming arrows base damage is increased, its ap damage is removed.
Watch Maximus' vid on this.
Flaming shot with archers is good against low armor units since it does remove the AP
What onagers dont get in kills on land battles they makeup in disruption. I like to focus fire on generals or tier 2 units to soften them up and heavily drop morale with that fire barrage, or use them to tilt the cav fight in your favour if you are slightly outmatched cav v cav units.

Anyone know how to get rid of disease out of an army? I have an army with syphilis and I don't know how to get rid of it?
Don't know, wasn't vacination invented 1800. :P I think there was some kind of time penalty, like 2-4 turns or something. I guess you just have to wait untill it's over. Or take it near the neighbor territories, maybe they can have it too :D
More importantly how the hell did your army catch a disease the conquistadors most likely introduced?
lol idk how its being spread through my army either when its only spread through sexual contact....
Kieran B I believe they found a skeleton recently in Europe of someone that had syphilis that predates the conquistadores.
unlucky1353 The more you know. My history lecturer recently mentioned that some of the most current research suggests the conquistadors may have contracted the disease from intercourse with animals, so it's possible it was transmitted earlier that way. The death count on the onager is bugged, at least for me, but depending on the enemy unit it can cause a lot of damage.
Aelia Capitolina is modern day Jerusalem. The Romans changed the name.
Thanks for the info :)
Cliffhanger

AEntrer Thanks, i'll do some research and hopefully not suck at this game.
AEntrer What applies to Rome 2 does not necessarily apply to Atilla. Flaming shot is very deadly in this game. Watch Maximus' vid on this.
Heir do ressources have any effect what so ever besides the buildings you can build with it?
The can earn you extra money in trade
Hey heir! I've been a bit behind in your vids, but i noticed that part 12 is missing in the playlist. Just fyi!
*insert obvious comment here*
heI, HEIR, wy iz it in onlee 306pp???//?
It's still rendering
Harrison Wedgeworth I know.

Have you ever try playing a grand strategy game from paradox heir?
Heir, i hope you see this but during real time battles what keys do i need to press to march my army but still in the formation i put them before the start of the battle? Like you did in previous battles
alt + klick and drag
Having three Provences starve is not good food level
The 2 rivers are in Iraq only not Iran !!!

What a sham. This is too easy, no challenge at all. Play on legendary difficulty
The Persian family members are adorned in traditional Arab attire and head wear I hate it...... not historical at all.
I know that Rome 2 was so buggy and shitty game, but what about Attila? Is a game better?
First!
