Love this hoody. I hiked Herman Gulch the other day when it was 15 degrees and the R1 plus a base layer was all I needed to be warm but not overheat. It's nice and cozy to wear around town and doesn't look like a super technical piece. I've gotten a lot of compliments.
Good review! I like how you're showing the jacket throughout the video, instead of just sitting down. Including some close-ups would make it an even more interesting watch, I think. I have an Nano-Air Hoody, how does the R1 Air compare to this? Less warm and windresistant but more breathable? More durable?
Glad it was helpful! The R1 Air is definitely less warm and more breathable than the Nano Air. The Nano Air has synthetic insulation, while the R1 Air is a fleece. Two very different garments.

What is the major differences between this and the regular r1 pullover hoody? Clearly the zipper, but is there a major difference to breathability or durability? How does the snugness of the hood compare? The images on the website my the regular r1 hood look very tight, but the r1 air doesn't look that tight in your video. Which one do you prefer for different activities like bouldering, skiing, sitting at home, etc?
I'm going to have a detailed comparison up soon, but the air is quite a bit more breathable, seems to be similar in fit, perhaps a bit looser. I'll be able to tell you exactly in the comparison wearing them back to back. The air is great for higher output activities, as the breathability is a factor there. I'm a pretty big fan of the regular R1. I use the air at home the most, and opt for the regular when outdoors more often. The crewneck is a tighter fit I have found, and I like that it doesn't have the zipper to get in the way. Overall, I'm not going get rid of my regular R1 any time soon.
@@almostadventurous no , the biggest difference is the weight, patagonia specifically branched from the regular R1 to the air to compete with other ultralight mid layers for backpacking and rock climbing folks

You may be (way) too young and missed the spruce/teal and plum colour craze in the early 90s outerwear. But I too saw the Patagonia new dark plum teal Retro Pile and bought one. Love the colour. Bought a Micro puff in it too. 🤘🏻. This is next on my list but the current colours blow.
Depends on what you are using it for. It is a fairly slim piece so if you like it to be slim and want it to fit under other clothing then I would say order your regular size. If you want it looser then get a size up.
We'll see! I have read about some pilling from others who have an R1 Air. My R1 pullovers pill a very small amount, really depends on how you use it I'd guess. I'll post a few updates as I use it more.
I’ve had my olive green crew neck since the first batch years ago, it’s still very wearable in good company. I wash it very regularly & only hit it w a pill shaver occasionally, def not as much as a better sweater. I feared black would be too linty but I’ve had the black hoodie for at least two years of very regular use & the $10 shaver from Walmart brings it back. No regrets 👌🏽
I’ll make a comprehensive video comparing the two soon, but for now the high level differences are R1 is a grid fleece, R1 Air has that zig zag pattern, R1 Air is more breathable, R1 is warmer.

Right on! I love Herman Gulch. Did you have to use snowshoes or is the trail packed enough by now?
@@almostadventurous just needed spikes. It was super icy in spots. Snow doesn't get deep until you're near the lake
