This aria is incredibly beautiful;Roberto Alagna’s recording of it is both powerful and moving. As usual, he invests his singing with an exquisite sensibility to the text and to the emotions felt by the character portrayed. After hearing it on his French arias CD (a terrific disc, start to finish) I began to wonder if he’d some day sing the role. Now I’ll hope he’ll take it to the Met,and for the eventual release of a subtitled all-region DVD of the current production.Thank you for posting!
WE ALL THE POOR, SIMPLE AND HUMBLE HUMAN BEINGS LOVE YOU, ROBERTO, BECAUSE YOU ARE A SIGN OF THE MISTERY OF ART...YOU MOVE OUR SOULS AND BONES,.YOU MAKE OUR HEARTS BEAT WITH STRENGH AND PASION. THANK YOU FOR ALL THE BEAUTY, DEAR ROBERTINO!!!!
@ikey14 My sentiments exactly... 1st performance in Marseilles is June 17th - look around the net, there will be a TV broadcast, I think - maybe we will be able to access it!
@MrAndredekock - Ah... but has Villazon ever sung "Le Cid"? I doubt that anyone could top Roberto's singing in this opera - he went from strength to strength and tore up the stage - a performance absolutely sublime!!
A couple of years ago, I disliked Alagna's singing and his stage mannerisms. However, the more I've listened to him, the more I feel compelled to say he is currently the best tenor in French repertoire. Only in French repertoire though.
This was beautifully sung, although his forte top note at the end of the first stanza was a bit rough. However, although I don't usually compare singers, I have to say that Villazon manages a much more poignant and beautiful rendition on his French Arias CD. But bravo Alagna.
Toujours cette voix superbe, émouvante dans cette aria.

Très bel air, d'une gravité sobre et vraie, comme il y en a peu dans l'opéra.
On Mezzo, tonight, I heard and saw Roberto Alagna in Le Cid. Deeply moved by his song and by his performance!
