    Yeah alot of jobs are low paid even accountants etc. I 15yrs, not yet 4k. That is why ppl change career as it is not making enough money to meet ends.

    My career switch was in the reverse. I was at the peak of my sales career in an MNC company, earning very good income higher than my peers. Then after 7 years, I decided to leave for early childhood education career, earning only 10% of my previous pay and forging all the perks I had. Everybody thought I was mad, but I did not regret my career switch. I worked full time as a kindergarten teacher, while taking part time early childhood courses, and at the same time worked as a part time insurance agent to support my family. Thank God I was able to juggle all the 3 tasks well and still have time for my family. So I can only say that it all depends on what each person wants in life and their career, and also how they plan to move up the career ladder of their chosen industry. Nothing comes without effort and passion. Of course, the salary for early childhood educators could have been higher to attract more passionate and qualified teachers. (Note: during my era, my pay as a kindergarten teacher was than $1k.)

    I don't understand why healthcare and teaching, 2 of the most important jobs in Singapore pays so low. My wife is a therapist aide with 6 years experience dealing with elderly care and she only gets job offers at $1800p.m. Ridiculous!

    • @thecorporateswitch

      Not only is the pay low, the education entry requirements are set high for early childhood educators by ECDA, which makes it harder for people to join the industry.

    Thank you for sharing! I am considering on going into the teaching field and am looking at people's experiences to try and get a feel of it. If you don't mind sharing, what was the main reason (or top few reasons if you can't pinpoint one,) that made you decide to leave the teaching field? Was it a pull factor towards tech, or a push factor away from teaching?

    • @thecorporateswitch
      @thecorporateswitch 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi, thanks for watching! Imo, I think 2 main reasons: 1) I remember one day arguing intensely amongst the teachers over whether we should award one mark to a kid in a worksheet (because it didnt really follow the ‘right’ answer) and I rmbr just thinking.. what is the point of doing so? Why are we arguing over one mark that will literally have no impact on the child in the long run. Are we still that obsessed over marks/following rubrics despite everything we try to do to build creativity and new life skills etc. & then it also cumulated to feel like nothing much has really changed in our syllabus. 2) The amount of physical and mental energy I was putting in and the increasing amount of hats that teachers have to wear… it was really exhausting. If I could solely focus on teaching, that’d perhaps be fine but in reality, I was operating as an entire organisation (e.g teachers have to teach AND plan school events for teachers and students, or be in charge of creating social media content for the school etc) I really didn’t understand why teachers have to do all this when even in a company, you have different people doing all these tasks. Realistically, I also felt like I was getting one pay despite for all these different jobs (scopes) I think the above was a push away from teaching The pull towards tech was more that I did feel that ultimately, the red tape and job requirements itself is very routine, and my personality requires a job that had more freedom!

    • @thecorporateswitch
      @thecorporateswitch 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      But of course, your experience/others might differ based on what you value in life. I think if you can, the best way might be to actually take up relief/contract teaching for a short while if you can !

    (Part 2). A school organisation is of follows, School leaders=1 P, 2-3 VPs, Education officers (EOs) ie teachers = HODs, Subject Heads, Teachers, Allied Educators & Education support = counsellors, Special needs, Career counsellors. I thought being hired by a girls school will mean more behaved students. Oh boy was I so mistaken LOL!!!. Lastly the Executive and Administration Staff dept = General office, operations, IT, lab support. Everyone has a Reporting officer. As such my IT dept and the two computing teachers RO's is the HOD ICT. Tips to survive school environment: Officially my break time is 30 minutes. However I have the luxury of having a flexible break time to avoid the student's recess/lunch time. As mentioned by Krystal in another video that bio break can be a luxury and even less a proper sitdown lunch break. This is even more noticeable if you are like myself being posted in an opposite single gender school where there are limited male toilets (only staff toilets available) since there is zero male students ie zero toilets near the student blocks. Also I cant stress enough the importance of the quality of the canteen in school. My school is located in a location where the public food choices within reach is MEH but the canteen has multiple stalls that caters for my restricted dietary needs. (no prices for guessing which restriction that is lol). So for the most part the only food you have within reach are from the canteen. The advantage of SS&JC that comes with the usually longer working school operation hours is that the canteen is already operational before school starts (breakfast) and still have food for the graduating cohort who will have their second recess/lunch (12.50pm for mine) since they are staying back longer for extra lessons. Also the portion is more 'adult friendly' since it is catered for teenagers. It may seem trivial but environment has a big influence on your motivation&psyche at work. (just look at Google HQ and their free lunch bar).

      For some reason, I don’t see the part 1 comment 😕 but what you said is so true, food is so important; definitely need it to fuel the day! & I rmbr finding canteen vendors who wanted to operate in the schools was such a struggle as well, leading to even less food choices 😞 glad you have multiple stalls at least for your dietary needs; but hopefully they’ll build more staff toilets for your next school upgrading 🤪
