I am afraid you have made a pretty stupid error on your map at 10-14 - the terminus station is Abbey Wood - Stepney Green is over the river on the District line.
This is what the rest of the UK needs. An underground railway system going direct to all of the major cities. Wheather for public use or freight would be for the operators to decide upon. But an underground system would alleviate the very congested roads. Freight trains underground could take many heavy goods vehicles from the motorways.
I like this video, but I must say that I find the animations a bit to much. If you could dial it back by like 10% it would be easier to follow. I found them distracting because of the amount of animations in such a quick succession.
It's not an underground line. It's heavy rail and more like an s bahn system. (The tube is completely different (those trains have generally short distances between stations. Where as the crossrail lines function more like main line railways (longer spaces between stations). There are lots of videos that explain the difference and explain why crossrail is not an underground line. I'd recommend watching Geoff marshal, jago hazard and rm transit, who all do good jobs explaining why cross rail is not part of the tune (on the same way that the paris rer is not part of the Paris metro. Other than that, this is a good video imo.
Well new metro lines in big cities like Paris and London are not really needed as in the same mid 20th century capacity. So much longer trains and much longer lines are now needed. The metro line 14 in Paris is an example of that, it is part of the metro network but so different with automization (such a big difference). I don't know much about S-bahn but I am not sure that in Germany extreme capacity is needed because they don't have mega dense cities like Paris or London. In Paris we will have to wait at least end of 2025 for a new line 15 that will be the first "suburb only" metro line. Before that the line 14 extention to Orly Airport is supposed to open in summer 2024. So let's say that in 2026 the Paris network will have changed as much as the London one has changed with the new Elizabeth line.
We have always had transport across London. The North London Line, Circle Line, Metropolitan, Hammersmith, Central .. This is just one more shortcut. We don't need it. What we need is a line from Inverness to Truro, then Dover, then Bangor.

In your maps of the route, why was Abbey Wood labelled at Stepney Green? Also your pronunciation of Pudding Mill Lane kinda triggered me after going thru there a lot. But as an explainer of the whole project, I liked it
All except for so many people working from home now, it might be a complete waste of money. Apparently half the people riding the Elizabeth Line, as it’s now called, are sightseers.
Oh cool it's like RER in Paris but 45 years later It's a very usefull system in Paris it was so efficient that we make 5 lines the last (RER E) is under construction to create a 2nd east-west line + small error Elizabeth line is not the larger infrastructure project in Europe It's Grand Paris Express with it's 45B € budget and 200km of new lines in 2030 (+5 years probably)
Fun fact: The Elizabeth Line is actually NOT a tube line, according to the crossrail staff it is more of a "railway service running in tube environment", which is the reason why the stations along the route are all included in the national rail services network, unlike usual tube stations!
They must have gotten that moniker "railway service running in tube environment" from the US Pentagon, where a shovel is a "portable land evacuator." ;-)
@@jandron94 That's actually a different story in the UK though. In the UK they got the franchising system which seperates maintenance and operation, in Lizzie Line's case, the operation is granted to MTR whilst the maintenance is still managed by Network Rail, subsidized by DfT. On the other hand the tube, track and operation are all managed by TfL, hence the tube stations that don't have a National rail services connection will not be counted into the network
This is an impressive project, but I just wished the government could let just a little of the billions spent go on transport services in our area. I live in the far north east, 5 miles from the nearest town and the last bus home on a Sunday is 6pm! So if you want to go to a restaurant and have a glass of wine or two you need to get a taxi. @@millhilljimjimmy6731 No, it isn't a tube line. Definitely not a Tube line.
I am afraid you have made a pretty stupid error on your map at 10-14 - the terminus station is Abbey Wood - Stepney Green is over the river on the District line.
love how abbey wood is labelled as stepney green at 3:05 😭 they could not be 2 more different places if you tried
A brilliant overview!
11:54 - Like the Waterloo & City line.
Nice video.
Nice video 👍 brother Iam from London
3:05 Ah Yes My Favourite South London Station. Stepney Green.
Also he said downtown London no one says that it should be central London
@@greek9244 It should be abbey wood
Just a small point to make, a bill has to be passed by parliament BEFORE it receives royal assent, not the other way around!
The way he said pudding lmao
Love the video! Is there a source for the plan to extend to Staines btw? :)
This is what the rest of the UK needs. An underground railway system going direct to all of the major cities. Wheather for public use or freight would be for the operators to decide upon. But an underground system would alleviate the very congested roads. Freight trains underground could take many heavy goods vehicles from the motorways.
Tunnelling is very expensive.
@@seansmith445 HS2 was very expensive, and nothing was constructed. Just consultation fees.
Brilliant video
Abbey Wood is in South East London not East London. East London is North of the river Thames where as Abbey Wood is South of the river Thames.
Come on, this guy is not a local! Give him a break. This is a damn good video.
2:31 wrong, this bit is not a tunnel it is out in the open
3:04 mistake, should be Abbey Wood, not Stepney Green
Shut up
I bet a dollar it doesn't even come close to Stanstead.
NEVER FLY INTO STANSTEAD. The airport is ok, but it is about an hours from London and nope no subway at least last i looked
So here i am !
can't wait crossrail 2 & 3
Bond Street EL station is not opened yet.
Meanwhile, outside the area of London... the rest of the UK has lost most of its rail network, thanks Mr Beeching under Thatcher's monthly book keeping short sightedness... And buses that take all day to get where you want to go... If they run at all.....
I took the Elizabeth line from Paddington to Heathrow in June
great video
Excellent video! I have only one amendment to make to the information which is that in June 2022 (slightly before or around the time of this video’s release), I was on an Elizabeth like train from Reading, so they are operating there already
Why is Abbey Wood Station called Stepney Green? Not even close
My mistake!
In your maps of the route, why was Abbey Wood labelled at Stepney Green? Also your pronunciation of Pudding Mill Lane kinda triggered me after going thru there a lot.
But as an explainer of the whole project, I liked it
As usual, travellers into Fenchurch Street station from the South of Essex remain without such a connection, particularly to Heathrow airport.
Excellent !!!
Abbey Wood is South London not East London
Abbey Wood is in south east London not east London
it's so crazy to think of how much history we're sitting on, it's great the excavation brought some British artifacts to the people.
All except for so many people working from home now, it might be a complete waste of money.
Apparently half the people riding the Elizabeth Line, as it’s now called, are sightseers.
Impressive job.
Oh cool it's like RER in Paris but 45 years later It's a very usefull system in Paris it was so efficient that we make 5 lines
the last (RER E) is under construction to create a 2nd east-west line
+ small error Elizabeth line is not the larger infrastructure project in Europe
It's Grand Paris Express with it's 45B € budget and 200km of new lines in 2030 (+5 years probably)
@3:04 “Stepney Green”??? …should read Abbey Wood (but we know what you mean)
Fun fact: The Elizabeth Line is actually NOT a tube line, according to the crossrail staff it is more of a "railway service running in tube environment", which is the reason why the stations along the route are all included in the national rail services network, unlike usual tube stations!
The UK is not that big so indeed they can easily integrate that line on a not too small national rail network map.
They must have gotten that moniker "railway service running in tube environment" from the US Pentagon, where a shovel is a "portable land evacuator." ;-)
@@johnchastain7890 Hence it's over budgeted ;)
@@jandron94 That's actually a different story in the UK though. In the UK they got the franchising system which seperates maintenance and operation, in Lizzie Line's case, the operation is granted to MTR whilst the maintenance is still managed by Network Rail, subsidized by DfT. On the other hand the tube, track and operation are all managed by TfL, hence the tube stations that don't have a National rail services connection will not be counted into the network
@@JeffreyLincrunchie If we'd cancel a Batplane or two, we could afford modern trains from DC to NYC and Boston. But NOOOOoooo....
But the bus companies here are an absolute rip off. 2 of us can travel by taxi for the same price as a bus unless you have an annual pass, which we don't need!
Cost of transportation via train from Stansted to Liverpool St is almost £20. I can't imagine how much this will be.
It’s the same as any tube cost. Relatively cheap
Very informative commentary, but I found the graphics exhausting to watch, with edits every few seconds.
Never heard of limmo peninsula, there is The Limehouse peninsula.
