But they never wore like halter tops or took off their shirts or sagged their pants. Even in regular clothes they were all still clean cut. Jodeci literally dressed like they had just walked from a corner store or community basketball court with prison looking tats all over their arms and chests when they first came out, that’s what caught everyone’s attention, while they were singing ballads, they didn’t look like ballad singers or even rappers. And they cursed a lot and said provocative things you just didn’t hear rnb singers say. Gotta love was their first song and when Devante rapped “I gotta give a Fck about sex, drop your panties and I want to hit it raw” it was like what did he just say lol. Rnb groups didn’t blatantly say things like that in their songs, not even bbd or bobby. And soooo many singers and rappers copied some of their style even pac got a nose ring and thug life tatted across his stomach and started rapping about sex explicitly. He didn’t look like that in the beginning or rapped like that. That is why people say they changed the image of rappers and singers, and rnb/hip hop. It’s hard to see now because everyone has tats/piercings and dresses like whatever they want but jodeci def started the street style and really explicit songs (for singers). Now boys ii men came out at the same time as jodeci. Jodeci didn’t end anything . They still wore/wear very clean cut polo looking clothes lol. They were both the top rnb male groups at the time, other male groups either copied jodeci (mostly) or boys ii men (it was so obvious too). But there's no real deep seated reason behind it other than showing off if you have a good body!
