TransLink Canada Line - Waterfront to Richmond-Brighouse (2021)

  • This is a ride on board the Canada Line, one of TransLink's rapid transit 'skytrain' routes. Although this line is operationally separate from the other two lines. The Canada Line opened in 2009 linking Downtown Vancouver with YVR Airport and Richmond in just 30 minutes. The line is operated with thirty-two LRV units built by Hyundai-Rotem with a maximum frequency of every three minutes (one train every six minutes to YVR Airport and one train every six minutes to Richmond).
    Our train is the newest unit, numbered 32 (cars 132 and 232), built in 2019.
    Previously the rapid transit between Richmond and Downtown Vancouver was provided by the 98 B-Line bus, running along Seymour and Howe Streets in Downtown Vancouver, and along Granville Street and over the Arthur Laing and Moray Bridges via Airport Station.

    That system is showing its age. You can see where groundwater is sleeping in through the joints in the tunnel sections and the puddles on the tunnel floor. Hope there is a pump to get rid of that water.

      It’s thanks to good old Gordon Campbell noodle soup, Christy crispy crunch and their coalition with Gregor Robertson to use a P3 SNC Lavalin & Hyundai the cheapest contractor opposing Translink’s initial choice which was Bombardier who had a higher cost but better quality and longer

    Looks like the newer trains have the black frame on the windows 🤔 idk if there’s anything else that differs b/w the new & old trains

      The old trains had the black paint on the windows when they were brand new in 2009, it faded within a couple of years.
      The new units are virtually identical to the 2008 ones, but with a slightly improved A/C system and different LED displays.

      Three lines - The Expo line opened in 1985 - The Millennium Line opened in 2002, and the Canada Line (operationally separate from the other two) opened in 2009.

      The old cars are 101-120/201-220. The new ones 121-132/221-232.

      001-100 don't exist for Canada Line cars. 101 is the start, first car of unit 01, coupled to 201, second car of the first unit.
      As for differences, there are very few.
