To Alaska from PA: A Mennonite family of 10-sleeping in a box trailer along the way!

- An acquaintance of mine, George Shirk, and his wife and eight children, traveled to Alaska to visit us (Matt Snader) in 2017. What is remarkable, is that they only ate canned food (with one or two exceptions) and slept in an enclosed box trailer! They made the trip for basically the price of fuel-but still had a good time! Watch as they visit various places in Alaska, including watching bears eat salmon in Hyder, Alaska. They also take a ride on a dog cart, go gold panning, and more. This is the ultimate in budget friendly traveling!
George also made a book out of his trip, which you can see here:

ps. here we still speak flat German locally, I can hardly follow the old German in your "Mennonite" language, but in writing no problem.
Loved every second of it, thank you so much. God bless you and your family
Thanks for the travel log on the trip to Alaska it's been very enjoyable
Excellent video, my wife and I have flown to Alaska twice, about five hours from Minnie to Anchorage. A few years back, eight Mennonite families moved into our farm area. Good people, very hard workers. Good neighbors and good friends.
Thanks, the people in this video are friends of mine, I posted it for them, but yes they are hard workers and great people to have around.
Beautiful 🎥!!!!!!! The bears not attacking amazed me!

This is the purities and Godliest family living I have ever seen. I loved to hear your wife laugh. The only thing didn't like was how they held the dogs so close to their throat's. God bless you and the family.

nice people.
36 days! well behaved children, you have. God bless you all.
those were not sheep
The older I get, the more I feel the pull of the simple life. I'd be quite content in a tiny home in the woods. The only luxury that would be essential for me would be an AC 😆
U even saw a killer whale ! Wow what s a blessing , u sure are highly favored !
I love modern anabaptists who do not shun rubber tires.
Man we live in 2023 you don’t have to sleep in some trailer and put your kids threw that
Oh, the kids thought it was a great time. Although I posted the video for a friend, but I approve of his travel methods.
One question...bathroom?
Weren't those deer and not sheep?
Can I join your family, I don't have one and I want to join a mennonite one. I was abandoned in Alaska by my family and I found your videos. I'm 34 and can work, I'm a strong guy. I was a DV victim, that's why I'm messed up.
Hi Chase, how are you doing now? Did you get some help? I will pray for you!
Greetings from the Netherlands.
So many questions. How can you drive a car? Why is everyone speaking English? Why in the world are you going to Alaska?!
Thank you for sharing you and your families road trip to Alaska. I bet the kids will never forget and will always have great and fond memories of it.
The trip was actually done by some friends of ours, and they wanted me to share it on the channel. They still have good memories from it and talk about it, even though that trip was five years ago already.
