      Thank you so much! Even though I did enjoy my experience teaching, it's indeed been a very fulfilling switch into a new career and I hope it has been for you as well 😊

    What subject did you teach in public school in Singapore and is it primary or secondary school?

      @ do you have information on Special Education Needs with MOE? The website detail is not in depth

      Sorry not really. But I know there are either allied educators (www.moe.gov.sg/careers/non-teaching-careers/allied-educators) or SPED teachers (www.moe.gov.sg/careers/become-teachers/sped-teacher) with MOE

    I'm an engineering student from India. I really want to become a teacher in Singapore. I'm a fresher with no prior experience but i am sure about my capability.Can you please suggest me skills and courses that will increase the possibility to get selected as a MoE teacher in Singapore?

      Thanks for watching! Sorry I can’t really advise because I’m not part of MOE and I can’t tell you their selection criteria for sure. But you can check out the MOE website for more details about the qualifications they’re looking for if that helps :)

    Would love to hear how you made the transition to become a software engineer. Did you have to do a bootcamp?

    what are some reasons you'd encourage or discourage someone from from going into teaching? how is work life balance as a teacher?

    • @thecorporateswitch
      @thecorporateswitch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some reasons I'd encourage:
      -you enjoy bonding with students and see value in helping them develop their character and values
      -fixed holidays off ( teachers who are parents might like this a lot since you will be on holidays together)
      -helpful colleagues who're generally willing to teach and help you
      -you enjoy trying different things apart from being a teacher
      Discourage:
      -super slow to change industry... If you want to effect real change, it's quite difficult and many layers of bureaucracy
      -have to handle doing a lot of other things apart from just teaching (organising events/doing admin/handling HR/PR etc)
      - a lot of theory taught as professional development but doesn't really translate well in reality in teaching in the real classroom
      - teaching in public school is meant to teach the curriculum to all students as a baseline but teachers are expected to cater to a wide range of abilities (35-40 students in a class) which is hard because of the lack of time to do proper lesson planning due to other responsibilities/work...
      Work-life balance:
      Depends on how much effort you want to input into your lessons and which subject combination. I'll say that it's definitely way more physically exhausting than other jobs because you're dealing with people and emotions for the entire day.. So even if the work hours seem short, it's equally/more tiring. Fixed holidays are nice (but take note there's meetings etc) but yea I've teacher colleagues who have to stay late marking every night but there's teachers who also manage to have their weekday nights free if they plan their day properly... Really depends on your definition of work life balance as well.
      Above are just some of my thoughts from my experience, hope this helps! 😊

    Hello! Thank you for sharing. May I ask if teachers get to choose what subjects they want to teach? What happens if you do not meet the prerequisites for that subject (I want to teach Math but I did not meet the criteria for NIE)

    • @thecorporateswitch
      @thecorporateswitch  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, thanks for watching the vid ☺️ you can put in your preference for what subjects + what level you want to teach when applying for the PGDE programme BUT it's ultimately up to MOE to decide which track (pri/sec/JC) they want to put you in and which subjects they need teachers for. So for example I had a friend apply for art (based on her interest) but she got EL and science instead (prob based on her educational qualifications) . Hope that clarifies!

      @@thecorporateswitch Thank you for the fast reply!! Was very worried earlier but now at least I have a clearer view to prevent disappointments!
      I just have another question: As I am attending to apply for the Bachelor of Arts/Sciences at NIE/MOE, is it also a requirement/better for me to go for the PGDE programme after I have finished the Bachelor Degree programme or can I straight away start teaching after I got my Bachelors? Thank you!

    • @thecorporateswitch
      @thecorporateswitch  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@geedevil24680 good question but unfortunately, I can't advise wrt this as I don't want to give the wrong info, because I applied for the PGDE directly (after I got a bachelors in a major unrelated to education). Think you may have to refer to the NIE website for more info wrt this qn! www.moe.gov.sg/careers/become-teachers/pri-sec-jc-ci/a-level-diploma-ib#A-level
